The clock keeps ticking away. And every minute we see leaps forward on DTD. Our hopes and dreams lay on those who endeavor to bring her back to the air on June 6th. We watch, we donate and we pray that the ground crew has success. 75 years ago she had one mission and that was to help to save the world and now it is the mission of people around the world to save her. Thank you, Mikey, for letting us be even a small part of bringing her back.

Retired 21 years ago, as a BAC Avionics Support Engineer; seeing the "Clipper", viewing the sweat/toil, and 'soaking in' every bit of the camaraderie I see in your support crew's interactions, makes me (sadly) realize how much I miss (my encountering) those same interactions, with so many different techs/engineers/support staff/flight crews, all those years ago. To have been a part of something so great - then, and to watch your friends/staff/crew "bust their asses" now, to get C-FDTD back into the air, well, at the very least, your story is the thing which great movies are made from! This deserves to be a documentary!

I loved the look on his face when he saws DTD and it registered on his mind that it was that poor old airplane with no hope out on the back side of the tarmac. This plane had no hope until the McBryan family came to its rescue. You have every right to be proud of DTD. The Pan Am plane was awesome also.

Another great episode with two great aircraft. One of the most impressive members of your team has to be Laurie. I've noticed how often when something is going on which requires serious attention such as an engine start, she's there at the centre of the activity and quietly doing her part in getting the task done.
@angelreading50985 жыл бұрын
What a lovely surprise and how kind of them to call in and show us their magnificent Pan American DC-3,the attention to detail is outstanding and the paintwork is a work of art in itself,we wish the crew a happy and safe voyage to Normandy. Meanwhile DTD looks better every time we see her,the crew have worked wonders to achieve what they have done and the whole restoration to flight is a credit to all concerned. Never seen an aircraft handler so skilled with the tug like that ! lovely episode Mikey onward and upward you are doing really well.
@jenniferprice63795 жыл бұрын
The Clipper is a beautiful airplane. But you know, DTD has more meaning to me. You can feel it's spirit coming back to life every day. Watching the crew doing the almost impossible. DTD is a D-Day survivor that has managed to avoid the scrapper for all these years. If DTD could actually talk to the Clipper, you would probably hear it say, "Watch this kid, I ain't done yet!".

Jay’s terrier dog approach to leadership responsibilities of getting DTD back in the air earned him a lot of respect. We were just a “we bit” concerned when Jay was called away, but the new guy is awesome as well. Different approach and style but obviously knows where north is, we are on track with the bonus of Stella and her super clean up paint job, and that treasure wiring schematic.

My dad worked on DC3s for PAA in the forties. In the late 50s and early 60s I worked line crew for a company on Allegheny County Airport in Pgh, PA that flew 2 DC3s for a famous pickle company. When cleaning one of them I checked out a maintenance log book and found out my dad had signed off some metal work on that ship when it flew for PAA. I was qualified to start and taxi them on the ramp. Your bringing back happy memories. Good luck to you guys.

For years I drove a limited Midget open wheel racer. We had a race in B.C. at Agassiz, near Harrison Hot Springs. I had just cleared Customs at Abbotsford and was heading towards the Trans Canada, when I heard a terrifying noise like a huge bucket of bolts had dropped on the cab of my Ford Ranger. Instantly, I thought the Race Car Trailer must be disintegrating when I noticed a B25, out the left window, that had just passed over me on final into the East/West Abbotsford runway. I'm guessing the B25 was about 50 feet over the truck and trailer, maybe they were trying to get a good look at the Race Car. I was so freaked out, I pulled off the road, yes, the trailer was fine. You're "rocks in a clothes dryer" description is perfect, if you can go stand under a radial engine d twin on final, then you'll understand.

Just a word of warning, when you're hooking up a towbar to a tow vehicle, NEVER STRADDLE THE TOWBAR. If the tow vehicle pulls forward too far or too fast, that towbar can jump up in the air, with predictably painful results. Stand to one side. Fred. ;) (yea, I see that that tow vehicle has a top and bottom plate that the tow bar end fits between, but it's still asking for trouble).
