The expected path of hurricanes is well known; why not evacuate these expensive boats/cars/aircraft? I wonder if there is a business opportunity in providing owners and insurance companies an escape that the owners are apparently unable to provide?

I have no idea, so sincere question; why didn't they just sail away before the hurricane hit? out of town/state owners? or was it just too big and sudden to sail to safety?

@@toadis6949 OK, reasonable answer. I wonder if there is a business model for a service that provides for the evacuation of an expensive asset. In exchange for reduced insurance premiums, the owner agrees to hand over the keys to professionals who work for an evacuation company. When a tropical storm is brewing south of Cuba and headed for Florida, for example, these professionals would be ordered into Florida for asset evacuation duty.

I’m not sure if they do it for more expensive boats, but I know that will small personal planes, if you don’t move it before a big storm, the insurance companies will fight to not pay for the damages, because their logic is: it’s a plane, you could be anywhere else in a few hours.

36 hours before the Hurricane hit, they had it going well North of Fort Myers, All of us didn't think we would receive a direct hit. Would it have been smart to move them yes, however we had houses, family, pets and other things to have to deal with as well. Easy to say after the fact...

Yeah moved my boat out from drystack on the coast before the whopper hit Houston back in 2008. Was really wanting a big tree to take it out. Couldn't sell it at the time, had 65k loan on it and insured to 75k. Gigantic tree missed it by 3 feet. I never have any luck. Boat survived, and it cost big to take the hit to dump it cheap.

If you think things will be back to normal anytime soon you are mistaken. It's been over 4 years since I rode out and lost everything to hurricane Micheal and I'm still feeling the effects. We still have homes and buildings with tarps with everything still setting untouched. Neighborhoods, streets and basically the land is forever changed. In these videos I still see trees. Not where I was. Trees are east and west of ground zero.

I used to work for Carver Yachts many many years ago and it,s heartbreaking to see a boat I worked on nearly sunk all the way down in the water as well as the other yachts damaged and piled up against each other. But thats what hurricanes do . My prayers are with those people affected by the hurricane. My dad and stepmom live in Napals,FL and got hit by the storm and flooding and power outages. They are doing ok so I,m glad they weathered the storm(pun inteneded).

I grew up on boats, sailing. Our boats held our blood, sweat tears and hearts. After family, pets, we'd have another family member in them. And in this case could split up get all to safety. No money could replace one . One person can move a boat as far as necessary. I can't understand this. We lived on our last two sailboats. We'd maintenances, cared for every inch inside and out, stem to stern. The varnish, paint, woodwork was done with love and pride. My dad showed me all that from a young age, I always knew our boat was sound. Not off the list. Letting them pile up like garbage is so wasteful and will make insurance harder to get each time a big storm hits. Don't see Ferraris piled up in the streets. Car, boat. Why?

@@turtleneckferret True, I overstate my feelings. But I also like having a feeling that taking a loss is not really, if an insurance company has to pay me for the worth of what I lost. That if they do, I didn't lose after all, because that leads to lots of people feeling it's ok I got paid for it. I like ethics and personal responsibility and accountability and not going down a road of being ok because I got an insurance check or if all else fails I will sue someone. But if money comes my way, it's ok. Doesn't matter if it is just, just so I get mine, those people aren't worried about their neighbors and if they got out of their house or much of anything besides their financial standing. Oops, there I go sharing my feelings again. Sorry. If you all had channels I could send each of you a superchat and make it right. It's my right, just as it's yours not to read comments you don't enjoy. Have a good day, may you not be in the storms path, my friend.

The boat owners have no clue how to take care of boats. If one of those Yachts belonged to me then I would have done something different than using a rope to tie up the boat at a dock, and place the boat beside, or in front of other boats that can probably smash or crash into another boat, or fly into another boat, or be tossed out of the water.
