As for the issues with punctured lithium battery cells exploding, you could look at the ammunition storage units in tanks, like the M1 Abrams, which use blowout panels in case the armor is penetrated to redirect ammunition cook off and keep fire away from the crew. A system of these blowout panels could redirect the fire from these cells away from the doors and passengers, allowing them to escape without further injury.

First, the more "protection" means the heavier it gets, which hits the weak spot of electric vehicles - long range autonomy. Keep in mind, using it in war means not only on asphalt, so using it up and down in woods, over rocks etc depletes battery life even faster. Second, using it in cold conditions makes it battery range lower, using it in cloudy sky, night time or "not in the open" makes the solar charging useless. Not saying a military look doesn't look cool though :)

Fascinating video. Not only do we need a low maintenance tactical sci-tech civilian truck to last a massive one million miles, Cybertruck, but also an independent solar power charging station at home ready to roll anytime should an oil and power grid crisis occur at some point in the future, but would plug in the standard fossil fuel generated power grid at work and during a long road trip. I hope this option becomes possible in 2 to 4 years from now.

@sw3604 Жыл бұрын
New tech that they're building factories for nearly triple the range on EVs. Other new tech they're setting up to mass produce allows EVs to charge in 10 mins. Both technologies are expected to be affordable to the public in the next 8 years or so. They already exist and are being intigrated into some luxury 2025 and 2026 models last I heard. The range of a top line cybertruck would be 1300 + miles with the new batteries. EVs are significantly more affected by extreme temperatures and load size, and reliance on electricity being available in warzones is problematic, though solveable with portable wind/solar/gas generators. There are pros and cons to it.

I'm not sure why it wasn't picked up as a viable option but I'm sure it had something to do with over-all cost. I'm on the fence between super capacitors or some new battery chemistry being the next biggest leap towards electric military vehicles. The added benefit of the quick interchangeability of super capacitors show much promise. I have also heard that Zero Motorcycles has been working with the US Army SF to make silent military dirt bikes more viable missions. When I was in the Army 87 to 91 I drove an armored car for a couple weeks for a visiting Italian general...maybe French. I forget I just drove the car. We had dozens of people to cart around all in different cars. We must have cleared out all of the armored cars in West Germany(before the wall came down) because I got like the armored clown car. It was so terrible I wouldn't be telling about it if anyone knew my YT handle. It was a Volkswagen bus! It was probably an 85 or newer. OH my god it suuucked. Old fashioned armor, so like 4 inch thick windows and good old iron...probably cold rolled and chrome molly. If they had put a big block chevy in it it would have been under powered but a VW engine? WHO thought of this? At least it wasn't that pop up roof bus they had in the 80s. I got stuck at an uphill stop light and it would not GO! The general was clackin away in...Italian or French. I mean I was like 19. I had been drifting with a 68 Impala(big block and T10 4 speed) since I was 12 and before there was such a thing as drifting. SO I panicked, got pissed, threw it in R and stomped on it, and slowly rolled backwards. Once I had a little speed I whipped the wheel, slid it around into the opposite lane, ignoring all other traffic but missing them, and pointing back down the hill and already doing a fair clip. The general liked it, I think, but I thought I'd lost it for a sec due to being so top heavy. Went around the block and got a running start at the hill and ignoring the stop light. We got ambushed by a stoplight on a hill. So that's the under powered armored car story...that I'll never tell in person...not without making the car a BMW when I tell it, lol.
