I’m very impressed with your video-it aligns perfectly with the information I’ve gathered from reliable Chinese sources. Most of the other English-language videos on this topic are not worth mentioning. Your explanation of the optimized supercruise speed is particularly noteworthy-it’s spot on! The J-36 is a platform designed to support a variety of power-demanding systems and weapons, capable of sustained supercruise (even if just slightly above Mach 1, it still counts, right?) for an EXTENDED DURATION. I suggest emphasizing this point more in your video, as it’s a critical feature. It should be referred to as an air cruiser, not just a simple 6th-generation fighter. While the F-22’s supercruise capability is undeniably impressive, it does make me wonder: what’s its effective range, and how long can it sustain that speed?
@ICECAPPEDSKY18 сағат бұрын
F22 has a range of 1800 miles according to the US airforce when carrying twin fuel tanks which can be jettisoned if need be. Supercruising is just supersonic flight without afterburner which is about 3x more fuel efficient or more depending on the engines. And with a super cruise of Mach 1.5+ that’s very good. F15 has probably the farthest range still of any fighter at 3500 miles if you take CFT’s and drop tanks.

It’s not about 6th generation. It’s about a new category of aircraft … long range missile delivery truck, no significant design trade offs/compromises for other missions. The result is a long range plane that will super cruise, hard to detect, and launch PL17 missiles to dominate the air out to the 2nd island chain and launch YJ12 missiles to dominate the sea out past the 2nd island chain. Notice how missiles will be launched at very high altitudes and Mach 2+ for maximum missile range. Notice how the very high altitude and high speed of the J36 will allow escaping from bad situations. Notice how 3 engines, low drag, low wing loading will allow accelerating from high altitude super cruise to higher altitude mach 2.5+ when escaping or launching missiles (including anti-sat missiles)

16:40 This angle really shows how bulky the hinge/actuator pods can be. The reason why the inner surfaces do not use flexures or elastic joints could be because they may have more degrees of motion and, perhaps, more actuations per unit of time, as they have to control pitch and likely roll stability as well. The two outer surfaces do appear to have roll duties, of course, but yaw is likely their main purpose.

Fun fact: J-50 from Shenyang was actually the first one that was spotted flying. There was a picture similar to the J-50 that was floating around days or weeks before J-36 was spotted but was flagged as fake but now it doesn't seem so. Also, there are already 2 models spotted from the last month (2 sightings) and just recently this month which is a different model.

No worries! USA has Homelander who can survive nukes and can fly at Mach 15! But seriously though, I predict US 6th gen fighter will take flight somewhere around this year or 2026. I heard that 3 prototypes flew in 2020 but that these were only tech demonstrators and not really a 6th gen.
@domokun84522 сағат бұрын
@TeoDP7 What happened to them going back to the drawing board last year and rumors of losing funding? Wonder if this actually spurred Washington.
@HeidiKernstad22 сағат бұрын
I doubt they will have a finalized prototype in 2026 when they still have not picked a design yet. And yes, Lockheed, Boeing and Mc Douglas allegedly flew their airframes in late 2019 and early 2020 according to unnamed sources. I also read that the estimated cost of a NGAD unit would be $300 mil, so the USAF got cold feet and wanted to explore “other options.” Again from unnamed sources. I think they might go the unmanned route. A 6th Gen drone. Cheaper to develop and faster to produce than a manned fighter.
@TeoDP722 сағат бұрын
@@domokun845as I said in my original comment I heard that these were only tech demonstrators (taken from another person’s source) and not a true NGAD, about the NGAD going back to drawing board the reason for that is that it’s apparently being re-designed to be capable of combating modern upcoming and new systems, since the NGAD was designed in 2014 I think this could make sense. Also which rumors that it’s losing funding? For now on I think US will keep upgrading its current 5th gen fighters (F-35, F-22) before setting up a wing of NGADs (Like F-35 is getting a new APG-85 radar which will be better than the APG-81 and also some new engines, that and a new stealth coating is being tested on the F-22.)

Thank you! The three engine setup is the most intriguing feature to me. I wonder if all three units are the same or the middle one differs in some respect. It would be most interesting if it was some kind of very efficient cruise engine or maybe one optimized for supersonic regimes with different bypass ratio, etc. To achieve an effect similar to what Adaptive Cycle engines try to achieve out of a single unit, adaptation of power delivery according to different flight requirements. Just guessing here, thanks again for your content!

The center turbofan/turbogenerator hypothesis doesn't make sense since it will be useless in any high angle maneuver. If the center engine is only designed for "sprints" then it's more likely a turbojet or future ramjet.
