Mini Harley Davidson Panhead Engine (Sounds Like the Real Thing)

I set up and test run this miniature Harley-Davidson panhead engine, I handmade a custom set of tuned exhaust headers, I design them a certain way to see if I could get that very well known Harley-Davidson engine sound.. and to my surprise it came out absolutely amazing.
this thing sounds so similar to a real engine just scaled down.
this is a nearly exact scale replica of a Harley Davidson panhead engine it is very very impressive.

well when you think of it, Harleys use engines smaller than a Honda civic. for engines like this, the tune, intake, cam, crank, and configuration matter more than the actual size, while an American v8 makes its sound from displacement and overlapping exhaust in large pipes. its its truly a work of art, to make good sounding engines

@@FranBunnyFFXII that's because the first time it was running on gas and in the middle of the video I had to swap it over to nitromethane with glow plugs. But I cut the clips together because I needed to but they do sound a little bit different running on gas and nitro methane. Good ears though.

The name Pan Head doesn’t come from the idea of a kitchen pan, it’s from a soldiers mess tin which looked similar. Remember they were built just after the 2nd world war and the mess tin in which a soldier shaved, washed and cooked was a very fresh memory.

That little engine had grown men drueling and wishing and hoping that Santa Claus or someone that really loves us will bring us one if we be good as if we were 5 again lol because I love all of these little scaled down engines but when I was a kid always buying model kits at Walmart because Walmart was way better back then but don't look for a model there today because they aren't there anymore but anyway every time I would build one I would think to myself, if I had a little bitty Ford flathead V8 that really runs on gas to put in my lil 58 f100 or any model that I would build I would always think about a many engine with all the exact parts as the normal ones it would be so cool and why doesn't anyone do this and I always wished that I had the skills and funds to make them but what I'm not really sure on is when did they start making them and were they around during those times already and myself not having any way of knowing if they were are not but FF to I'll say maybe 12 years ago I guess a friend at work showed me some videos on KZbin and one video just blew my ass away, it was an exact replica of a little bitty running small block Chevy 350 and I have never wanted something else so bad in my life and still the same today but that little Harley engine had me drueling too but not like the little 350 before I leave this world I have to own one I have to

I try to keep talking in my videos to a minimum but I did want to explain that we had given a link on my channel to allow people to download the app before it was actually fully released, and a few people have bad reviews even though I wasn't a finished app yet, but the main complaint was there weren't enough stores, now I believe we have 2,000 stores in there and more everyday

@@WarpedPerception I think that the way that you mentioned the app in this video was very organic & well placed. You are fortunate to have a platform to spread the word, & it would be foolish not to use it. So I hope that people understand that. Besides it sounds like a program designed to actually enrich people's lives & add convenience. At least you're not plugging some game loaded with ads. So hopefully this takes off and the fans of your channel take over with more positive reviews & constructive ones if needed. Cheers

Yeah I've had this engine lying around since November of last year, I had one of the very first prototypes but I was so sick over the last few months I never did the video. This one detail is what everybody else missed on KZbin, and that one reason is also why I still did the video Even though I sat on it so long. Also ideally you need to do some frequency tuning, but I'm not super familiar with tuning exhaust systems... Mercedes is, they are known for making music with their exhausts.

@@WarpedPerception It is far too small. Why don't you build a L A R G E R version of the Pan Head? Three times the usual cubic inches is a bit more impressive than a miniature engine. Just saying. Another option would be to stop buying Harley's and buy a quality bike that's actually worth the money. Harley Davidson is a perfect example of blind loyalty to a brand just because, they're just way too much money for a sub par product. Why would Harley invest in producing a better product when people are still lining up with a fist full of cash?

They don't fire on the same "cycle." When the rear cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke (firing) the front cylinder is approaching TDC on the exhaust stroke . Due to the 45 degree bank angle and 720 degrees making two complete revolutions that leaves 315 degrees between one firing event and 405 to the next. That's what gives the "potato potato" sound
@rosiehawtrey
@rosiehawtrey Жыл бұрын
On each power stroke the engine puts power into the inertia flywheel. The flywheel is heavy and maintains its movement pulling the engine into next firing stroke - this engine would never run without it because the of the time between firings. A 6 cylinder modern engine like my vitesse 2.0 can have a small flywheel because of the number of firings is enough alone to keep the engine spinning. The big old agricultural engines do have a flywheel with multiple cylinders not because of firing order but because of low speed, a Fairbanks-Morse 32E engine might idle at 75-100rpm, the Vitesse/Herald engine idles at 750.

Just a little FYI for those out there that are fans of miniature engines. The heating and cooling properties are not a linear relationship. It’s actually pretty complex set of engineering calculations. I only say this so you understand an air cooled engine like this could have massive heat dissipation issues. It could burn up in seconds. The oil cooling and lubrication has the same problem, it doesn’t scale in a linear fashion either. Even on something that started as a reliable large engine design may only last you a few hours in a scaled version.
@voornaam3191
@voornaam3191 Жыл бұрын
That's why moped engines are impossible. They don't exist. Mopeds ride on pure magic. Everybody needs at least 10 inch diameter pistons. Not because of the valve size and the amount of fuel getting burned, no, because of the non-linear relations involved. Large is far easier. Nano scale is extremely complicated. There's a Nano Harley, but nobody sees it. You need a microscope and the thing gets lost in no time. And the cooling issues, off Corse. How complicated this world is. Pfew!
