The Graham Stephan Show - I’ll bet it’s your fault! You’re doing such a great job of shaming all of those bad habits and spending, that the mainstream is starting to put forward better examples! This is a good thing, despite it making your search harder, because now people aren’t seeing the justifying influence (“I saw all these other people do it, I must be ok”; “at least I’m not as bad as them”, etc.). as much and are being confronted with good role models. I really think you had a hand in that trend reversal, and it’s a good deed!

Don't the guests pay? In my country weddings are for profit in order to help the young people with their start. But on the other hand it kinda sucks when you are invited to a wedding. @@stefancoban59 They don't "pay" per se, no. They give like a small amount of money like "gift" of sorts, which usually ranges from $10 to $100 maybe (voluntary) and that's it. They note it down just so the family can account how much they have, and also for tax purposes. And then they can also split it and give it to the groom and the bride. It's nowhere even close to how expensive the Indian weddings are (or can be). They do last many days, atleast in Hinduism. The entire process takes months to prepare for but the actual wedding itself would take nowhere less than a week. The venue preparation for: 1) engagement ceremony, 2) haldi ceremony, 3) the wedding itself (which lasts like 2-3 days all things included), and then 4) reception. As a young hindu, I think there's many like me in my generation who think it's a gigantic waste of money and absolutely unnecessary. Culture is good and all but if the culture makes you waste that ginormous amount of money and time, it's only pulling you back. Not to say I think any differently for the same happening in any other religion.

@SailorOtaku4 жыл бұрын
Have to add part of the reason the forgiveness is so low is issues with applicants who have been working for the last 10 years not meeting the appropriate requirements because they we're not well informed. The program have become a lot more clear in recent years so if someone has recently started meeting requirements and annually checks their payments it is likely they will get approved down the line. The larger concern is the removal of the program.

I've seen the break down on some people doing the public service forgiveness and if you calculated the missed wages vs a better paying private sector job as well as the taxes on forgiveness of a 10 year loan after interest has made it grow and they often would be better off making more money and putting it towards the loans themselves. :S

@@darthmoomoo the standards are normally more lax for guys than girls but I'm glad your parents were more modern, the families I know are hella traditional. I think in the end they all come around even if they disown you at least when it's time for grandkids.

As I do my med school applications while I also put my 20k grad school loans on repayment. My gf is also going to med school and we are just so unsettled at the thought of hold our relationship if we go to different schools and do different residencies, how we both wont start making money until age 30 (and even that is only equivalent to an entry level job), and us both being in great debt afterward. We wont be living a comfortable life until ages 40 at the earliest. All the more reason to truly love what you do for a living, and stay healthy so we have the physical ability to enjoy the fruits of our labor/sacrifices as we get older. Doctors trade time for many, but it’s so rewarding since that time is also traded for bettering the lives of thousands of people over a lifetime. No amount of money can combat the feeling of making the world a better place with your own hands.

Gram! It's common for Indians to spend that much on weddings! And they both are from different backgrounds! They are getting married under both their traditions! So don't you think it's fine for them to spend $50,000?

I feel like an unconscious way the guy is so good with his expenses is that he probably converts everything to PHP. Everything seems waaaay more expensive when converted to PHP and then compared to prices back home 😂
