It is crazy how of all those species of octopuses and cuttlefish, only two of them take shapeshifting to the next level. I’ll never not be surprised by this extraordinary creature.

I love mimic octopuses. Also, I can't help but giggle every time I hear "Wonderpuss." It sounds like a Hannah Barbara cartoon character.

A thing I think about all the time is if far-future paleontologists only knew about the mimic octopus from fossils they would never in a million years guess it could do all this stuff. Makes you wonder what incredible abilities extinct animals might have had that we'll never know about!
@crayonzii2 күн бұрын
I often think about this as well! Along with some unique appearances and sounds that present day animals have/make.

As discussed in the video, the wonderpuss is commonly mistaken for a mimic octopus, EVEN IN THIS VIDEO! 6:00 This is a wonderpuss mimicking a sea snake here.

I don't remember watching a single Animalogic video with a sponsor so hearing Danielle do one feels surreal
@gmaxsfoodfitness30353 күн бұрын
I've noticed their recent videos have sponsors. The spots aren't too bad though so I'm not bothered by it and it's nice they can tie it into the content in some way like catching a lionfish in the sponsored game that the mimic octopus can also mimic.
@ps7ykLiTT3 күн бұрын
She's been having a lot of Betterhelp sponsor segments over the last year or two though? I just found this particular one a bit jarring since she usually doesn't do video game sponsors, if ever at all (until now).

I had a thought the other day: We see so much intelligence from the Octopus BUT imagine how far they could upgrade if they could pass on their knowledge to future generations? Currently they live very short lifes and die before ever getting to interact with their children. So it's even more mind blowing thet have been capable of achieving what they do when they live such sort lifes and have no one to help them learn in the short period of time that is their lifecycle

Just as with one of the main characters in Spinward Fringe, I forget their name, they're Issyrian. They struggle with human faces too, usually exaggerating the size of the eyes and smile. EDIT: "Agameg" is their name.

I wonder how they can process all that pattern information like when they mimic a rock 07:37. They cannot see the entire surface they are matching all at once. Do their brains just sample the most distinct areas changes and copy that roughly? That is a really amazing evolutionary process.

I cannot understand how people can eat these creatures... There is a reason why some scientists predict they would inherit the earth should humans disappear. Their intelligence is astounding. Loved the ending, btw.

That is extremely ignorant. No scientists seriously think that! Octopuses live very short lives and don't pass on knowledge to their offspring.

I love this octupus but I gotta be honest. I'm getting kind of tired of every animal youtuber and their grandma talking about it. There's never anything new said about it: -It's related to the common octopus we all know about. -It uses mimicry to avoid predation -It ChAnGeS sO QuIcKlY! -It also mimics its other animals behaviours Like yes its an amazing animal no doubt. But we get it already. LOL
@gmaxsfoodfitness30353 күн бұрын
This is literally the first video I've seen on it and if you read the comments it's the same for many others. I don't care that other channels have done it. This is the first time for Animalogic who's been asked to do a video about it for 9 years (see the oldest comments on screen when she asks what animal they should cover next).
@ChrispyNut3 күн бұрын
MAYBE they didn't exist before the 90s, because like the other Octopoda, they're Aliens who come here for, presently unknown reasons.
