One of the things I have found while riding my Transalp is that mindfulness also reminds me of how privileged I am. Privileged to have a body that works well enough to ride a motorbike, to be able to afford a motorbike, to live in a place with nice scenery, where it is pleasurable to ride at least half of the year and so on. It's easy to forget these things and take all the good things one experiences for granted, moan about less important things and/or just let life run through ones fingers like sand. Looking forward to the next one, may it be somewhat less windy!

That is a great way to view life 👍 Being grateful for what we already have, I find being mindful just makes everything so much more simple and I actually enjoy the ride 10x more. You are completely right, most of the time we are just on auto pilot coasting through life. This can be especially bad when you get into a negative mindset rhythm. It is soooo good to be more mindful every moment of the day. That was one of the windiest days I have seen for a while! It didn't completely come across on the camera, it was wild!! Great day though. Cheers

Without sounding cliche I enjoy the freedom to go places where one doesn't normally go in daily mundane existence. Since I retired I have more time to contemplate my existence than when I was struggling to make the almighty dollar and riding makes it even more mindful. Taking the time to fully enjoy the moment makes it a better experience.

Exactly 👍 I find that as well (not the retired bit haha 😉) since I enjoy riding my motorbike so much, I go to places that I would probably never visit with out riding. I find every aspect of life gets better the more present and in the moment I am. Cheers

Sums up beautifully the joy of riding a motorcycle!! It's not about the speed for some , it's the journey to the destination and feeling a part of the scenery. Beautiful island and the church 😍

A very nice, natural intro to meditation, Gus. I think most people think meditation is some kind of spiritual weird woo-woo thing, but it's, essentially, just stopping thinking and trying to relax fully? Resting your brain.
@redangrevival

Thanks David, yes that is pretty much it. I am by no means an expert but that is what it is about really. Stopping and trying to relax the mind without all the distractions.

Hi Angus, so one of the things my late father taught me while riding was to provide commentary on everything you are seeing when riding. It was part of his police motorcycle training and I find it really makes you focus on what’s coming into your field of vision and keeps you aware of hazards as they appear. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and posting, keep up the good work and stay safe out there…

Hi Jez, thanks that is a good tip to hear. I suppose that is basically what I do, but great to hear that your father was taught that in police training. Must mean I am doing the right thing!! It is a great technique for staying safe and happy. Thanks and same to you 👍

Great video. Great message. I ride with the continual mindset of 'what if." Which in practice means 'what can they do, what can the environment do, verses what can I do". Hopefully then I am never surprised and already have a plan of what I will do if the worst happens. Panic is the enemy of a motorcyclist. Plus,'what if' keeps you focused on the ride and not trying to solve all the other problems in the world while riding along. mindfulness 101.

Great video once again. The bleakness of The Isle of Sheppy is it's attraction. I would take issue with one thing you said. "I took a wrong turn." There are no wrong turns when exploring. When on a pleasure ride I rarely have a firm destination fixed in my mind. More like a vague direction, but I allow the road to take me where it will. I have found many beautiful places and roads simply because, "Ohh! That lane looks interesting. " Keep up the good work Gus. Looking forward to your continued adventures.

Many thanks Paul, I appreciate it 👍 Yes I warmed to the Island as the day went on, a beautiful place to explore. Absolutely fair enough, that is a great point! In the end it turned out to be the correct turn, as I found some beautiful places. Cheers

Haha I know, I was so pleased to find some food and a coffee!! Also like you say, the beauty of biking, you can be happy anywhere. I recommend visiting, perhaps check the weather forecast before, as I imagine it could get pretty bleak on a bad day.

That bridge is a lot scarier to look at than it is to drive over but in that wind, wow 🌬💨 Thank you for explaining mindfulness. I'm quite good at that during the day but my house move is imminent now and I am beset by night terrors. I will try the meditation techniques and the breathing exercises I use for panic attacks. I will also run through your journey on those islands, they are gorgeous. Cheers!

Yup it is a big bridge, I wasn't expecting it. A shame the wind didn't come across on camera, it was soooo windy!! I am sorry to hear that, moving house can be stressful even when you are feeling ok. It must be hard. I highly recommend trying mindfulness, just sit in a quiet room and try focusing on your breath. It can be tricky when you are feeling bad though. Good idea, just watch some nice videos. I hope you can get the move done asap. Take care, all the best 🙌

Tried the "what can you hear/smell/feel" meditation last night and success! First good nights sleep for weeks. Still woke up but off again really quickly. Mind you the solicitor phoned at 9am to say it would be in the next two weeks, and I had a full blown attack 😂 I do want to go really, this house is no longer a sanctuary, it feels like a prison but my body isn't cooperating 😩

@@lilynorthover8378 Good for you 👍 That is so good to hear that it helped, keep at it. Even when you don't feel like it, keep practicing the mindfulness. I suppose that is life, you can't control when the solicitor will ring 😂 Maybe try a small meditation every day until you move house? All the best

Re. Mindfulness, I tend to have an inner monologue of what I'm doing and seeing when riding, but can neglect how it feels and how I feel, so that's good info, Gus. When you think "be in the moment" you might forget to actually recognise and note to yourself what it's like and how you feel, which is, apparently, important to the technique? So, not just "I'm riding up on to a bridge. It's windy, so I'm leaning in and being careful of gusts", but also "the wind is cold and fresh and I can feel it rushing over me even through my jacket" and "I'm actually feeling a little nervous and apprehensive, but gaining confidence as I realise I'm coping fine. I realise I'm a little tense so I'm intentionally taking a big breath and relaxing". That kind of thing. Is that right?
@redangrevival
@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
That is exactly right, and by doing that it will naturally bring you into the moment more. Whatever is happening in that very moment, that is where the mind should be. When you realise this it is actually quite funny how much the mind wanders and thinks about things and you are not present at all. Takes a lot of practice!

I would say it should be ok for you. I think any taller than 6ft then I would possibly consider something bigger. Highly recommend taking one for a test ride to see. I would say 6ft is the limit, for comfort reasons 👍

I'm 6'3" and find my Speedy absolutely comfortable all day long. In a perfect world, the forward controls could do with being another few inches further forward, but it's not a deal breaker at all. With a tank range of 120 ish miles you're never going to be in the saddle too long anyway. Think of your favourite arm chair, add some wheels and an engine, that Sir, is the Soeedmaster!
