MILCK - Quiet
For us who come from privilege, speaking up can be scary. For others of us in other parts of the world, though, speaking up can even be life threatening. I can only speak from my own story of surviving anorexia and abuse. I believe that when one person speaks out, that empowerment ricochets in ways and to places we don't realize. I am not truly free until all of us are free.
This song is for all of those who cant keep quiet. I hope you enjoy, and feel empowered or comforted after watching. Much love to you.

Lyrics
“Quiet”
Written by MILCK and AG
Produced by AG
put on your face
know your place
shut up and smile
don’t spread your legs
I could do that
But no one knows me no one ever will
if I don’t say something, if I just lie still
Would I be that monster, scare them all away
If I let the-em hear what I have to say
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
A one woman riot, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet
For anyone
Anymore
Cuz no one knows me no one ever will
if I don’t say something, take that dry blue pill
they may see that monster, they may run away
But I have to do this, do it anyway
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
A one woman riot, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh I can’t keep quiet
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
There’ll be someone who understands
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
Must be someone who’ll understand
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
There’ll be someone who understands
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
I can’t keep quiet

Los-Angeles native Connie Lim, better known as MILCK, has been singing for as long as she can remember. She began crafting her talent at a young age by enrolling in classical piano and opera classes. Inspired by artist from Frederic Chopin to Radiohead and Imogen Heap, she experienced something of an awakening in her college's underground piano rooms.
While her song "Devil Devil" hit success, it wasn't until her anthem "Quiet" made waves at the 2017 Women's March and on the internet, garnering over 14 million Facebook plays in 2 days and sparking the #ICanttKeepQuiet movement.
With the goal to help people feel empowered, she sings for the relentless, the vulnerable, and the brave.

I don't know if you'll ever see this comment, but this song just saved my life. I was in a terribly abusive relationship for a decade and hurting so much yesterday as I knew my ex was doing the Women's March but could never seem to honor ME as a woman. I fell apart sobbing yesterday but saw you singing this acapella at the March and I've listened to it all day long....knowing I deserve to put voice to my experience...that I'm not alone...and that the right and good people will not run away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song.

My niece was murdered by her narcissist husband. We never knew the abuse she was enduring physically, sexually, mentally, and psychologically. She was never thin enough, beautiful enough, and obedient enough. She stayed quiet…mostly. The night before her death she had planned her escape for the morning. She didn’t make it to sunrise. She left behind hidden videos and pictures of her abuse that were shocking for all of us. Don’t be quiet.

Anonymous K The people who say that tend to be the same who violently protested when Obama was elected. The difference is Obama didn't make it his mission to mock, harass, & alienate women, minorities, the journalists, the disabled, and immigrants to name a few. He didn't picks fights with celebrities on Twitter. His cabinet choices were actually qualified to run their departments. He tried to do positive things for the country all the while facing opposition from the GOP at every turn. And he showed immense poise and class while under pressure. When trump shows he is acting in the best interest of ALL Americans, then and only then will we give him a chance.

Both men and women are crushed with heavy stereotypical moulds to fit in to. Women are pressured in to being constantly feminine and never being any form of vulgar (amongst a multitude of other things). Men are pressured into being constantly being manly and not expressing emotions. Luckily these berriers are being broken down one by one, and we can all look forward to a less stereotypical tomorrow.

Thank you, Connie Lin/MILCK, so much for this song, this anthem of empowerment! Many years ago I wrote that I felt as though I lived in a glass "tiger cage" like the wooden ones American POWs in Vietnam were kept in. Unable to stand up or lie down or escape all while watching others around me move through life freely. No one noticed me screaming or beating myself bloody on the walls of the glass cage. I was in a prison not of my making that I couldn't escape, lacking the strength and tools; no one acknowledged the trap I was living in. I felt like I was in a vacuum suffocating. I finally cracked my cage in 2014 and am now standing on wobbly, glass-encrusted feet, the cage shattered around me. I wasn't the one to deal the death blow to the cage, but I am the one dealing with the recovery on my own initiative. I keep having to test my boundaries, anticipating the walls and ceiling and never knowing what I'll discover. Each step, each stretch is painful and difficult yet exhilarating too. The first time I saw this video I sobbed uncontrollably because it's the only visualization of what I described that I've ever seen. I felt vindicated and horrified and so many other emotions and I still feel all those emotions each time I watch this video. In spite of that, it's a healing work for me, a potent reminder of what it is to be free, what it takes to achieve that freedom. Please thank everyone involved in the video's creation for such outstanding work!

I have a huge knot in my throat after watching this video, it made me think of all the bs my dear mother had to endure throughout her life, what my young daughter is going to have to fight for, but most importantly, it made me reflect in how at some point in my life I have been a participant in this male bs, and for that I am truly sorry, I had no idea.

I saw the feature on Full Frontal w/ Samantha Bee and the live performance made me cry. I stumbled across the music video and I was taken aback. The powerful imagery conjured something in me that I have been trying to suppress, for my own sanity's sake, all week. But your words reminded me that it's not my responsibility to keep quiet. It's my responsibility to speak up and speak loud, until my voice is hoarse and the war on women is over. Thank you for the moving, motivating, inspiring message. I stand with you.

I saw your video from the Women's March, and I was there too, for MANY reasons. I was bullied so much growing up, I'm surprised I'm still here. I have agoraphobia because of it, and was scared I would be harassed/made fun of at the Women's March. Luckily, I felt nothing but love and solidarity that day. My mobility right now isn't the best, (I walked the March with a cane, and only got to go a short distance of it), but I felt like I HAD to go, for anyone who has ever been bullied/raped/harassed, and/or for those who feel their lives threatened, to show that we will not be silenced or discarded. Thank you so much for this song, which I know comes from your heart.
