Can you repurpose the plastic connector on the end of the clutch pipe? Mine has rusted at the slave end and I wanted to splice on some copper pipe - can't seem to find any info on whether it will work. Thanks for your video and your help!

Thanks for the video, Can you please give us the make and part number of the longer shaft slave? It seems a lot of us are having the opposite problem that might be helped with it. Thanks

Here is a link to the slave that I bought: amzn.to/3hclnei (amazon affiliate link)

Interesting, just seen two different slave cylinder numbers one for prefacelift and one for facelift. Not sure what changes maybee the clutch fork? Either way that amazon link has a bogus number

I know this video was done a while ago.. But i don't suppose you know the length difference between the old and new one ?

Ya I went through the process, it's bleed I just don't seem to have enough throw to disengage the clutch. I bought the car with the problem. I can start it in gear and drive it and shift it with a light touch but cant stop and go with it. After I saw your video it made sense but haven't been able to find any different length slave cylinders.

You dont seem to have enough throw to disengage the clutch?? That sounds like bad dialogue from the fast and furious.
@warwickdean3 жыл бұрын
I'm struggling to understand how you couldn't get the slave to fit because of an extra 10mm length or so. With the slave cylinder in situ I can push it in by hand and have more than plenty of clearance so it would have fitted. If it was too long then the problem would have been a clutch which won't engage, I also can't work out why there's two different level lengths either but ghat said the original BMW part number got superseded so I do wonder if the newer item has a longer throw and that's its completely normal. Really strange eh Was the slave cylinder with the shorter throw the original Mini one do you know? Thankyou

My r53 stopped going into gear last night, clutch pedal is solft and I’m hoping this is the problem. The new clutch I put on it only has about 10k miles on it

I called Mini dealer today and they said only 1 size slave cylinder is used for my 2005.. I’m confused because my slave is not providing enough throw to get in gear after new clutch install. Any help guys??

2005 mini cooper S convertible. Had a loss of clutch while driving. I decided to replace the master and slave. I removed the master and I found a small rubber seal in the container I used to catch the fluid when I remove the lines from the master. Im not sure where it is supposed to go. Any way you could help me? I cant seem to find any parts diagrams that indicate where it goes.

Go to my page and find the link to my facebook and send me a picture of it if you can. Can't guarantee I'll know what it is but it's worth a try.

@@aDIYCarGuy I figured out what it was during the day on Monday. It was for the feed line that attached to the master cylinder. To I still can't get the clutch to disengage when I press the pedal. Slave cylinder has no leaks but when the pedal is pressed it doesn't look like it pushed the release fork far enough to disengage the clutch.

@@HarielA44 Might need more bleeding, it's very difficult to bleed this one

Dood I got mine at o’Reillys and it only lasted 3 months. I have to do all of that; all over again. But mine is under the air filter. Thanks for tha vid. Keep it up bro^
@aDIYCarGuy6 жыл бұрын
Thanks and oh man that sucks, was it the FTE brand?
@jeepchievous6 жыл бұрын
Na’ it’s that lifetime o’reillys brand same lifetime brand like AutoZone. I’m probably going to get some other brand to try . I’m not going to get tha same brand. Hey what I did to bleed it I got a lawnmower gas clear hoes bout 3 feet and put it on master so you won’t buy that many brake fluid, then manually keep pumping till all the bubbles are gone. So you only tight once on the nipple. Make sure you rotate and tap tha clutch slave cylinder so you would get all tha bubbles out. Cheers^

Ian I remember I replaced it 5 times the 5th time I bought the original part from mini and it’s been running like a champ . Lol also months later did an engine swap. From 02 to an 05 engine swap out engine mount from passenger side. It was pretty easy. Took me a day to finish.

Hi, when you put the pole in the car overnight, do I leave the Bleed Screw UNSCREWED? (newbie question)? I'm assuming "yes", but just want to make sure.
@aDIYCarGuy6 жыл бұрын
Leave it screwed in so it's pressurized overnight
@dovidfeldman52326 жыл бұрын
Ok, but how does the extra fluid / air get out overnight if the screw is tightened? Again, sorry for the question. My clutch is constantly on the floor, and the car gets stuck in the middle of intersections. I've brought it to two mechanics - both ripped me off totally. Out $1000 so far. I'm going to do the repair myself, and just want to be sure I'm doing it correct. Isn't it true that air (bleeding) cannot occur unless the screw is loose so air can get out?
@aDIYCarGuy6 жыл бұрын
Somehow it helps air work its way up through the master and into the reservoir, it's a bmw procedure I didn't make it up, so I don't really know. It's not the end all be all. I think the important part is bleeding the slave while it's compressed like I show around 3:10

Mine is an 03 and it seems like the shaft is to short. I'm not getting all of my pedal since I put the new one in.
@aDIYCarGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hmm could be the shaft, but also these are reallllllyyy difficult to bleed, did you follow the bleed procedure?

That broken bolt you should have tried blaster spray and heat with vise grips it may have come out,you made your job harder by cutting it off.
@aDIYCarGuy6 жыл бұрын
i hear ya but I didn't want to mess around with it, just cut it off and be done, it was very corroded in there, which is why it broke
@joshmellon3905 жыл бұрын
Lol bud you k ow you can just make a bleeder bottle, right? At least I hope it works the same as your brakes. I'm doi g it today, I'll find out. Btw bottle halfway full of brake fluid, hose through lid into fluid. Hose hooks to bleeder valve.
@aDIYCarGuy5 жыл бұрын
Yep that works great for the brakes. I believe I tried it on this, but I don't remember tbh.

3/16 2 foot length clear hose 20oz soda/pop bottle (label off) drill a hole on the top of bottle big enough for the hose to fit tightly then drill a 1/8 hole to let air out, shove hose to the bottom pour 1/3 full, dot 4 fluid in it and you have a bleeder, worked on my r53.
