Normally, she also pays $229 per month toward her federal loans, but those have been deferred through the end of the year due to Covid-19. She expects to pay off her private loans in eight years and her federal loans in 25. At that time, any remaining balance on her federal loans will be discharged, and Colman will pay taxes on the amount forgiven. " She also said before the virus, she spent $600 a month on vacations. In 25 years, only paying $229, she only paid $68,700. Then the loan would probably be over 500k. She would still owe over 200k in tax.

In NZ our government decides policy around student loans etc so is she relying on something that’s not guaranteed, like in 25 years a lot can change. Or is this “forgiveness” a guarantee?
@kylemorehead68394 жыл бұрын
@@sophiehinton8181 when student loan debt is "forgiven" in the US it's counted as "income" and subject to regular income tax. It's still less than the remainder of the debt but having that huge bill all at once can cause big issues for some people.

BobTheBuilder69 also what she said about private vs state it just depends on which private I suggest attending college fairs because many colleges have a no loan policy where they won’t give loans as part of their financial aid so you’ll only get grants etc. I’d say private colleges have great alumni network depending on which and will have many resources depending on your major. There’s so much factors. Do your research and don’t go to college for the name brand

Her car note should have been less than $200. There was another millenial money video where the girl was debt free from college but was paying like, $600+ a month for her BMW. Now THAT i can see being an issue...but Mazdas arent expensive at all. She could have bought a pre-owned Mazda instead for wayyy cheaper. I had parents that paid me for chores and it was great. We had basic chores that were non negotiable as I was after all living there but then we had optional ones that we could earn money from like washing windows. And we could pitch other chores, when we thought of something that should be done like recogging the bathroom and then negotiate the rate. We were never paid by the hour always per task. It taught me a lot. First of all, to value of money as it does not just appear. Second, that there is always more opportunity to make money when you are creative. Lastly, that not everything you do will make you the same amount of money so you should invest your time wisely. I also has a 90% tax rate not on the money I earned through chores but on any money gifts I got. The money was invested for me and in retrospect I am very grateful as I always had the safeynet it afforded me.
