I got Ridgid's new 2.0 drawer unit the other day for $119. I can put the roller hander on it and keep it at the bottom and still have a work surface with a $40 box on top of it. The rest of the boxes/crates get unstacked after wheeling them in. Boxes are also quite a bit lighter than drawer units and weight adds up. Drawers are nice but when you can get 3 boxes for the price of one drawer unit well..... yeah.

I was looking at your setup and trying to see how many boxes I can stack while still being able to use the top of it as well , I'm thinking 3 big boxes and the small one would be the highest I could go , I would like for Milwaukee to come out with a more versatile table top instead of the plain wood top they came out with .
@ChestnutRidgeWorkshop
@ChestnutRidgeWorkshop Жыл бұрын
The set of 3 boxes (either 2 or 3 drawer) is about the max height I think. I sometimes throw another small box on top just to move them, or secure it in the trailer, but that feels like I'm pushing the limits.

I have the Rigid and the stacking is no problem , I just have a small scaffold I put the boxes on and also I use the scaffold at times. The only problem is on a smaller job or apartment, unstacking and putting you boxes on the floor is both time consuming and it would be better to not have to spread them out and unstack them.. You'd think the engineers would field test them on a job site, and going from each customers job site , etc.

Ouch! I’m in deep with Ridgid with NO REGRETS. I did purchase the 2.0 and returned it the next day. It wasn’t worth the money imho. I’m definitely going to marry my Ridgid to packout. That’s the beauty of the packout. You can actually do that, perhaps make a plate to marry your existing system to packout if you decide to continue to purchase storage boxes or drawers etc. It could be done, but one box needs to be the sacrificial lamb, so use the cheapest one for that purpose. Crate seems to be the most logical, I believe

I'm considering the drawer system. I noticed the padlock holes when it was announced and that didn't make sense then either. It might make sense if there was at least some metal in there, but as you note, the whole tote is easy to carry off and would be easy to defeat at one's leisure. I want big wheels and a pull handle like their rolling toolbox but needing to unstack to get inside and the handle not being fully collapsable is a turn-off.

I have the tough system 2.0 and even though the packout looks great, I can't see my self switching. My coworker has the packout and he complains that his organizer can't hold the same amount of screws as the my dewalt organizers so he had to buy another set of organizers, also i have the trays with the foam inserts and my tools are perfectly organized and easy to find and get to, my coworker says he wishes packout had something similar, because he has to dig through his tools to find what he needs. Last thing, I've had my tough system for 2 years with no issues, my friend had his packout for 7 months and already one of his wheels broke and the latch of one his main boxes broke off as well.

I'm not even remotely surprised to see someone switching from ToughSystem to Packout. I've been a DeWalt guy for just over 10 years and have at least one of every single 1.0 and 2.0 ToughSystem box along with a large selection of XR cordless tools. A colleague invested in a number of Packout boxes last year, and now has a lot of the drawer units as well. They are hands down a better design than the DeWalt system. DeWalt have been asleep at the wheel for years now, not just on storage solutions but also on their range of cordless tools. Every time I went to buy a new DeWalt box over the past couple of years, I've wondered if it was finally time to throw in the towel and switch to Packout. Then the 2.0 range came along and I thought I'd give them a second chance. The TS 2.0 has definitely got improvements, but in my opinion the Packout range is still better designed and implemented. I think 2023 will see me gradually switch across to Milwaukee for on-site mobile storage and I'll probably keep the DeWalt boxes in my workshop.

Same here my brother, I’m a DeWalt guy for life. Milwaukee tools feel like oversized diodos. I just recently got into drawers. I tried Tstak specially for the price. They seem to be discontinuing them so not good if I want to keep getting more. Then the packout deal came out, $90 off from a $300 purchase. And I was BLOWN AWAY by the quality. Oh btw I’m a Ridgid tool box owner. Also I retired when COVID came out so I transformed my 16’ trailer into my work shop. But now I’m gonna remove all the plywood compartment I made so I can just store everything into my tool boxes. I’m planning on hanging everything on the walls so the day I want to upgrade, or sale my trailer all I have to do is stack up and move everything out. Clean “expensive” 🤦🏻‍♂️ and simple, but well worth it. Also working on a way to marry my Ridgid tool boxes with my new packout collection. I now have the option to only purchase anything needed when there is a sale, since I’m “retired” I find I’m more busy now doing things I actually ENJOY! I take care of our local park and do handyman work for those who also help our community at no cost to them. Just coffee and a sandwich and it’s cool with me. I now enjoy the gratitude and recognition from the neighbors more then any payday I made in the past. I’m 45 years old and have been fortunate to become free from the rat race! Advice, invest into rental properties, I now have 4 homes free and clear providing me with a living wage. Work hard and save you money when young, invest and retire young so you can still be productive. And yes, I still drive an old pickup 😂 be wise with your purchases and live within your means. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 Best of luck to you all, thanks for the video, very relatable to my experience with my new packout. FUCKING LOVE THEM!

Wow this is probably the most useful, kindest, and informative comment ever! I can't possibly do it justice with my reply! Thanks so much for watching, and taking the time to write this. I'm right there with you on everything you said. Working towards getting a rental property going too! The tools, storage, shops, trailers, and general organization is a truly never ending process. As tools evolve, our work flows shift, and we contantly chase efficiency improvements, everything is temporary setup.

@@ChestnutRidgeWorkshop dude! Thank you so much! I was afraid I was rambling on unrelated subjects but I wish us hard working honest guys and gals success. And willing to share with anyone that wishes to listen how to hopefully get there. There are many roads to financial freedom, Real estate was the one that did it for me. It makes me happy when someone thrive in their field. You are 💯 correct on everything kinda being a temporary setup bc we are constantly chasing that perfect efficiency. (I think I flipped the order of thought) 😂 So instead of building customs storage it best to just go with these stackable system imho. This way we are not attached to the place in which we do our work, but rather be attached to our portable, already organized tools. It’s not the cheapest option but it sure makes your life a lot easier and less complicated. Thanks again for the kind words 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

At 7:00 you literally can see the 3 stack of drawer cabinets swaying side to side, you actively notice it, and stop moving the cases. 😂 Definitely a disadvantage to setting the drawer cases up in this manner.

Yes I noticed very early they feel a bit flimsy in this stack. I think with a lot of weight, 2 boxes is the limit for stack height. That said, I've been running this setup for several months now and not a single issue.

Doesnt look ideal for in the job site no dolly to pull around

For me there's not a ton of job site use. But when there is I don't use a dolly anyway because it's in finished homes. You can put these on a normal moving dolly.

@@inrptn No its not because it's not made by China they're made by Keter and made in Israel, North America or Europe I think they make all the boxes for Dewalt, Milwaukee, Craftsman, Ryobi and Ridgid and other companies, the tool companies don't make much money off the tool boxes that's why they cost so much
