I think the thing I really like about the MVC collection is how not only is this a digital museum basically, but also, it's pretty accessible. You an turn on and off the easy specials if you want to. You can customize what you want your layout to be, and you can see the different versions of the game. I was kinda shocked when I heard the announcer say Rockman instead of megaman. But apparently there's a setting for that too.

That's what makes the game stale and fade out.

If you want everything laid out before you in easy to consume chunks on a silver platter, you're in the wrong community. Ever since the beginning, people had to work hard to get better; back then, they didn't even have access to guides on KZbin. Imagine that. Improve your skill level with your preferred characters, or pick a different game (or better yet, a different genre, so we don't have to deal with chumps complaining about "old heads" and "top tiers").

Good stuff. I played all these as a youngster and Children Of The Atom and Marvel Super Heroes are my favorites. Great gameplay, graphics, presentation and sound. A lot of frames of animation were cut after those two games.

My two main gripes right now are: 1. PC matchmaking is having issues. 2. The difficulty for single player doesn't appear to have been adjusted. Therefore, even if you're playing on a "normal" difficulty, the AI is fully in cheat mode. That means they'll block almost everything and essentially read your inputs.

I Don't usually buy games at launch anymore, but this one I made sure to do so. I'm in the minority as the biggest reason I bought this wasn't MvC2, but rather, thanks to this collection I finally have a real, at home version of the game that introduced me and made me want to play fighting games as a kid, X-Men vs Street Fighter, and I've been having a ball. It's about time, Capcom/Marvel/Disney.

As a guy who's really new to the games and learning them for the first time, other than a couple sessions on fightcade and the mvc2 demo back on ps3, this is so much more convenient to play than fightcade, has already made me a couple new friends online, gave me a great night playing through the punisher with my girlfriend, and will definitely be in my rotation for parties and lab sessions, which has not been true for the other fighting game collections I have. For people saying they're worried about player population, I surprisingly have been able to find games for every single game in the collection, and I play late hours on east coast, and you can vibe in literally any mode in any game while you wait for a match, it's sick. And you can queue for multiple games at a time if you're not picky like me! Get on this shit and go have fun getting your ass beat!

One of my old friends from back in the day actually hit me up on IG randomly about this collection, and how we played all these games back in the day in the arcades and consoles, it seriously brought back fond memories. These games have a special place in a lot of folks' hearts, and with this collection releasing, everyone not only gets to relive those moments, but we can actually own these games after all these years. Everyone won't get that, and I'm ok with that.

I 100% agree with you about the games being included as the primary point for this collection. I've played MVC2 and X-Men COTA every now and then but pretty much everything else, I've never touched once. I was in a lobby with friends over discord and we just played casual matches of everything in this collection and it was a total blast! I was particularly surprised how much I dug MSH vs Street Fighter, the weird in between of X-Men vs SF and MVC1. To me, this is like getting 5 new games that I've never been able to play before and that is fantastic.

The context of these games is they were made for coinop in majority, or total. There are glitches and infinites like you hear about, but the early days of pool room tournaments meant that these games were also kind of inconsistent if an operator didnt have the latest version. Having upscaled retail versions mean that they can do online and in person tournaments legitimately. No emulations, or hacks or weird cameras on CRTs, swapping kicks and boards, etc. I think its great, for mvc and also soon to be cvs.

Max talking about the hi-res scans of concept art struck a chord with me. I know it's not *required* for a game, but I adore when they have sketches or concept art from the deepest archives in good quality included with the game. It's endearing and really inspiring to see the art that makes these games. Especially being able to ZOOM in that far, something I spend a lot of time doing over gameplay sometimes. Crazy.

As someone who never had a Saturn, I never bothered to get the PS versions of COTA, X-Men vs SF, or MSH vs SF. I did have a Dreamcast for MvC and MvC2, but I always wanted the older games. This is a dream come true. I hesitated buying the digital version because I have the physicals on preorder, and just dropped money on Astrobot, but I couldn't wait. Any potential buyers' remorse I might've had immediately disappeared when I started playing X-Men vs Street Fighter and MSH vs Street Fighter. It felt like a missing piece of my fighting game soul had finally been found. Thanks for beating the drum for us all these years.

And we don't have to unlock the roster in MvC2! When the arcade version first released it only had roughly half the cast selectable and each individual cabinet would slowly unlock characters as it was played! It was fun to see who got unlocked when you'd come back to the arcade a few days later! Also, the character colors had to be unlocked too! The bright gold boarders on each character icon on the character selection screen had to be unlocked indicating that the characters alt colors were available. The dreamcast version used a in game currency system to unlock characters and colors. Plus the Japanese version would only let you unlock certain characters by playing matches online which wasn't even available here in the US so there were several characters that you couldn't even unlock at all.

As someone who was too young to play fighting games seriously online when MvC2 was out on PS3 back in the day it feels really cool going into ranked on PC and seeing like all the people from that era still actively standing by this game and getting bodied online by a bunch of FGC oldheads. Part of the experience relearning a traditional 6 button fighter as someone who was too used to the simplified four button setup of UMvC3 for the last few years made it a lot of fun as well. I also finally get to play Punisher all the way through for the first time and it's genuinely one of Capcom's best beat-em ups and just one of the best brawlers I've ever played despite being hard as balls

I’ll throw my two cents on this collection, these HD transfers of the games are immaculate, they look so good even on the OLED handheld, crisp looking and probably the closest we’ll ever come to arcade cabinet quality. Also who knows if we’ll ever see a collection like this or these games like this offered ever again in a complete, definitive package. Knowing how Disney and Marvel are with their properties as of late, it’s hard to say if they’ll ever be this generous ever again. No doubt Capcom had some pull with the contracts they signed for these games, and likely enforced it, but who knows if in the next generation of consoles we ever see these games in this level of quality ever again.

It has been a journey for Max, since that hype reveal until this moment when he could finally get this collection in his hands to review it. I have to wait a little longer until the physical release is finally available. I hope the game is kept alive until then.

I've heard another issue with the collection is when you try to play mostly anything else online that isn't MvC2 and MvC1, you may be waiting a while to find anyone to play against if at all, especially in the ranked mode. I was looking forward to being able to select all of the game to play online randomly and just find whoever but from what people are saying, youll just keep getting MvC2 matches over and over.

It probably depends what you're playing on? I have the ps5 version. Been getting consistent matches with cota and msh all day. I haven't even touched mvc or mvc2 yet.

@@jsilva95 The question is though, are you selecting all of the available games from from COTA to MvC2 in the matchmaking or are you specifically looking only for those? And what do you consider consistent? Waiting 10-20 seconds, a minute, 5 minutes? Etc.

@TimeRocker I'm learning the game, so I've been playing casual matches in Msh. Wait time has been about 10 to 20 seconds. I was playing xcom earlier today on casual and the wait time per match was a little longer but not much.

I'm triple dipping by getting the physical Switch release to go with my digital Steam and Switch releases, so I don't really have to worry since the Switch isn't region locked, but it's still a baffling omission all the same.

I'm a near total fighting game noob, can barely make it to Onslaught on the easiest settings even with all the assist options the game gives you. But it's just so awesome to see these games playable again! Easily worth the price of admission, especially if it means the series gets new entries in the near future. I'd love a proper MvC4!

It’s thanks to this channel that I have picked up fighting games 😅 I only play with a couple characters but as soon as I saw mvc I got street fighter anniversary collection fighting collection vol 1 💪 I used to see these games as a kid in the flea markets on ps2 Dreamcast era now I can play them with the power of the internet vs finding them at stores all my gamestops are basically gone so I have to resort to online ordered 2x one on switch and ps4

The biggest problem with this collection, is that it is just the arcade versions. If you don't want to play online, there's basically nothing to do here. They really should have ported at least the full Dreamcast version of MvC2 so that the single player stuff was there. Then had the arcade roms included for people who wanted that version. Because right now, there's no reason for a casual player to really pick this up. That's why I'm not picking it up until I see a steep sale. I don't have people to play with and have no interest in playing online. Even though I love MvC and MvC2, I know I'd play it for a couple hours and never touch it again.

It's really funny how the very first conversation Max had yesterday about MvC2 when he got his hands on it was how so many characters are basically unusable and the massive roster is inevitably ground down to like five characters. If the five characters that were actually usable were like Amingo, Ruby Heart, Shumah Gorath, Marrow and Dhalsim, I doubt anyone would even mention MvC2 these days. It's actually legendary and worth coming back because the unbalanced characters are X-men that 90's kids drooled over though. I really wish they would have rebalanced these games using the 20 year knowledge they've gathered from the FGC so we don't see nothing but Cable, Magneto and Sentinel footage for the next year.

The neat thing is occasionally folks with find new discoveries with the characters that can change team combos a little. I'd much rather have that as a special edition release than part of a collection (akin to the PS3/XBox 360 release)

The licenses to work out for a Tatsunoko release in this day and age has virtually no chance, sadly. That game was a product of simpler times, for sure, but anything is possible. I just don't think the demand for it is there like it has been for MvC.

Apparently, the MvC Collection physical does not come with a cartridge for the Switch version. This has been confirmed for Europe so lets hope NA gets a cartridge.

It's just good to have these classic arcade games in one collection on modern platforms. If you told my 2000s self that I can play MvC2 on a handheld console in a park somewhere in the future, my mind would have been blown. Great time for fighting game fans with more to come.

They really gotta remake that Street Fighter collection in this "Fighting Collection" series. That would be perfect! From SF1 to Third Strike, they wouldn't even repeat any games. Instead of Hyper SF2 and SFA3 Upper, it would just have SF2T and vanilla SFA3 if people prefer that. I really hope they do that eventually.

I'm glad that this collection is a net positive overall but I do hope they would have added the HD version too as a bonus and maybe use it to add new things on top. Not sure this collection will ever be updated besides maybe a fix or two but I kinda wish it gets updated with those missing things.

I remember MvC2 for 360 had a broken arcade mode. They axed the exp. system and for some reason, only the initial 24 characters would appear as opponents. The only way you would face the any of the other 32 was if they were in your team, as the game insists you face your team members at some point in the ladder.

I remember playing MvC2 in arcades and having a blast. It was the ultimate button masher in my opinion. After seeing Max and Justin talking about the game and playing it, I decided I wanted to try it. No lie, MvC2 is still really fun to play and it runs great on my new Surface Pro. So I can take the game anywhere and play anytime.

The only issue I had with Local play was that my PC’s inputs for my Dualsense were all wack, but that might be something on my end rather than the game itself. Other than that I *Really* like how easy it is to just jump right into a game and customize the settings to what I’d want. Only small thing I miss is the lack of in game menus for MVC2 but that was a given and honestly the museum more than makes up for it. Thinking about getting my first fight pad for this cause I’m just so happy to finally have MVC in its entirety to own again.
