Mike Smedley my cousin years ago caught a 64 and 62 pound fish of beach and told nobody. The next year guys from New Jersey came and fished them hard for selling the meat. But it’s been years and the fish are back. U know those big colorful live in the ocean fish that get huge

Peter Hayes you said a mouthful! I really look forward to the days when my boys realize what they have done. They were only 11 and 13 at the time and in college now. It will probably hit them for real when they take their kids fishing. Still, to this day the only 50 lb class Fish I ever kept personally! They are skin mounted at my father’s house. He took me fishing hardcore as a kid. Sleeping on the banks in the rain, fished out of a 12’ plastic Sears row boat until we got a giant 16’ aluminum boat. I worked the Bait shops full time at age 14 every summer 7 days a week and fished most nights. Started guiding at 16 and my Mother would tow the boat 45 minutes to the lake at 4am. I would slide over to launch, she’d come back at 9pm to grab me from the Bait shop. I’m the oldest of 5 kids she had to take care of on her own. My Mom was and is a BAD ASS! My HERO to this day. Sorry for the long comment. I have a feeling you know what I’m talking about.

It was pretty rough earlier in the AM, and they were both a little sea sick on top of having very little sleep. We also kept the reels at around 7lbs of drag. That is alot for anyone for a 15+ minute fight, especially back to back to back. Some people think that isnt much, but try tying your rod tip to a 7lb weight and hold it off the ground for 15 minutes. Might have to get a harness for next year!

Gabe. We leave the clickers on in every video so the viewer can tell when the fish takes line, it also prevents backlashes with less experienced anglers and tells the captain exactly how the angler is fighting the fish.

At this time IGFA SMALL FRY AND JUNIOR WORLD RECORDS were within 2 pounds for each, in fact, if they had swapped catches it would have been an official Small Fry World Record for the 57 lb fish.

Alot depends on where and how you are fishing, when drifting we stick with live bait like eels or bunker, (menhaden) in salt, shad herring in fresh. When chuncking on anchor, we use cut baits, bunker, clams and some live bait on the bottom.

Depends where you fish. I caught some big ones from lake pyramid , silverwood, Los Banos and baker Beach under golden gate Bridge years ago . And the cal aqueduct in antelope valley

Nice fish. Accurate reels are the best reels you can get for fishing big fish. Here on the west coast, we use them for big tuna, marlin & mako sharks. Smooth casting, killer drag system, & I've never seen one seize up while on a big fish (300 lb plus). Nice video, but please turn the clickers off while fighting the fish (annoying sound). The clicker is nice while trolling or still fishing with rod in holder to let you know your bit. Thanks for sharing the video.

Thanks so much brother!! I really appreciate that! We got so lucky on this day, we squeezed in a few hours between small craft advisories and caught lightning! Both my boys were tired from driving thru the night and were a little queasy from the early swells rolling into the bay. Just as the water laid down the fishing exploded! That double hookup came on lines that were 300 feet apart! Can you imagine the size of that school? A school of 50# plus fish. Their Grandfather had those fish mounted and sees them every day. One day my boys will truly appreciate how special that day was. My buddy Dewayne really gets all the credit, he stayed on those fish all week. Thanks again brother!!
