When I purchased this, it came with a small container of distilled water to calibrate and then another greenish colored solution…the front label had washed away so I don’t know what this greenish solution was…I’m guessing a salinity checker-what is the stated salinity of this checker or calibrator, please?

It's just a reference solution of 1.025 sg to check calibration.

I have the same unit if you do not calibrate the unit before using it your salinity will be off about one point I have verified this time and time again with my sybon refractometer it's very accurate!! You should always have a backup refractometer to verify results and I have seen if you do not calibrate the Milwaukee refractometer you will be off about one point only use distilled water!!!!! to calibrate the unit. every now and then clean the glass with windex to get accurate results especially if you're getting an error message . I have had my Milwaukee refractometer for years they're very good units just keep them calibrated using only distilled water

Would u say this is better than the hanna hand held and ive heard u have to use there cal soulution and i hear that there soultions can be off from batch to batch u say u can use rodi water or distiled water can u explain further for this newbie thank u love your videos your helping me so much !!! You were so right on that plumbing video omg i ruined two unions and i was like not me how could u forget the other half well i did lol and i made pretty much all the mistakes u warned of but in the end i nailed it my fish are alive im curnently battling a bateria bloom and im nailing that as well its been a battle i have severe anxiety and adhd so i get super angery and frustraded with my self when i mess somthing up i also loose my concentration but your videos have guided me and helped so for that im greatful god bless u

Not sure but as a Hanna hand held owner. The Hanna checker is garbage. Mine would not hold the calibration. I would have to calibrate it every time I used it. And sometimes it wouldn’t give me accurate readings either. And with the Hanna checker you have to use their solution you can’t use distilled water like this Milwaukee device.

Just received mine. Why does reference solution reading at 1.027 instead of 1.025 as listed o the bottle?

For some reason after calibrating mine the calibration fluid reads 1.027 instead of 1.025? Is there a way to fix it or if not can I just subtract 0.002 from my reading and still be accurate?

Milwaukee 887 what's the difference between the black device and the Green device. Just asking before I purchase the checker. I.e the black one. Kind regards

Just the color. The green style is the older version, while the black is the most current color scheme.

Right out of the box it read the 1.000 fluid right at 1.000. It read the 1.025 fluid at 1.023. These results were the same after calibration. Is the meter wrong, or is it the solution? Who knows 🤷‍♂️ I’m going to order a regular refractometer. I guess it’s accurate +|- .002 sg 😂

I find there is no real need to calibrate it before every use. I check calibration every few months and it hasn't lost calibration yet in 4 years.

I find that very hard to believe in 4 years has not lost calibration I have the same unit and if you do not calibrate the unit you will be off one or two points I have verified this time and time again with my sybon refractometer which is very accurate!!!!!! If you have a second accurate refractometer to verify the results you will see that you are off a point or two it only takes a second to calibrate the unit using distilled water only. regular maintenance of this unit is to clean the Glass Lens with Windex from time to time As Told to me by the manufacturer

Out of all devices that need to be calibrated every time before use, this is not one of those.

This is probably the easiest refractometer to calibrate. If you wanted to calibrate every time, it could be done really quickly.
