WHAT A TRAGEDY FOR SURE! MY HEARTS GO OUT TO EVERYONE..I live in Ct and was looking to move to Orange county or Lee county in the Spring..I am now rethinking this decission..MY QUESTTION>>>> how do you even clean up after something like this? Where does all the wood and furniture go? what about all the cement?? What is done with it? what do they do with all the boats? my mind is boggled! thank you and God Bless everyone including all the rescuers xo

Thank God for building codes that anchored mobile homes and roofs!! I am amazed at the number of mobile and wood-framed homes that are still standing!! Unlike homes on the Bolivar Peninsula (Texas) that were wiped clean off the map during Hurricane Ike, Floridians are blessed to have structures to clean upon their return.

Isn't amazing what having a competent government can mean?
@melissas48742 жыл бұрын
@@davidh9844 There's a federal regulation for mobile home builds - it's not state related. Homes that aren't "factory built" are often built according to a state or local code (county or city) which can often be less effective in hurricanes than the mobile home codes.

Hurricane Harvey survivor here..some advice...... Run! And get a storage unit somewhere that didn't flood and isn't damaged. That will be like ground zero for salvageable items. If you have flood insurance document everything that was in and around your house that was damaged. I mean Everything! Insurance will only pay for the depreciated value of your items and your house. You only have about a week before your house starts blowing up in mold. And anything that is wood will continue to crack even days after the water went down If you don't have flood insurance.....start filing a claim with FEMA. There's a cap to how much money they can give you and it's not much. The rest of it will be offered to you in the form of a loan through the SBA. Small Business Association

I live in Bradenton Florida by Sarasota Bay and I evacuated to Orlando area and the storm flooded Orlando too!! For those comments that we should live inland- this is inland Florida is full of lakes and rivers that overflowed. We didn’t have a lot of warning because no one knew exactly where the hurricane would hit My first hurricane! Moved here from Boise Idaho a 18 months ago. Did not realize that a hurricane could practically cover and affect the entire state. Thankful for all who are praying for us!! I am so sorry that this happened to you and everyone. Thank you for posting this. I have to tell you what happened to me. I live on the Gulf in Pinellas County, so I had to evacuate. My family decided we will go to Naples, we left Tuesday and on the way the radio is saying the hurricane shifted to the south towards where we were going! We stopped at a gas station and the employees were wonderful there. In the pouring rain, they were directing all the cars to the pumps. We decided to not go to Naples and head back home. Please pray for all those employees at the gas station. It’s called Love’s Travel Stop in Fort Meyers, Fl. Also for our friends in Naples, we have not got a hold of them since Tuesday night 😢

Nothing you could have done to prevent this short of not living there. Nature is a formidable opponent. I am truly sorry. I lost 80% of my belongings in flood 10 years ago. I’m sad now and then, but it’s just stuff. The only thing in my basement that survived was my furnace because it was a high boy. It was only 2 years old. Insurance paid nothing, nor did I get any assistance to clean up or pay for any of my loss. It’s just stuff. I now have flood coverage, but that just tells me it will never happen again, at least in my lifetime. I live in an area where it has only flooded once in recorded history, hence no flood insurance.

On the good side, you weren't home, you weren't hurt, and, unlike Louisiana and New Orleans after Katrina, you have a strong, competent Republican governor who will insure the rebuilding takes place and quickly. It's amazing that so many of the mobile homes you passed stayed in place. Good luck for the future, it's only a house and you are not hurt.
