I did a similar thing a while ago, after cubicmetre's huge binary beacon video. It was a 127*7 color design with a feed tape with 7 colors and 7 layers stacked on top of each other, and the top 6 layers had a system to shuffle the two currently active colors back and forth. It was a bit less compact because I was 0-ticking everything to get instant seamless color transitions and my 0tick module wasn't particularly compact, but it worked. I also had a smaller one with 7*15 colors which had both a color cycle mode and a manual input with buttons and a lectern to set a specific color.

In Bedrock you don’t even have to worry about the flashing default beacon beam!… because beacon beam colour changes take inconsistently multiple seconds. Seriously though I love this. I find binary in Minecraft fascinating, and I love how you can see it so clearly here in such a beautiful way. I built the regular non-mechanical rainbow strip in creative (Bedrock) awhile back, and I really wanted to try make a single colour changing beacon beam, but I ran into the aforementioned problem fairly quickly while building a feed tape design. I got excited when I saw this, even though I knew it wouldn’t work on Bedrock, but I just love your videos anyway. I held onto a bit of hope that it might somehow work on Bedrock, but then you started talking about zero tick nonsense so I knew it was hopeless. Great video as always
@spacefun1015 ай бұрын
It is very possible on bedrock, and even easier. The beacon does not update randomly, but rather exactly once every 4 seconds. This means that as long as the glass is not moving when it updates it works. Only downside is that you can’t really get quick, smooth transitions.

@tortoise-chan5 ай бұрын
@kacpergryba2307 well, the beacons shown at 9:35 are cycling through preset sequences of colors. The sequences in question are from pride flags, not designed by squibble per se. And if you have a sequence, like blue-pink-white-pink-blue for example, making a smooth beacon is just a matter of making transitions for each pair of adjacent colors in the sequence. The process of doing that is essentially just iterating through the possible permutations of stained glass, which he demonstrated in his previous video

Thank you for the mention. I usually pronounce it 'Tefar, so you got it right. I hope you don't mind if i add a link to this video from my old ones, these are more fun for sure. My designs were mostly an exercise in trying to make a contraption that was unload safe, plus figuring out the 1 tick skew per 10 vertical blocks.
@squibble1114 ай бұрын
Yeah, unload safe is certainly something these designs are not. i wonder if it would be possinle to make a hybrid feedtape ststem that is.
@ptefar4 ай бұрын
@@squibble111 In theory I think it could be, I think. There seemed to be two main types of issues that I tried to handle: One was losing scheduled future activations which led blocks to be in the wrong place, mostly handled by blocking double pushes by obsidian or push limit and recovering from the stall when there was no air block to push into. The second was the layers getting out of sync. The only way I found that was to make sure that any update was done on the same tick. In the case of a hybrid feed tape I think it can be possible to update the states of the counters and the block swapper on the same tick. Would be an interesting excercise. Peter Jiangs machine is pure witchcraft. Link added to this video from mine.
