Since we saw it first at the ISN Tool Expo a couple months back, we couldn't wait to get our hands on this new Milwaukee 3050 M12 FUEL Insider Extended Reach Ratchet. Think of an extended-reach high-speed cordless ratchet that had an even lower profile head. In addition, you also get a pass-thru design on the sockets that allow a stud or all-thread to run through the middle in all the sockets from 8mm to 15mm. The metric socket set comes with the 3050-20 and the 3050-21 Kit. The kit includes a 2.5Ah battery and an M12 charger.

The best thing about the insider is that you can have the forward reverse switch on the socket side so if you accidentally loosen something until your ratchet gets stuck you can just switch it to tighten and pull out your ratchet.

I placed my preorder through Acme. I probably won’t have too many uses for the pass through but for the extended reach, low profile sockets, and exchangeable anvils, it saves me from buying multiple tools. I needed an extended reach to compliment my high speed.

Ratchet torque is a necessity.. not for breaking bolts however it's to power through stubborn fasterners and keep turning whether dealing with dirty , rusted greasy fasterners if you spend $300 on power Ratchet and it stall everytime you power it.. now u have to racket the nut or bolt all the way off manually defeats the purpose of having a powered racket to begin with 😎 a bonus of a torqueyer racket vs high speed is for use with taps holes cleaning threads
@superspeeder
@superspeeder 10 ай бұрын
THIS! It’s running out those rusty fasteners or lock nuts is where powered ratchets need the torque. I couldn’t care less about a ratchet’s breakaway torque. I have the standard M12 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets, which are good but not overly strong. I have the 1/2” Fuel and it’s got great torque for suspension work, but it’s bulky. This insider looks great but it’s $$$.

🔴 ok so its not some new invention but the fact that its Milwaukee and battery powered means it will replace my other extended ratchets. I might just sell my skil and extended ryobi and extended M12 ratchets because this replaces those. Sure i may never actually need the pass thru but when im using it and it just so happens to come in handy it'll pay for itself on the spot.

The most beautiful thing about the reversible socket other than the paddle being out of the way is how many times have you backed out a fastener and got in a bind and can't put it back forward cause the direction selector is against the body or frame if it is reversed you can still change the direction. Don't know if milwaukee thought about that but I did

While I'm all for innovation, and by all means this is innovative, not everyone needs to run out and buy this kit. Reason being, they can save a ton and buy a set of low profile sockets, and still be able to get their cordless ratchet to fit in those tight spots. Now, if you don't have a cordless ratchet or the one you have needs to be replaced, then this could be a top contender. This definitely has a lot going for it with the higger torque and speed settings, along with the pass through sockets for the smaller diameter sockets. Heck, in reality we aren't going to be performing a ton of high torque in 1/4 and 3/8 drive sizes anyway, plus we would be using a torque wrench to tighten them properly and more than likely a cheater bar to break them loose in the first place, so that's all irrelevant anyway. This tool is going to be a great tool in the overall line up.

Great review, finally got mine. It definitely helps in the engine bay! I saw the question asked several times about what size the ratchet head is. It's a 14mm. Since all the sockets are the same on the backside and the backside fits into the head; I checked different sizes until I got a fit between 14mm frontside and the back of any other socket. Follow up question: what 6 point style pass thru sockets would also fit in this ratchet knowing that it takes 6 point 14mm.

I am in the market for a new ratchet, I like the high speed 3/8 M12 one, but I also like this newer insider one. I am so glad you did this video because $300+ is a lot of money and I want the best bang my my bucks. I like the fact that you can change the anvil size and basically have 2 ratchets in one. I am not sure what one I should buy still. Has anyone here used this insider ratchet and have any thoughts on it over the 3/8 high speed version? I was also looking at the DeWalt 3/8 & 1/2 ratchet, I do not need the battery for either one so I am still on the fence. Need to talk to people who have used both and see what they think.

Mmm... dang that pass through socket is a big plus. I was about to buy the new DeWalt dcf500 sealed head because I liked the interchangeable anvil and ability to put a 1/4" hex collet on there so you can use driver bits. But this seems to have that plus that pass through and more with the flippable head for tight awkward spaces. I work as an electrician and also on my car too of course, and am no stranger to cramped areas or having the need to tighten a nut up through some long all thread. I gotta say the DeWalt seemed very well built and powerful but this just has everything and I'm sure Milwaukee has built it well enough.

I do like the concept here, but in my case I don't think it makes sense to switch to the Insider socket platform. I don't want to be forced into having a set of SAE and metric sockets for standard ratchets and socket wrenches, and then another set of sockets for the Milwaukee Insider. Maybe Milwaukee will come out with an Insider socket wrench so you would only need one style of sockets to use with both socket wrenches and battery powered ratchets. But until then, I prefer to keep my toolbox lighter and use non-proprietary sockets.
@markyb7875

you dont need insider sockets. You just need the insider anvil adapter then you can use any of your current sockets of any size you want from 1/4" up to 1/2". the ratchet handles all 3 socket sizes with the 3 anvil adapters. You already get 2 for free with the tool so you just need to buy the 1/2" anvil if you need it.

Good video, strongly disagree with power doesn't matter on a cordless ratchet tho, arc swing is terrible on cordless ratchets compared to hand ratchets so if im in a tight spot which is 95% of the time, YES i want the fucker to break free!

I would be very careful with using headers on the switch side !!! A collision of the head with the direction switch may occur! when unpacking the new ratchet, notice the sticker stuck on, which indicates where the heads should be inserted. I would be careful with giving misleading information.. 😀

Unless you need the pass through feature I say this is a no go. There's stubby sockets for those hard to reach areas that already solve the problem this is trying to fix. Having to switch the anvil to a new socket, and pop it back into the tool is just adding an extra step that will get annoying fast. Instead of pop one socket off and pop a new one off its... pop anvil out of tool, pop socket off anvil, pop anvil on new socket, pop anvil in tool.

Except this is a 1/4" and 3/8" ratchet all in one. Also, I have a high speed Milwaukee 1/4" ratchet and I've had to replace the head like 4 times because the retaining ball constantly falls out with heavy use. That problem would be much easier and cheaper to fix with this one.
@chrxx4327
@chrxx4327 10 ай бұрын
@@s0meguy809 it's only a 1/4 or 3/8 with an anvil adapter that snaps in place .. have you ever used a pass through ratchet before? The anvil will be removed every time you swap a socket, on top of that you will have to remove the anvil from the old socket and insert it into the new one. Which can often get stuck and require you to eject it with a pocket screw driver or similar... Talk about inefficient

@@chrxx4327 As long as the ball retainer isn't incredibly stiff, not a big issue. I use a snap on 1/4-3/8 adapter with my 1/4" Milwaukee all the time.

@@s0meguy809 I use an adapter all the time too. It's not apples to apples, the adapter is thick enough and knurled so I can hold it in place with my thumb and index while I swap sockets. The anvil on this sits flush in the body it's going to rip off every time you pull the socket out most likely unless it's very tight, but even then I see it wearing out with use

I wonder why they haven’t done pass-through all the way through 21mm if I had a set I could see my self boring out the rest.

The hex drive on the tool on the tool looks to be about 12mm across the flats. 16mm socket = M10 thread, add a little clearance and you'd have nothing left! The drive can't be much bigger, because that would make the head too big.

I guess a diesel shop who installs overly long fuel tank straps needs one of these tools! I mean unless you are hanging ceilings at the 7/11. Nope that won’t work either because they just spin those nuts down by hand it’s quicker. Who are they going to sell this thing to? So how many times have you actually used a pass through ratchet? Never! Toss it in the drawer with the Sears Robo Pliers and the Crescent RapidSlide adjustable wrench and the nail gun that uses 22 short blanks!

That's interesting that you feel that way. We definitely see their quality in the hand tools, but not so much in the power tools. We love a lot of their tools in the 14.4V lineup, but the pricing is still a hard pill to swallow along with the short warranty. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Snap On automotive power tools are in general barely competitive, even ignoring their price premium. They are the overall number 1 North American professional automotive hand tool company for sure (though there are several European companies who also make superb tools in this segment). Not by any means the number one power tool company. And no indication that is going to change. If anything, they are at greater risk of losing that business than ever before. Only recently has Snap On discovered brushless motor technology; they continue to lag the industry in power tool innovation. Their short warranty speaks volumes about their power tool reliability, and reluctance to support their customers in this category. It’s almost like they are afraid of backing products that aren’t just hunks of metal. To make matters worse, across YT we see examples of a wide range of attitudes from their truck guys, ranging from total support for their cordless products to finding any excuse to stiff you - there appears to be no consistent level of the company standing behind their power tools. Their tool truck business model seems to be working against them here. Batteries are unobtainable without access to that tool truck. And those are overpriced even compared to the general overpricing of batteries from everybody. Then you add in the tool price disparity, and alternatives like Milwaukee or even (gasp! ) DeWalt become attractive. If Snap On cordless tools are so great why don’t they only offer a 2-year warranty? Even HARBOR FREIGHT (!!!) is longer (Hercules). The compactness of Snap On’s cordless ratchet head was legitimately but briefly attractive, until industry at large caught up with that feature, and now surpassed them with equivalent or better designs. Milwaukee’s Insider is one example of being innovative in the low profile head design and the interchangeable anvil sizes, as well as the pass-thru feature, and bundling a socket set with the tool. Oh but then the company doesn’t get to sell you three sizes of ratchets, when one tool with three anvil sizes will do it. Bravo, score one for marketplace competition. Meanwhile I suspect Snap On’s R&D budget is being siphoned off to their executive bonuses, instead of them doubling down and increasing investments to meet the challenges of today’s competitive landscape. Too bad, though they do make fantastic wrenches. HF / Icon would never ever copy their Flank Drive Plus feature nor their alloy composition nor their hardening process. Nope, totally safe there. No reason whatsoever to step it up on innovating, just go get yourselves another summer home boys!
