Coltrane's solo on Walkin' is amazing. I keep coming back to it. The way the rhythm section decides to keep hitting the same beat to let him float over it. This was right when Coltrane was beginning to morph his sound as part of his spiritual awakening in 1957. History in the making.

Philly Jones was rock n roll man.... his drumming style was absolutely killer. It's no wonder Miles was so unsatisfied whenever he used somebody else, that is a unique sound Philly had.

Philly Joe is really something, especially on the opening track in the first minute and a half or so. Really one of a kind.

At this time, there were none who could even remotely compare with Miles Davis and Philly Jo Jones. Please "dig" Philly Jo's lick's on the opening theme. There, you'll get the message and dig what I mean.

There has been a session at the Bohemia around that time where Kenny Dorham sat in, someone has the tapes?

Of course Philly was great. But, the mike was TOO CLOSE to the drums. Somewhat obscured the other players.

Haha true but most radio broadcasts are not of this quality for anyone in the rhythm section so let's be glad we get one
