Mini Excavator with blown engine - Rescue on Freeway. This video is going to be long on purpose to show you guys how quick we can do these jobs. I get some comments that say "it would be done faster if you didn't record" and this video is to disprove that. First of all, the action cams are mounted on our body so they in no way interfere with the job. Even when we fly the drones, they're already pre-setup before we leave the shop and strategically used when the moment is right. This video has 0 video edits (just audio for the cussing).
This specific job, Alex had to rush since it was blocking the freeway. We got this scheduled with CalTrans to assist with a lane closure at this time, but they weren't able to come after all so a CHP officer helped out. Alex used Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, to knock this one out. From the moment the truck arrived on scene, to when he's back at the yard, all in under an hour. Closer to 45min and that includes setting up and putting away the spreader bars! Also includes the long delay waiting for another company to move their equipment; quite impressive Alex!
Of course you never want to rush for the sake of time, but it's always good to finish promptly while being efficient. The excavator was set onto the customer's flatbed despite being at a weird angle, then after being chained down transported back to their base. Easy quick job, but fun nonetheless.

Watching these Pepe's Towing videos I'm struck by what a difficult job it is. Called out in all sorts of weather freezing cold blistering hot, responding out in the middle of the night, working with heavy chains etc. I don't know how these guys have time for family life. Very impressive people.

Oh man... That grinding transmission sound when engaging gears makes me cringed. Flooring the clutch for 3 seconds or so (clutch brake) before engaging the gears will preserve those gears big time! Awesome recovery Spittin' Alex!

As an equipment owner, one of my biggest worries is what happens if my skid steer or mini ex breaks down in a customers back yard in the bottom of a pool. A rotator or cranes is probably the only way out. Good work

I was going to diss the person who called in this recovery since the track hoe/mini excavator obviously wasn't "stuck", but I know how to read the "More" section of a video and learned the equipment had a blown engine which prevented it from extracting itself. Otherwise, relatively quick and easy recovery except for the third-party delays. 👍
