Yeah, sumo as a sport already has limited appeal, it doesn't seem like a useful martial or flashy since it only works as a sport mainly, and the character design HAS to have the sumo thong thing apparently so nobody will think they're even stylish l. So may as well use them for a gag

@@bluecanine3374 Sumo has some 80 ways to end a match, throws elbows, knees, legswipes... if you actually read the rules you'd be surprised how much is actually allowed. The thing is that being too technical is not really appreciated amongst the top tier fighters much like todays heavyweight boxers the idea is to spar until you run out of steam and then fight out the stamina reserves and capitalize on mistakes without risking too much. Sumo as a martial art is also greatly influenced by Mongolian wrestling today, its absolutely brutal for novices. It's pretty much a lifestyle since you are required to live at a stable as a manservant to more popular fighters if you want to compete at the upper level in Japan.

Honda and Hakan went to the Olympic Wrestling Committee to try to get Sumo and Turkish Oil Wrestling in respectively, but they find out that next available spot for both sports would be in the 2032 games. If E. Honda or Hakan appear in another Street Fighter game or a crossover game, that should be their Arcade Ending.
