They are actually really hard to remove without a mess because a lot of the three ounce tubes don’t have a pull tab but a solid aluminum so that’s why people punch holes in them instead .
@galenhaugh3158 Жыл бұрын
You didn't show pulling out the old grease tube.

I got a old riding mower that bought a few years ago. Thought maybe I need to start putting grease in the fittings on the wheels. But your video simplified it. I like those flexible lines. I may get one for my gun.

To avoid excessive air in the tube and the need to bleed this air out, just fill the void in the grease cartridge with grease from another source. Also, if you're having trouble taking the old cartridge out because it's stuck in the metal tube, take a small steak knife, stick it between the metal tube and the old cartridge, and then twist the knife till it bends and/or cuts the cartridge inward. Do this all the way around the cartridge. Then get a longer steak knife and stick it down and around the tube and cartridge, breaking any "seal" this old cartridge may have developed. Finally, carefully secure the gun to your workbench with a clamp, careful not to bend the tube by clamping it too tight, then use a pair of vice grips to lock on to the old cartridge to pull the thing out. It's how I did it. Easy-peasy. :p,

How do you remove the old cartridge tube prior to inserting the first one? That’s an important step that you don’t address.

Was about to post this. So much for demonstrating changing a grease gun. Wonder how he managed to only need one grease cartridge all these years... I put mine in my vice, pulled and locked the spring rod, and pried out the old tube with a flathead screwdriver. Ready for the next tube.
@joeblow38234 жыл бұрын
I have the same brand of gun you demonstrated on and the same as the other one you just showed - neither of the plungers will stay pulled out when changing the grease cartridges - not such an issue it the aluminium cap is not punctured but it needs to be punctured and then the grease goes everywhere - these really need an external latch to hold the plunger out - I have made a stopper for the older gun and need to make something for the one you demonstrated on.
@berkeyfamily98283 жыл бұрын
I put mine in a vice so it holds the spring rod from moving. It also holds the gun so I can pry out the old tube with a screw driver.

In the title it says "refill". But what you demonstrated is how to "fill" a new or empty gun. "Refill" means take out a used cartridge then put a new one in. 😉

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I felt like a moron when I realized my snow blower needed to be greased and I have never loaded a mini grease gun. Any recommendations for the best cold weather grease to use? I’m using the Lucas Xtra that you’re showing in vid.

Could you do a quick video of your Lubrimatic gun (the silver one that you said you've had for 10-15 years)? It wouldn't have to be anything fancy; just a quick once-over would be fine. I've got the exact same model, but I simply CANNOT figure out what's wrong with it. It doesn't have any sort of plunger handle on the end of it, and I'm trying to see whether it's missing a part or not. Yours doesn't seem to have a plunger on it either, but I can't tell for sure. After you pick it up and put it back down, it's just sitting there JUST outside the frame, mocking me. :-)

I have the exact same problem with my grease gun. It's a many-decades-old silver-colored unit labeled "Lubrication Equipment Petroleum Chemicals Co." that once belonged to my deceased father. After unscrewing the top and removing the old cartridge, there is a spring loaded plunger underneath but there is no plunger rod on the bottom of the gun for me to pull out, just a rivet-like nub in the center of the bottom, and a small hole near the side of the bottom. The bottom piece appears fused to the main barrel (I cannot unscrew it, even with Vise-Grips). I thought maybe I could push the spring plunger from the inside to lock it, and after loading the cartridge and screwing on the top, perhaps pushing a wire or paper clip into the little hole to release the spring. But I cannot get the spring to lock from the inside. I'm quite puzzled. Any ideas?

@@paulweimer5565 The older type of 3 0z cartridge, grease guns lacking the bottom plunger are loaded WITHOUT removing the top aluminum foil seal. Once the gun is completely back together the pressure from using the grease gun ruptures the aluminum seal allowing the grease to flow into the gun mechanism. There you have it!

The cartridge that came with my PT mini grease gun out of the box new will not fit inside the gun. Glad I watched this because now I can return the gun knowing either the cartridge is defective or the gun is.

Nasty! These grease guns are not really straight forward! I have a small one like that and always seems like it's never doing its job! You have to prime like a mad man to see any grease come out from the grease fitting to know it's done! Also when checking the pressure "because that's normal" You can have a mess on your hands! Not the most efficient tool! Oh, well, better to have things maintained

The rod that you pull out to lock on the end cap mine will not lock.
@GetRealBaby Жыл бұрын
Did you find the "notch" that the rod sets into to lock the plunger rod? It's not easy to see if there's any grease around that bottom area, but it's there.

For those wanting to immediately get to the reason they came here, as the title states, go to 2:07 and save yourself some alternative BS.

And again, the reason people go this video begins at 2:07. Wasting everyone's time with extraneous stuff is a bit thoughtless. Tighten up.

Wanna know why you only have 372 or so subscribers...its because when people search for what your teaching did you ever think theyd be doing it along with you? Well I was and it is important to poke a hole in the top side because now my guns broken before then 1st use..I got little silver balls when they shouldn't be aka my hand. Bad teacher dont quit your day job

Maybe since you are such an expert you'll develop the cahones to teach us everything you can and I'll just bet you don't achieve perfection. The thing is when you have a problem with the teaching, it's not necessary to be sarcastic, just point out your concern respectively. Maybe we need to set up a go fund me for your pitiful situation having a broken grease gun.
