Saw that Miley Cyrus did a rendition of Metallica and immediately ran angrily to my computer to listen to it, but I was positively shocked at how good it is. Never in my 67 years of being a metalhead I expected this. The girl has pipes My wife would've loved this. Pleased.

This is an authentic contralto voice. It's the lowest alto range & the highest tenors. Some people even consider a women's deep octaves a type of falsetto. Not sure I'd go that far, but here she pretty much sings from the bottom to the top of the contralto vocal spectrum. She also sings with a dropped soft palate, which accounts for the slightly nasal tone. Stevie Nicks has a similar construct to her singing, but Miley has more range & power.

Yes, but also less talented than the dozens of female artists that get overlooked in favor of her because name recognition and money. People are lazy, the industry is lazy. Jehnny Beth, Molly Sides or Mary Timony could have killed this 100 times better, but the industry shoves them into niche indie markets and you won't hear them on commercial radio.

@norman smithers oh my lord, please please tell me that you didn't actually put such a statement of this magnitude out there for the 10's maybe 100's of millions of Metalli-maniacs to see, Ay man you are gonna get a bit of stick from any of your friends who Like the 'tallica lads coz dude I'm telling you no-one and I seriously mean absof**kinlutely no-one on the face of the earth is capable of shredding their music the way Mr James Hetfield & the boys do especially when they're on point, which would have to be around 90-95 percent on any given day, sorry man I have been a fan for going on 34 years and I think they have performed at an extremely high level for almost as long as I've been alive lol, jeez you'd be pretty faarken hard pressed to find a band that have played as many shows as they have since their formation in 1982, the biggest, highest capacity and quality of stadiums, arenas, airfields and even Antarctica lol, freaking wow man they must be unbelievably fit, I think they deserve a Superbowl performance, it would be a crowning moment for the greatest hard rock/heavy metal/thrash metal band that have ever existed, we already hear a few of their iconic tunes at damn near every stadium where NFL football games are played, every game too it seems, why not get 'em on the stage to rip it up live for the 100 thousand football fans in attendance, and on hundreds of millions of TV's worldwide for all of the metalli-maniac-family to thrash til we smash Man that would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 🇦🇺🤟😆👍🏴‍☠️ #Metallica4life #TallicaSuperbowl #MetalUpYourAss 🤟🤟😆😆😆😆🤟🤟

Good music is good music. I started this life into things like Madonna, Duran Duran, Prince, Queen, as I grew older I got into Hip Hop and Rock music, Run DMC, Aerosmith, Kool Moe Dee, Guns N Roses, later on I got into heavy metal deeply, Pantera, Slayer, Machine Head, Fear Factroy, Life of Agony etc etc. I still dipped into other stuff too. As I spin towards my 5th decade my selection of most listened too artists include: P!nk, Duran Duran, Fear Factory, Tool, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Xzibit, Holst.... At the end of the day music is art and ALL art is Valid. Like what you like and don't follow a label, explore, have fun! :D

Miley has found her spot I think. Only became a semi fan in recent years, but here, she is in her element. We need an album of hers like this.

I'm 42 years old and Metallica has been my heart band since 1983, maybe even before. I've heard all kinds of covers, all styles and different songs. I won't mention names so as not to be disrespectful, but this girl, until then unknown to me, interpreted the lyrics with her soul, in a way that very few (including rockers). hearing this was a real massage to the ears, soul and heart, everyone involved was absolutely perfect. as a Metallica fanatic, I am very grateful to see how this beautiful song was honored.

So you listened to Kill em All, a then very niche and underground album, as a 5 year old (maybe even younger) kiddo?

I listened to tracks recorded on tapes, which were sold in very underground stores here in São Paulo, there are many of these strongholds until today. my parents frequented these places and had access to all kinds of material. they were pretty eclectic but didn't like Metallica! I, unlike them, loved and reacted differently every time I listened to Metallica, I screamed, grunted, tried to imitate the sound, it was just like that with Metallica. my mother (now deceased) said I seemed to know what band it was. my first full-length album was MASTER OF PUPPETS. that LP (huge for a child) that I carried with all the delicacy not to scratch, along with a box of tapes, is one of the first memories of my life. I like other bands now, of course, but not as much as Metallica. too bad my son (14 years old) doesn't like it... oh yes, thanks for the "kiddo"! haha

You're 42 years old and you had never heard of Miley Cyrus before? Hmm okay.

@@Jogwheel I knew the name but not the voice and talent. I even remember an episode of "Black Mirror" in which she participated. I heard of the controversies, of course, but I was never interested in them. now, i've seen a hundred covers and i liked them all. her own material is not to my liking yet, but now I pay attention to everything she does.

@@James-Burton oh, okay - well that's different. I thought you had literally never heard *of* her... which just seems very unlikely. I can totally understand you not having listened to her deliberately before. She did a pair of songs on Jimmy Fallon after Tom Petty died, "Wildflowers" and "No Freedom" that are also both excellent. Would recommend.
