At long last Milwaukee have released an M18 planer for their woodworking fans, the M18BP / 2623. It's got some great features, not least an excellent bevel/edge guide but is it a winner for Milwaukee?

Got this tool .... sure it's not as balls out like the common 240 volt ( mains power ) Makita ....but it's every bit as good , great tool . Super handy to carry up on a frame , do a quick job and pass it down again . Thumbs up Milwaukee . I use it daily on frames and buzzing doors , so handy to have , my corded Makita hasn't come out in ages .

Every other reviewer said there was no compromise with power. One set max depth on red oak and moved at a good pace with no bogging down. (tool craze)

Cheers guys, well done. I just bought mine, and I love it! Those marketing chaps over at Milwaukee sure know what they're doing. I'm practically throwing my money at them. One concern though, the fence. Why only one point of attachment? Surely it wouldn't be too much trouble to add another? there is much play on the backend of that fence, even when the screw is tight. Also, keeping up the theme of not enough fasteners, the side-to-side adjustment for the fence is held by one little wing nut. You've had it for a bit now, how has it fared in the past seven years? Anything too important fall off? -Aaron

just a thought but how come you don't mention the dust bag dos,not work, it clogs up almost immediately on mine and on yours too on this video, it's a pretty important part of the kit as it allows you to use the planer in a customers house,
@OZToolTalk
@OZToolTalk 8 жыл бұрын
+melsonby thanks for your comment! any dustbag will clog up when used like this, because the chips are too big. Mine wasn't 'clogged', it was full. I think dust bags are design for finer work (like taking off 0.25mm or 0.5mm slowly), to catch that fine dust. Don't bother with a dustbag if you're really chowing through some timber.

I see you"re putting poor Mike right to work Dwain. You two make a good team. Good to see you doing some videos together! Maybe you can tell me, are tools in Australia and Tasmania more expensive then here in the U.S.? I hear you guys pay quite a premium for tools down there. One thing I have noticed is the batteries you get have a higher amp hour rating then we typically get. I've been waiting for 5 amp/hour batteries for some Makita tools that were purchased last year and Makita USA tells me they still cannot get them.
@OZToolTalk
@OZToolTalk 8 жыл бұрын
+Terry Goyan Hey Terry, thanks for your kind words. I don't know that we pay a great amount more for tools by the time the average AUS/USA wages are taken into account. In general the US will get USA made tools (like Milwaukee & Dewalt) earlier. We tend to get earlier releases of European and Asian tools (Bosch, Metabo, Makita etc).

Hi Mike and Dwain! I love your video's but I think you need some more long term reviews. That's something I never see on KZbin. Carpenters and contractors are not only concerned with the performance of the tools when new but also how well they hold up to daily use. Tools in Action did a review of cordless drills in which they abused them till they failed. Dropped them off roofs, put them in water and sand. Really stupid stuff! This is not what I'm referring to! Anyone that owns tools hopefully takes good care of them. I was thinking more in line of extended REAL use, not abuse. Maybe do the performance and features reviews, then have a local contractor use the tool for 6 months, After that do a review of how well the tool worked in a professional use situation..... Thanks for all the good work guys! Good luck with the up coming winter down under. It's spring time here. Baseball season, go Giants!

Does anybody else find that the front plate is not level with the back plate for a proper flat plane? (edit: by which i mean, the front plate is tilted to one side) We've returned the first one and got a replacement but it seems they're all the same. Or is there a reason for that front plate to be off?
@OZToolTalk
@OZToolTalk 2 жыл бұрын
that's what a plane is supposed to be? at 0mm, they should be level, and as you increase the cut depth, the front plate should be raised.
@EvLoutonian
@EvLoutonian 2 жыл бұрын
@@OZToolTalk sorry, i should have explained - i mean it's tilted to one side. Perhaps I should edit the comment/question so that it makes more sense. We got this plane and you lose more on one side than the other, and this of course gets worse with each run across.

It is apparent that you are not using a genuine Milwaukee battery. Your battery has a big 4.0 on the side. Those are seen on ebay as aftermarket. There is truth to the fact that different quality cells have different current delivery outputs as well as some of the larger packs, like the 5.0 having a higher current output. This higher current output would give the necessary power to a motor to deliver higher performance. Same as if you used a 1.5-3.0 pack which only has one set of cells, rather than 2 sets in the 4.0 and up. 2 sets of cells means each set can provide 2x the current since there are 2 sets providing current in parallel as apposed to just one set. But again, the cheaper no name packs use cheaper cells which may have lower current delivery. Your comments about power may be the result of that and your review is not really accurate. Milwaukee uses one of the best cells in the industry, Samsung. Many other cells do not last as long as Samsungs, even when they have higher and sometimes very exaggerated and completely false ah claims. Again, I am sure the current delivery is in question as well. I think you should redo the review with a milwaukee 5.0 battery and clarify this fact.

+Ari P You are incorrect. In Australia, this is how Milwaukee 4Ah batteries are produced. A simple google search will show you this. This battery was purchased by myself from a bricks and mortar retailer, and other batteries are provided to us by Milwaukee.

+Ari P We tested this with 2Ah, 4Ah and 5Ah batteries, and all gave the same result. I've got a decent understanding of batteries already (though not perfect) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aabdXmaQodaXe9E
