One big thing that the Captain missed is that hopper minecarts actually empty these insanely fast. Like, almost instantly.

Brilliant idea that just came to my head: Mojang should make it possible to enchant the pots with the cursed enchantments like Binding and Vanishing and Imma tell you why: Binding: Once an item enters the top or is placed manually by a player, the pot will ALWAYS hold at least one of that item within itself and never dispense it unless the pot is shattered or broken to retrieve the item within. This makes auto sorting systems much easier and redstone free, all you need is a bit of enchanting UNLUCK or just make it possible to put a pot item in the enchanting table one at a time and then enchant at a low or high level to get the corresponding curse desired. Vanishing: ANY items inserted to the pot through dropping on top of being input through a hopper or container will be destroyed immediately like a modded 'void chest'. This makes it possible to shrink down sorting systems EVEN FURTHER by not needing to make space for a cactus or fireproofing your system to put a lava source in there to destroy the unwanted 'junk'. Additional Functionality: Allows the pots to accept items through their open tops like a hopper, but if a player shift right clicks the jar it will CLOSE the lid and prevent that functionality from happening. This means if you had a 'Vanishing Void Pot' and didn't want it to be active anymore for whatever reason, you could just shift click it to close the lid instead of breaking it. Also since you can break the pots by hand without shattering them, this would retain the enchantment on the item itself and allow you to place it back down just the same as before, but hitting it with an arrow, weapon, or maybe even anvil, would shatter it into its 4 pieces, removing the enchantment and forcing you to reapply it. Optional Map Idea: It would also be pretty cool if you could put lingering or splash potions into them and make them 'trapped pots' so when a player breaks them the potion inside breaks with the pot and activates the proper effect assigned to it. The idea mimics the function of certain crates within games like Resident Evil 4 or RE7 Biohazard where some of them explode because they were boobytrapped.

fence off the player so you're far from the pots, give the player some allays that match the prizes so when you successfully hit a pot and an item falls out, the allay goes and retrieves it to you!

Yeah just an idea - but its defo useful for item sorting: You put 1 item in, say a diamond. Lock the hopper below. A signal strength reads as one. More items go into it. The signal increases - and eventually it can unlock the hopper (redstone torch inverter thing). Items pass through until the signal strength no longer reaches the redstone torch inverter. Hey presto - item sorter without filler items in hoppers, etc.

Yeah, but won't that clog the hopper above with all the items you're not sorting? Cause if the hopper is leading into the pot what will take the things we don't want out of the hopper. Maybe if you can feed items to the side of a pot, and then have a locked hopper under the correct one, which periodically unlocks... Or something like that. EDIT: when I've thought about it, it could be done if you have the hopper line one above the other and then have them pointing sideways towards the pots. Have all the hoppers locked and then unlock them in order top to bottom. It'll be significantly slower then a classic sorting system... but IDK maybe it's possible to be more compact, and it'll be vertical if that brings you any bonus points in what you're building.

@@vrawl5461 I did not meant different types of items in one pot, just keep it one type of item per pot, just with increased capacity in that one slot the pot has, just like a 1x1 Drawer works. That way, in case a hopper wants to push/pull it only has to check one slot instead of all the slots a chest may have. Not really sure how the stack size is handled, but it could probably be tweaked (for the pot storage), as many mods are able to change it

If the pots are moveable with sticky pistons while keeping an inventory, then the carnival game can have a cheeky little random timer that drops it behind a wall of other blocks for a bit. More or less, I'd say you've covered everything. The thing that makes a typical sorter effective is being able to block unwanted stuff from sorting into the wrong channel. In the case of inventories bigger than one slot, you would typically have to put a named thing in that doesn't slip into the hopper because it is incompatible. Because of this, there's always a small buffer of the things that go into the system that stay there for the purpose of channel control, iirc. The pots might actually be able to reduce some of the necessary redundancy by being just one slot pockets that can interact with hoppers. 🤔

this can literally revolutionize the super sorters so you don't need to have wooden swords and then the item you just replace all of the chests in your standard super sorter for pots and you save yourself the hassle of crafting wood swords or naming leaves!

There's a cool way you could make a puzzle using these. Set up a scenario that looks similar to a hopper item sorter (where the hopper tries to take items out of the pot until it reaches a low enough redstone signal level to activate the hopper, stopping it from taking EVERYTHING out). Since you can't put multiple different items into the pot, it will ONLY allow you to put items in if you have MORE of the same item. By putting the correct item in, the hopper gets deactivated, pulling the item through into a collection chamber that marks the puzzle as complete. Then, use the shards to create pictures on the pot that hint at the item you need to put inside. As long as the player is in adventure mode and doesn't doesn't have access to items which can break it, you can create locks that REQUIRE you to solve the puzzle to open, since you can't open the GUI to just look at the needed item beforehand.

I think it’d be super cool if they added some functionality based on what’s inside, like gunpowder doing a scaled explosion based on how much is in the jar when a red stone signal is applied, or redstone in the jar passing a specific strength signal based on how much is in the jar, etc.

Hey Cap! I just wanted to pop in and see how things are going. I haven't watched in a while because of the whole growing up thing... Been seeing some videos around that brought back a ton of memories as a kid, and you were one of the OG Minecrafters that popped into my head. I'm super happy to see that you are still making Minecraft content!! There's a ton of us that grew up watching your channel, eagerly awaiting the next upload! I just want to say one thing: You impacted not just my life, but hundreds of thousands of our lives! Time sure does fly, but it keeps moving forward. The one thing that I will NEVER forget is the Fallen Kingdom series with Fallen Kingdom, Take Back the Night, Find the Pieces, and Dragonhearted. I still listen to them to this day! These would be really cool in a survival game. Like, imagine you have limited resources and at one stage you’re presented with a bunch of pots, each containing some kind of loot, some good some terrible. You have maybe three arrows and you know they’re useful in combat but you might get something good from that pot. So you pick a pot at random and the loot is either delivered to you, via a water system maybe, or drops on your head. Though I don’t think the dropping works cuz they you have your arrow back which defeats the purpose. Maybe with snowballs

I'm wondering if Jardonicus has heard of a mod called, Chunklock. It was made by AvidMC. He has a KZbin channel. Chunklock is where you are locked into the spawn chunk and must pay a number of an item to use a neighboring chunk. It gets tricky in being able to gather items. There are difficulty settings.

They should make it if you stack gunpowder into a pot, a flame bow can set it on fire like tnt and by the amount of gunpowder inside the pot, it increases the crater of the explosion

In theory you could use pots to sort stackable and non stackable items. Because stackable items would allow redstone output of 1, while non stackable would go straight to max. Set that up right it could be a very useful sorting component.

You could make it a real carnival game by putting the pots behind several flying machines that are slightly desynced so they occasionally have a one block gap you can shoot through to hit one of the pots, but the rest of the pots are accessible. Small prize that would be cheaper to buy outright for three pots , big prize for five pots that only the most patient marksman will get

If you just have it hooked to comparators, it's read-only memory as you can't read it without breaking it. But you can have hoppers read and write. But in both cases, it's protected memory because you can't see what's inside without breaking it!

I am developer of the Archeology Mod (wattles did a review on it) where pots did similar thing, and even though this idea is obvious and on the surface, I am from now on going to complain that Mojang stole my idea, especially since they stole rightfully mine typo of the word archaeology in one of their articles

Also, I was mad at them for originally making them completely useless aside from decorating, but now I am satisfied. Although pots in my mod do have more functionality, I actually think Mojang's implementation is pretty good now. Though I'm still salty about them not adding the hardening and placing sherds directly onto the uncooked pot!!! Making them in crafting table is lame as hell

I think you should be able to detonate pot containing gun powder or tnt (the amount of items inside affects explosion power (it has to be limited or else the amount of lag would be incredible) and maybe you could put lingering potions inside to make for example poison cloud

Pots would be a great scoring system for games. You can only put one item in them, if they get started with a diamond and players are in adventure and can't break the pot then boom, they can add diamonds, making comparator go up, until full and then they win (or whatever). Stops you needing a sorting system on a chest to stop people dumping dirt.

Idk if it is able to, mostly likely not, but if the pot is able to be pushed by a piston this would open the door for a lot of red stone machines I feel like. I think it’s not great for sorting bc either way ur going to be using essentially the same system with locked/limited hoppers.
