Vader only kills you if you're incompetent,extremely annoying, actively trying to kill him or if it's necessary for his plans. He isn't going to murder a random trooper because of mild embarrassment.

That is a point of great storytelling. That this character has been built up in a way that the tension was significantly increased just for that reason.

I honestly never was worried about the trooper. He was just a stormtrooper, and Vader rarely hurt Stormtroopers. That, and he could read thoughts. He probably could read that the trooper was nervous and knew why he was leaning over(catching his breath).
