Honestly waited for something like this forever. Atlantis was a cornerstone in my childhood, so it’s really exciting to see someone’s live action take on the IP. The casting and soundtrack were phenomenal, this deserves to be a full mini series!

I’ll never forget seeing the original film for the first time at age 13 when it released in theaters (I’ll leave a funny story at the end of my comment). It really shaped my life on how I interacted with art media and pop culture. So watching this short fan film, as I replayed the original scenes beat-for-beat from memory as I compared and contrast with this live-action interpretation, I thought I was going to ruin the experience for myself! I’m glad that wasn’t the case. What I thought done really well was the story’s pacing, adapting to its medium seamlessly. The casting of characters were spot-on; without them being carbon copies of their animated counterparts, found actors that fit the age range and profile look, tied together with appropriate costuming. I knew exactly who was who the moment they appeared on screen! The set locations (so amazing) and costumes really captured the illusion of it being 1912. The lighting was also pretty dynamic, particularly on Whitmore and Helga. I’m glad to have taken the time to watch right away. Would definitely recommend. And I hope your crew would consider developing more short films that play out other scenes from “Atlantis: the Lost Empire”! Story time: I asked my mom to take me to see “Atlantis: the Lost Empire” a few days after my dad treated us out and I was overruled on movie choice by my 6-year-old sibling to see “Cats & Dogs”. My math homework assignment that next school year was to make a summer highlight chart. I did literally nothing else except see these two movies and go to summer school, guess which ones I gave these ratings to: +5, 0, -5. Yes, summer school was the neutral.

I liked the original but always felt like the pacing was rushed, too much happened in the first 15 minutes and the rest felt like something essential was cut out just to get to the end of the movie. I never wanted a live remake but I'm glad someone is doing it and giving the story a proper treatment

Isn’t that implicitly clear in the title? It screams “we are RE telling a story”. Part of re telling stories is the nostalgia that goes with the story, thats part of the joy of repetition. Sounds like you criticize the film for doing what it says its going to do?
