I stumbled on this podcast while searching on KZbin. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by these guys. I am an overweight 30-something year-old female and I have struggled with sticking to a weight loss program for pretty much my entire adult life. On first glance, you assume that these guys are a bunch of “meat heads” but when you actually listen to the podcast, you hear how truly insightful they are. They give great information and facts without belittling people. That’s a win for me.

Thank you for teaching me about Orthorexia. It has helped validate my experiences over the years, and I am now working on taking my control back, so that I am less controlling in a dysfunctional way and learn a healthy sense of control that allows me to embrace food choices instead of restricting them. Last year I was participating in a fitness challenge that I told myself was more for me and if I were to win, that would just be an added bonus to improving my health. But then I found myself feeling like I was disappointing myself. One day I broke down and cried while looking at a restaurant menu's nutrition info, feeling like I couldn't even go out to dinner with my boyfriend because I'd surpass my macros and would be cheating my goals. I feel I have come so far after coming to terms with falling into an unhealthy mentality about competing in this challenge and proving something to myself, to the fitness community, to my partner, etc. Mind Pump has enlightened me about my approach and so many other aspects of health and fitness.

The lady who called in and mentioned her son who passed brought me to tears because my brother passed away last year and he too was a personal trainer after over coming addiction. When I listen to you guys it reminds me of him sometimes and when he’s make me stop at his club after school and I’d hang out with the trainers in the break room and do my homework. Great memories for me

It's definitely true that working out can become an obsession and your entire identity. I've found this to be even more true with age, wanting to push harder to hold onto youth. It's been a lifelong struggle for me to find balance with it because I've been into training and athletic performance since I was 15. Now, at 43, I've had to abandon regular conditioning modalities, scale back intensity, and focus more on longevity and health. It's tough to let an athletic mindset go.
@michaelstone97019 ай бұрын
I have heard Peter Attia and a couple of others say that sometimes the best strategy for this mindset is to focus on a new goal: becoming the most buttkicking 80 year old possible. It taps into that competitive spirit, but helps the individual figure out that their actions now need to have a long-term payout, which includes optimizing the various stresses on the body (maximizing the signal to preserve or increase strength and fitness, while minimizing wear and tear on joints, for example).

Huge fan of this pod.. I became a dad about 2 months after Sal had his second son and to hear you guys talk about parenting and wanting to be better dads and have that be your legacy over personal achievement really hit me and made me think. I think this is the most well rounded healthy pod cast and you guys have helped me change my perspective on working out and staying fit it is still important to me but I'm flexible about when I do it. It does not come first all the time and has benefited me being a better dad and husband. I am so grateful for everything you guys provide. Plus I sucked at programming but thanks to MAP programs I don't have to worry. I wish you guys nothing but the best and to Adam the guy that gave you shit I agree f**k that guy!

This podcast though! You guys are helping so many people including myself wade through the insane amount of confusing and conflicting information out there. I applaud and thank you for that! My name is Jen I’m 43 years old, have been somewhat fit most of my life including athletics when I was young. Did years of 15 minute KZbin videos and hit workouts with light dumbbells and that served me ok during those years. They are no longer getting me results. I think it’s from years of fasting in an attempt to heal my gut, I’ve always suffered with bloating. I tried carnivore for a few months felt great and have come off of that as I cannot sustain it. My gut still feels good but I’ve gained 12 lbs that I can’t seem to get rid of. Perimenopause may also be a factor. I am working my way through the RPG bundle (finished anabolic and halfway through performance) but noticing one sided weakness and pain here and there from injuries sustained over the years. Should I switch over to symmetry and correct the problem before moving on? Also I’m eating about 2000 cal a day and finding it very difficult to eat more than that with as much protein as I am eating (130g). Do you have any tips or advice on getting in extra calories to try to correct my metabolism so I can eventually go on a cut? I should mention I am getting stronger and pretty sure I’m putting on muscle and have gained another 5 lbs since starting your programs. I actually weighed the other day and was shocked the scale went up because by looking at my body I thought I had lost weight. Thank you for considering my question and keep up all you do!

My husband is in law enforcement and rarely do they arrest someone after they do a raid. The exception being if a child or someone is found to be in immediate harm or danger. It takes so long to process all of the evidence, for everyone to write the reports and to obtain and arrest warrant from the DAs office/judge. Once charges are brought then they get arrested at a later date or sometimes not until they’re convicted.

On point as always. That is such a hard conversation to have with someone if their training has become and obsession. Especially if you struggle with your own limits and/or overtraining. I truly heard Adam when he was having his talk with his son. When my daughter gets mad that she has to work harder at things than other people, I remind her we don't come from weak stock. I recall for her how all our ancestors came to this country as immigrants and hard work pays off. I tell her no one can do anything with talent that won't work.

So as a "type A" personality that has gone too hard and burned out and stopped time and time again it's been really helpful to me to actually schedule rest and relaxation. It feels silly like AGGRESSIVELY relaxing (i said Type A and i meant it, lol) but it truly helps to just say this is what i'm supposed to be doing, a sort of Active Rest if that makes sense. I don't naturally make space for rest so i have to really be firm with myself about it.

It’s so true that we tend to become obsessive about our workouts. I used to sacrifice sleep to get up early to get it in on busy/ high stress days. Not I’ve learned the power of sleep to recover and balance that stress. And I need to check my moods. I’ve learned to let go of daily workouts, but I still get edgy if I miss a planned day. That’s a sign my obsession is still there under the surface. On another note- I had a tapeworm in my 20s. I was having gut issues for months, and only figured it out when I pooped out a segment of it 😅

I had 9 parasites, was eating raw fish 3x per week at our local sushi place near my work. I was blacking out at the gym, losing weight rapidly, and could feel my body being taken over. I met a healer who did frequency zapping over 3 months and it saved my life. That was 15 years ago and I do not eat raw meat or seafood to this day. She told me "O" blood type people are the only people that can tolerate eating raw. I was a huge skeptic but no longer!

So I have a similar issue as the last woman you helped with her issue with her sciatic nerve. My problem is that I am not able to cross my legs and haven't been able to for years. For a long time I would get a pain, that feels like it is in the tendon of my left leg right at the crotch area and sometimes it would get 'stuck' when sitting and I could feel it sort of 'snap' when I would stand and try to work. My doctor couldn't figure it out and I tried physical therapy and they really couldn't find 'the sweet spot' to hit the problem area. I started doing the 90/90 stretch and combat stretch (to help with my squat depth) but it does hit that area a little bit so I'm willing to try anything. I also have osteoarthritis in my knees which doesn't help when trying to do some of these stretches. I have been back to working out consistently 5-6 days a week since early January ( I used to work out religiously in my 20's lifting heavy - I maxed my bench press at 175lbs at 9 months pregnant, of course I was 19 so that helped, lol...) I've always loved working out and being strong and my new favorite workout shirt says it all about me... I DON'T WANT TO LOOK SKINNY, I WANT TO LOOK LIKE I CAN KICK YOUR ASS!

De-loading every 2-3 months is key. You won't lose any muscle size as many studies shown (the minimum maintenance volume is 30%, meaning you would still keep all muscle size even if you reduce volume to 30%) Are you following the bro split?
