make sure to use a coat hanger wire or bungee cord to hold caliper out of the way, don't let weight of the caliper hang on the rubber brake hose.

Does the sensor tell you which set to change? My gf light just popped, i haven't inspected which set needs changing yet.

Hello Public! Use your common sense and BEFORE you take the caliper off, use a long screwdriver to pry the pad against the caliper piston and force it back into its cylinder. Simpler, faster and much more effective than any other method.

Thanks for the comment, its truly appreciated. It's hard to say what could be worn out on your car, soft pedal concerns could be a handful of different issues, uneven pad wear could be something not related. I would start with the calipers.... make sure the pistons aren't seized or seizing and check the slide pins for grease . Basically make sure everything at the caliper that should move freely does. Then work you way up if theirs still issues.

I'm actually working on a detailed brake video, it should be uploaded soon. So if you have any specific questions I can try to address it in this video.

when would you replace the sensor without the pads? won’t that cause the new sensor to trip again because the pad is too thin?

Great video, I’ve done brake jobs before but not on my 2015 Mini Paceman yet, but the time is coming. Quick question, is it a must to change the sensor, or can it be reused? I don’t want to have to undo the wheel well shroud. Also, in the past, when pushing the caliper piston back in, I’d open the bleeder valve. Is that still necessary with Mini? Thank you for posting the video!

I wouldn't touch the bleeder. You can reuse the sensors.

Excellent vid. BTW you don't need to remove both caliper bolts, just the bottom one. Then the caliper will pivot up enough to allow a change. Might be useful also to show how to reset the warning light. E.g. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZaQp6SFbqeFiNE Also on some models this needs to be done with the parking brake off.

good video. did you put any grease on parts to prevent squeaks? do they squeak.
@Donnythelatemodeltech
@Donnythelatemodeltech 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The only part of the brakes I will recommend greasing are the slide pins, I would only use 3m silicone brake parts lube. It will not swell rubber and or cause caliper seizing. Everthing else just clean it with brake clean the best you can. Brake squeak is usually a dirty contaminant problem, dirty rotors, dirty pads , dirty hardware. I see a lot of tech grease the crap out everthing chasing noise....lol to get nowhere ."brand new cars don't have grease anywhere but on the slide pins" hope that helps.
