Dali was capital of two large kingdoms from the 8th and 10th centuries, until conquered by the Mongols in the 12th century. The present Old Town was rebuilt by the Ming dynasty in the beginning of the 14th century. Outside of the Old Town are the famous Three Pagodas, from 9th-10th century.

+Amazing Places on our Planet What I find interesting with your videos is that you are extremely thorough at the locations you visit. You take enough time and get enough shots from various angles that I feel I've gotten a really good sense of the place. Did you visit Hainan when you went to China? That's the only place I've been, but I was stuck on a job and only got to see a small portion of the island. What I saw, I loved. I'd love to see what I missed.

That is quite right, or at least it is something I am attempting to achieve when I have enough time. The ultimate goals is to cover the best viewpoints but this of course is quite hard to achieve

Milosh, please don't feel Oblige to answer my comments but, I just can't help myself in writing something when I encounter your videos they truly are a mechanism for teaching us about cultures and history. These structures I don't know much about but I do know that they are ancient. They must have been the precursors of the modern skyscraper. We've been told that the first one was built in Chicago in the late 19th century but these structures must be from the 16 or 17th century pre dating the modern skyscraper by at Lear 300 hundred years. Good job as always.

+Benjamin Martinez In fact they are from the 9-10 centuries. And when earthquake struck the area around a century ago some 2 story buildings collapsed but the tree pagodas stay as they have been built!

The main pagoda, known as Qianxun Pagoda (pinyin Qian Xun Ta), was built during 823-840 AD by king Quan Fengyou (劝丰佑), is 69.6 meters (227 feet) high and is one of the tallest pagodas in China’s history.

I use mostly camcorder, and I list the model in the video description. It is convenient to carry and provides better depth of field, even though not that good in low light

Beautiful! Nicely done! By the way, I would love to have heard the Chinese girls playing African drums in that shop called gu dong ren sheng. The drums they were playing were African djembes, so I wonder if they were playing African rhythms or Asian or what? It seems doubtful that they have been exposed to traditional African drumming.

There were so many of these shops, and everywhere they were drumming from time to time to attract customers, not always playing well. do not remember specifically some ethnic drumming, probably something generic...
