Minecraft's 'Horror' Mods... Aren't Scary?

this is the RAWEST video I have ever uploaded. On a random Driday night, at 11:30 pm, I decided to sit down and have a monologue about the recent minecraft horror mods that have been going viral. Just in case this video blows up and my opinion pisses some of you off, feel free to let the steam out in the comments. Anyways, enjoy :)

The one mod I think is actually scary is the parasites mod. What it does that is actually scary is that it's a rising, actual threat, that's lurking and can just jump out, but it's not over the top, not constantly in your face.

I have played that and everytime I hear an adapted parasite it really terrifies me because they can just straight up bust into my house through everything and destroy chests and all my stuff.

Original from the fog is just cute. Herobrine is like that awkward, socially inept guy who wants to confess his feelings but doesn’t know how or doesn’t dare to so he just awkwardly stares at you and shyly runs away once you look directly at him 😂

The other issue is how endless minecraft is. Though if we want a really scary pack we would need to go back to the roots on what made Minecraft creepy, the very environment that allowed the rumors of herobrine. You don't need the much more soundtracks because Minecraft already has it. Also amptophere is the most effective way of dealing with horror, only sprinkle in jumpscares and for a game like Minecraft, less is more. needs to be subtle not in your face.

This is a really good concept and I would too love to see something made this way. Though the whole dweller trend is not ending anytime soon so I sadly don't think many will see this type of mod.

i think the sanity mod is one of the most horrifying mods i have ever seen. some are spoopy, some startle you, but the sanity mod is genuinely HORRIFYING

Try out the manbear when it comes out, it's really good for that ambience/subtlety. There's a few hidden gems that focus on that too out there

If you really want to test these “dweller” mods, then you should lessen the amount you have install. Specifically From the Fog, the Evolved/Enhanced/Reimagined Cave Dweller, the Man from the Fog (preferably version 1.0.0 or 1.1.0, all versions after that are a fever dream), the Midnight Lurker, and maybe the One Who Watches (though TOWW does get a bit too extreme the more you play). Also, the reason the animals didn’t have eyes was probably because you installed the Fresh Animations resource pack without Optifine. Also the Goatman isn’t connected to that biome.

If you have every mod at once it's obviously gonna get less scary especially when goatman is there playing noises and chasing you eveey second, then when a noise that isn't so common and is actually creepy plays, it doesn't feel as scary.

the yeti mod has some potential if it builds up over time, also the one who watches got updated and is way better than it was before, i belive if dweller mods don't make so many noises and don't throw everything at you at once and actually stalk the player and build up tension and build up over time and then when you least expect it would apear and scare the shit outa the player and make noises not so frequently that would actually be so much better

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that this is closer to thriller, as someone else mentioned. Adding onto that, I think that thriller weaponizes your fight or flight, while horror weaponizes your imagination.

there are scary mods and horror mods, horror mods have the monsters that attack and stuff, and the scary mods make you paranoid, stuff like scary shaders, scream sounds and stuff, no monster but you feel like you are NOT alone, if you get what i mean.

In my Opinion the "Man from the fog" and the "One who watches" are pretty freaky though the "One Who Watches" gets less scary overtime and the OG "Cave dweller" was a cool concept until a bunch of people started making copies of it. "The man from the fog" being the second closest to the "Cave dweller" and being made by the same developer as the "Cave dweller" they were the best. Herobrine started it all with "From the Fog" coming out on April 19 2023 And the "Cave dweller" on July 11 2023. "From the fog" caused this dweller mess as the cave dweller kind of uses the same type of code as the player has to physically look at the entities for them to do something which is the exact same mechanic for every single dweller on the mods therefore they are exactly the same with different models, sounds, and variations! No matter what any of the devs say they are exactly the same with no different scare factor other then screaming at you and chasing you. Take into consideration that this is my opinion and I am speaking my thought's. . . . Also I can agree on the Goatman being the most annoying. This can be kind of fixed with spawn reduction.

Actually only the ones made by Swalye have the same AI. The ones like the Man from the Fog, the Midnight Lurker, and the One Who Watches have different AI’s. Also FTF Herobrine does do stuff when the player is looking away.

i think part of the problem you are experiencing is that the dweller mobs are meant to be stand alone's and when you add all of them to your world it becomes too overwhelming

The Reason i think these horror mods dont work is because 1 cave sounds are jarring because there rare and unexpected and are completely random unlike the dwellers which are extremely predictable 2 All of these mods are basically a reskin and carbon copy of one another 3 the entitys all look the same all of them are long and tall with sharp teeth or a disturbing face 4 minecraft is just really not that scary in the older versions sure it was creepy but now its not.

Do everyone a favor and dont play with the goat man or any made made by flame. They are actually the fucking worst. The one who keeps playing shitty mp3s is the goatman. Also some creepier mods, from the fog is pretty interesting and the recent versions of the one who watches is good. Had a world where I never really encountered him but he scared the shit out of me finally and he wasnt even doing anything to me 💀. Also SOMA mentioned 🔥.

Bro says horror minecraft isnt scary. Proceeds to not add any atmospheric mods that actually make it scary. Obviously the dwellers aren't scary by themselves, but if everything is dark and foggy, or youre in a cave and the noises they make echo and reverb off the walls, that shit is spooky. At some point you'd expect them to know because of the repetitiveness and predictability lmao.
