Didn’t mention this. But it is a crime against humanity and unforgivable if you attempt to haggle AFTER you agreed to meet up with the seller. ESPECIALLY when you do. And you should be sent face first into the center of the sun if you do it. Also, don’t literally say “what’s your lowest price” off rip. Offer a lower number and go from there. Only use that one if they deny the first low offer. But saying exactly that HAS worked for me before.

Austin, it should be noted that the 7.62 garands for $950 are ones with a bushing insert into the chamber and are recommended to not be fired due to bushing ejection and should be conspired as a non firing replica. The ones that are purpose built for .308 are $1600

PSA: for anyone wanting to order those $950 7.62 NATO Garands from the CMP. Those are the "MOD 0" Garands from the navy and are only chambered in said 7.62 NATO because the navy put a chamber insert into existing 30-06 garands. These are prone to "Bushing ejections" and the CMP will only ship them if you sign a waiver saying you will not fire it. The CMP even ships them in an "Inert state" so they cant be fired. Those are considered collectors items and not shooter rifles. If you want a garand that shoots well in 308 you should look at their expert grades, which are a $1150. But do not buy the $950 garand expecting a safe range shooter.

@vocalcoyote93755 ай бұрын
@@Spartan9177I get why they do. They have to make money to promote the training of the youth and their competitions, and they don't control what the government releases to them to sell. So they have to sell what they get, whether or not it may be a great range shooter or just a "collectable". And they do make it very clear what you are ordering. It's better that collectors can buy these rifles and enjoy the pieces of history rather them just sitting in a warehouse or worse destroyed, in my opinion.

This is true of military surplus in general, especially with the boomers dying off. I'm mainly a Civil War collector and 20 years ago, original Springfields were going for about 2,000 bucks a pop. A lot of the WWII generation collected Civil War stuff and when they started dying, their collections flooded the market and drove prices down. A lot of boomers bought it up and with them starting to die off, it's driven prices even lower. I've commonly seen and friends have seen original 1855, 1861, and 1863 Springfields go for around 700-1,200 these days. Even original uniforms and gear has tanked in price and it's only going to get cheaper over the next 10 to 20 years.

By all means ask for somebody’s best price, but if you see somebody selling a used Glock for like 350 bucks, just buy it and be happy. Or you get people wanting to trade you 500 rounds of 5.56 when you’re asking like $400 for a gun. Basically, as the potential buyer, you have to not waste my time either

Also, it got really annoying to deal with most surplus owners asking ridiculous prices (like 500$ for a war era round receiver mosin, or 700$ for an M48) and not even willing to work on prices. And the amount of random "rare" stuff you see at gun shows always seems sus, and almost every time I have double checked stuff like that, it turns out to be bullshit, like the "Red 9" C96 I got offered that was beat to hell with I correct markings and missing it's special grips. Speaking of auctions. Whenever you don't agree with a price you just get told "go look on gunbroker"

I’d have to disagree with restoring some sporterized rifles. It can be done, but in some cases it’ll just not be worth it. For example, 99% of sporterized Arisakas aren’t worth restoring even if it’s just the stock. The stocks are going for almost as much as a basic complete rifle. Type 99s are commonly sporterized and that process almost always includes cutting off the front sight protectors to get the front barrel band off in early Type 99s, or cutting off the rear barrel band on late Type 99s are its welded onto the barrel. I see many new collectors buy a sporterized Arisaka in hope of restoring it, but quickly learn that it’s a money sink. They also tend to overpay for sporters, I just saw a guy buy a complete sporter Type 38 (cutdown stock, drilled Lyman rear sight, converted to 257 Roberts) for $400 and wanted to restore it. Carcano M38s also seem to have no stock availability if it’s been sporterized.

Oh yeah and pawnshop wise, we got in good with the local shop, we always get like $200 off their prices on milsurp.

I used to sell cars and I hate haggling. You either offer something for what you believe is a fair price, or you're trying to fuck me. If I have to haggle with you it's an unforgiveable waste of my time; it's very important that you do your research and figure out what a fair price is for something before going out and trying to buy it.

See what you mean, but again, the military surplus market is artificially inflated, so when the entire market is predatory, a text message or email as an attempt to haggle isn’t wasting anyone’s time. A seller will either engage or won’t. The only unforgivable waste of time is if you agree you will take something and meet them and try to haggle after agreeing you’d buy it. Which gets you banned from most classified websites, it’s why there is a seller and buyer rating on most of them and has some kind of moderator team.
