Showed this to a friend who said "that's paranoia. Nobody is out to get you." I no longer associate with that person.

It is unfortunate that your "friend" has very little understanding of the world. He/she's apparently been very lucky to have live a sheltered life and has never learned otherwise.

I mean...I wouldn't write that person off, unless you're actually paranoid. I deal with paranoid schizophrenia on a daily basis. It's hard to differentiate sometimes but was that worth a friend?

@@wchamp170 It's like people think "Oh if something bad is going to happen, it will announce itself first!" which obviously is usually never the case. It's that split second, or the one step that could be the difference between life, death, or being wounded. I personally was about 2ft from being ran over by some dumbass on her phone while I was biking a month ago. She hauled ass past a red light because she was on her phone, going about 40Mph, and I caught her out of the corner of my eye just in time to lock my breaks up. A second later and I probably wound have gotten fucked up, without a doubt.

I’ve practiced situational awareness for a very long time. It’s led into mindfulness which keeps me close to a flow state by being completely present in the moment. There is no paranoid energy in me by doing this. It’s a natural observance of myself and my surroundings.

Observation and Orientation are the heart and soul of the OODA loop. Sadly, in the firearms/self defense industry today, they are usually the most neglected. Thank you for your channel and sharing hard earned truths with us.

Legion Training, the department that I work for does a lot of training around our individual OODA loop and a threat or threats. I had never even heard of the OODA loop before until I began working for my department. Now that I understand it and train with the deliberate action of disrupting a threat or threats OODA loop and not mine, I am very grateful for the training received and knowledge passed on. Learning about that was a game changer for me and really took my level of understanding and preparing for facing a threat and then defeating a threat, to the next level.

Great stuff Mike, I am constantly talking to my wife and two daughters 18 and 16 to practice situational awareness at all times, it took them the longest time to understand why I wouldn't set somewhere with my back to the entrance and why I always am checking to see where the quickest exit is or why I am always scanning and watching people even when I am involved with people. They are learning and someday I pray to God they don't have to find out why I constantly am being the situational aware guy but I tell them someday you will thank me for the lessons I have been drumming into your minds since you were old enough to understand and now my wife does what I do because that is all she has ever seen from me in the 20 years we have been together.

Thanks for the info Mike and the great service you do brother. Coming from the streets my situational awareness is up to speed. I've battled with people saying that I'm paranoid and I know that I'm not ive just been more aware of my surroundings then most people and I take it seriously. I'm glad you are speaking on this subject. Not sure if you or any of your members believe in God but Noah from the Bible was the original prepper and look at that gangster he and his family lived and they thought he was crazy for building a boat on land. People mocked him. All that mocked him died in the flood and were not prepared. Only the strong will survive. 😊👍

I'm not military either although pretty much all of my friends and family are combat vets. I got diagnosed with PTSD after I was jumped by about 5 vatos locos because I thought I was invincible as a teen. Ever since then I don't like feeling cornered. so between that and being shot at a couple of times because I was an idiot I racked up enough experiences to make me pretty paranoid I guess. So I understand where you're coming from

I love this video very interesting. 12 years in military experience. And before that out door mountain climbing and civilian search and rescue. I use situational awareness all the time now . I break it down 3 ways. 1. Cyberspace or social media, looking at what is going on in the world. 2. Urban , looking at my home and traveling to work. 3. Looking at when im out recreational and again work because it is 90% outdoor related . Cool video love to hear someone with a plethora of training and Wisdom share.

Found you via Shawn Ryan. Awesome video, presented by an instructor who not only has the education and experience but presents it in a way that keeps your attention. This is not “paranoia”. If you think so, you’re one of the sheep. Anyone who has served in the military or served their community through law enforcement understands this video.

good topic. When I was a rookie cop in the 80s I was assigned to a salty old guy...a nam vet for training. He would constantly ask me questions like "which way is North", "how many people were in that building we just left? # of men/women/white/black...what were they wearing? who were most likely threats? where were the exits? What floor/apartment are you in? Where was cover if something jumped off?" I began to go into every situation in observation mode, taking in as much info as I could because I knew I'd be quizzed on it after. That exercise became a permanent practice and remains with me today. The guy also taught me to apply these disciplines while driving/walking/sitting in a public place...on/off duty...even at home. ID cars and people in your field of view who could potentially do something stupid...formulate a plan of action if this or that happens so we immediately take action vs trying to figure it out once the crisis in in play. He also taught me the importance of knowing your equipment and keeping it in good condition. He would inspect not only his guns, ammo, gear but mine too because he made me understand it may come down to our gear that decides whether or not we both go home. "Presence of mind is how you survive"...those were his words and how right they are.

I took your advice! I put tourniquets in all of my cars and I’m now planning on making special medical kits for each. Wound pack kits, regular band aids, hydrogen peroxide, etc. I also want to put these window breaker/seatbelt cutter things from Amazon rubber banded to the headerst. Other than that, I also make sure to have a tool kit, a car battery charger, a 22 survival rifle and some long lasting foods like chewy bars, chips, jerky, water, etc. it’s good to have these things for regular day to day stuff. I found that when I have other people in my car, they come in very handy. Maybe they need a bandaid, or they’re a bit hungry since were somewhere in the middle of nowhere. You never know what might happen. Thanks for the informational content! It’s been making me more confident in my abilities in different situations.

When I drive now, especially alone, I do not turn on the radio or listen to an audio book. I could not agree more, awareness is the skill of those who survive. Observation is very important. I would add, keeping up with what is going on out of sight, as well (stuff like gang activity), recognition of some of the other info is very helpful, especially if you are in motion or could be in a hurry.
