Maybe he is playing far from the basket because of how fragile his frame is at the moment. There are still a couple of bruisers that live in the paint -- like Nurkić, Zubac, Valančiūnas, or Jokić himself, just to name a few -- and Victor is trying to put up some weight (at least as much as his genetics allow), so perhaps developing his outside game first is actually a smart move.

As a spurs fan I remember watching highlights of this tall French kid who was projected to be the number one pick in 2023 … never thought in a million years we’d get him …. Wemby was advertised as a big who could do it all but who had handles as well (and he does to an extent) but his passing/ court vision was way underrated and virtually unadvertised coming into the league … it blew me away from day one of him putting on the silver and black … we blessed to have this guy GsG / WembVP!

@michaelahurt5 күн бұрын
Idk how new this is. All the basketball nerds were talking about his playmaking last year. Hell even pre-draft It's probably the biggest reason all the smart people were so bullish on him. He can do the same stuff Jokic does as far as finding cutters and combines that without outstanding touch inside 10 feet just like Jokic. Except he also has AD's lob finishing, Giannis' finishing, Steph's range and a dash of KD while also being a 6" taller Russell/Olajuwon hybrid on defense The only things that can hold him back from being the best player of all time are injury and coaching/shot selection
@Kentarius3 күн бұрын
He does not have Gianni’s finishing or Steph’s shooting
@michaelahurt3 күн бұрын
@Kentarius I said range not shooting. He shoots 80% at the rim. The guys who do that without being spoonfed are Giannis, LeBron, Luka, peak Embiid -- it's not a long list. What he doesn't have is Giannis' volume. But when Wemby fills out ... Like Giannis no one can actually keep him away from the rim when he's coming downhill without fouling him. He's too long. And he has better touch than Giannis

Because they thought it would stop him. Cause noone knew his Skyhook back then. There were rarely any videos of his Highschool play to start. When Jordan did start working on his three in the late 80's and early 90's, he dramatically improved, even going 6 of 6 in a Finals game. But he then publicly claimed that he would no longer practice the shot and stopped taking as many. So, yeah, he could've been a high level shooter from distance, if it mattered to winning back then. Perhaps if the rules and schemes were like they are now, he would've kept practincing that shot.

ngl, based on wemby’s build and skill. i’d rather have him play midrange and 3’s, limited in paint scoring.. defenders will go after his knees and ankles.. i’d rather add another off ball dominant, hustle type, team oriented player to play as centre to grab rebounds.. so wemby can play pf/sf.

MJ, hakeem and kobe took ill advised tough shots in the regular season. The result? While most player's efficiency drop significantly from season to playoffs. Those 3 actually remains the same or better. And in clutch situations those same fadeaways in the regular season might be slightly lower efficiency than layups. But, those fadeaways aren't bothered by defenses no matter how great the defenses. While layups are easily stopped by great defenses. This is why. The true great scorers have a signature shot they can always go to in drought and ckutch situations that's why they are truly unstoppable. Wemby needs either a skyhook or a dirk leg which is the best signature shot for his frame. A shot that no matter who can bother. While that fadeaway is good and all. The problem is he needs a rhythm dribble to shoot it. Dribbling allows defenders to affect it.

The new CBA makes building a dynasty extremely difficult. Victor is going to be at a huge disadvantaged compared to great players from the past. Any great team that gets assembled around him is going to become too expensive to maintain. Just look at how Denver keeps losing key role players because of the CBA. Boston will absolutely have to break up soon.
