@@rosearellanes5648 - huh?! Yes, Judge Dorow was an excellent judge, but I think she let that idiot who defended himself take way too much control in the courtroom. I don't see anything wrong in letting all the facts come out in this case. It will render a teen life in prison or not. And this teen has severe mental problems. It's so sad in every direction you look at it. 😥

He planned and plotted to kill these four children! And now he wants the Judge to have mercy for him, where did this teen show mercy for the people he killed and injured? As for Jusge Dorow, she gave that narcissist, so many chances, so that he will have no room for an appelit issue in the future

I put my teens in therapy without them requesting it. My adult children all went when their dad and I separated, and our now 15 year old daughter has had 4 clusters of therapy. Even if they don't stick with it long, it give the outlet and also opens a line of communication with your teen if you are struggling to connect. But also, above even therapy is love. I struggle with physical affection past toddler years, But I learned that I could still wrestle with my kids read to them, with practice I could not cringe when they were 7 and my size and suddenly hugged me. Is it not the same as all of parenting? We go go to any heights or depths in the best interests of the child?

Have you ever seen a child constantly annoy parents for something they want? … my guess is they wanted to get him to leave them alone ( as most parents this day and time do with their children), so instead of explaining to him he needed maturity, and to be more responsible, the easy way out for the parents are buy them what they want. I am raising a grand- daughter rigth now who was on a 2 gallon sized bag of medications, of which she came off of and is a typical happy teenager now! When parents dont want to parent, it makes a difference! My teenage grand-daughter moved here and was sleeping all the time, overweight and depressed. She was on about 5-6 differnet meds , some ONLY supposed to be prescribed to ADULTS! She said her mom took her and had her put on those meds, because she was “ angry and moody”( she was being a normal hormonal teenager! ) Now she is fixing to start her second year of high school and she acheived the chance to take an Honors Geometry class last year, of which she starts later this week! Before she got here, her and her siblings werent attending school regularly, amd their grades were almost failing in every subject! Parental guidance can make all of the difference in the world ( as well as laying out boundaries, and keeping tabs on what they are doing, without violating their privacy! ) Being a parent is hard consistent work, most ppl this day and time do not want the responsibility of parenting, they cant “ handle it”….. this is mainly why we have our grand-daughter now! She had no boundaries, no routine with family, and her only contact was her mom and stepdad yelling and arguing with her. She was pretty much put on meds to keep her out of her moms hair. These children need safety, security and guidance. Discipline is also an aspect of teaching them responsibility. We have had a rough 10 months, but she has made so many good positive goals for herself, and she is like a different child ( well, I say child, she is 15 which is a child, but on the verge of being an adult.) they must be treated with respect, but learn to respect others also. Sadly, this young man sounds like he spent most of his time alone from 6-7 years old. No wonder he had fears and thought he heard ppl in the house, when he was at home alone! His developmental stages have been spent in isolation, away from security, and a sense of safety! No. His parents should never have purchased a weapon for him, especially knowing he had mental issues already…… i agree totally on that. All he really needed was love, guidance and a little bit of a sense of security and stability in his life, but definately not a weapon like that! Of course, he did a horrible thing, I say he deserves life in prison for his actions, It just saddens me there are so many out there who have nobody to truly love and guide them through childhood! We can never really understand what these children go through! Sadly, everyones answer is “ put them on medication”…. That only increases their mental issues! Heck, most of the meds cause hallucinations, amd have serious side effects, worse than the easiest cure,…. Stability, love and securit, with a dose of guidance and discipline! It is a different world than we knew growing up, for sure! Nowadays they think the cure is to give them a pill.

This witness is very interesting. He talks about the brain development of teens, how its the next big change after the infant development we hear so much about. I've never heard the importance of this. Its scary raising teens, especially in todays world.

I run an in home daycare for 35 years. Children as young as 4 understand we do not shoot people. We do not hurt people’s bodies. This young teenager knew what he was doing that was wrong.

Then you should know the seven signs of mental illness. He was suffering from a disease a disease like diabetes, heart disease they need to be treated. The brain needs to be treated treated just like any other part of the body. His brain was not running properly. Because he’s suffering from a disease called depression. His parents failed him.

Even if he’s sentenced to mandatory minimums for each charge, that’s at least 75 consecutive years. This case calls for higher numbers due to all the aggravating factors. There are no mitigating circumstances here. If he we’re ever released he’d resume torturing and killing anything weaker than him such as defenseless young children, elderly folks and any small animals. HE SHOULD BE ON DEATH ROW!

Until I watched his sentencing on December 8, 2023, and just now watching Ethans trial, I had no idea the horrific things Ethan did and thought. This Judge has definitely made the right judgement, life without parole for Ethan. The horrible things he did to humans and animals is mind boggling, and unimaginable that someone could even think about doing. They can put him on all kinds of anti-depressants, anxiety meds, but his sickness will continue, his mind is messed -up, he doesn't deserve to be out in the world free ~ I wonder if both his parents were allowed to watch these court proceedings while they've been in jail? If so, they are probably blown away at what they didn't know, or care to know at how sick their son really is. They probably just thought he was going through some phase and would 'grow out of it'. I can't wait to watch their day in court to see what they have to say ~ Sadly, Ethan is finally hearing/getting all the information sitting in his own trial regarding his thoughts and mental health that he was Googling about from the 3 doctors that took the witness stand, but now it's too late ~

If his parents didn’t see Ethan was disturbed they must be hopelessly ignorant. They weren’t doing their job. He was screaming out for help and he was ignored. If they had spent the time with him they would have been in touch with what was going on with him. I abhor what he did. That is every mother’s nightmare when they send children to school these days, but he obviously is mentally ill and he should have received treatment. I hate what he did, but I feel compassion for him.

I did find myself feeling remorse for this defendant. It was quite clear that his parents didnt want to be bothered with him, and did not care at all. The things his mom has said about him are horrible and they will have their day in court. On that note, the way and manner this defendant killed his victims were cold, calculated and evil and he deserves life in prison. There were many details i didnt know about this case until this hearing, and my heart breaks for the parents and staff of Oxford High School.

Good job Defense. This witness makes a compelling case why adolescents can be held accountable for actions but may not be judged and prosecuted as an adult. Words like lifetime and death make little sense to young people who lack experience to form decisions applying to either condition.

Grownups shoot and kill people too. Mass shooters and terrorists are usually grownups, so what s point of the expert on children. He was old and smart enough to plan the shooting, how to use a gun and write about it, so he sure knew it was wrong. He wanted to do it. Even a 10 year old knows it s wrong to shoot others. I feel sad for his childhood, but cant just blame difficult childhood and parents. But feel the parents are just as guilty. Would never buy my son a gun or dangerous weapon at any age. Hate guns. The parents are absolutely just as guilty. The testimony from the expert witness in this video explains why we generally hold children less culpable for their crimes than adults -- even if a child is very intelligent, as Ethan seems to be, and even if they made a plan ahead of time. This boy needs to be in prison for the rest of his life either way.

This is a child. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, he is a child. Although his actions were clearly reprehensible, every child still has redeemable value. How can this judge sentence him based on the fact that Ethan accepted responsibility for his actions, and then the next day the same judicial system convicts his parents for failing to intervene. You can’t have it both ways Michigan. Ethan is either solely responsible, or else there are significant mitigating factors. And the fact that not one, but both parents have now been found criminally responsible for the death of those kids is the most mitigating factor I can think of. Ethan’s crimes may have been premeditated to an extent, but the neglect and emotional abuse this child suffered predate any such premeditation by several years (if not Ethan’s entire life leading up to these crimes). I also fail to understand how the victims in this case can be referred to as children throughout this hearing, yet Ethan is somehow considered an adult (despite the fact that some victims were older than he was at the time of the shooting). Michigan, your justice system is a disaster.
