@wampler pedals - thinking about swapping out my Blues driver (phat modded) for this. There seems to be not enough transistor based overdrive options in this realm (but what do I know?) I know there are a couple blues driver clones but I would love something in a small foot print that isn’t moer. Something about the touch sensitivity- I’ve tried so many other drives and the original blues driver circuit, while not perfect, makes me perform way better. My dream is for either a mini take on a blues driver that really ups the game or a vertical blues driver with an added transistor boost. For now I’m looking into the plexi mini- gonna run that at low gain 18 volts.

@kevinjohnbetts4 жыл бұрын
Not that I've tested them but do you mean the old mains powered Plexitone, the later battery powered one or the newest one with the Rangemaster boost switch on it? I've heard demos of them all but the new Plexitone sounded incredible. A bit 'old school' for some I suppose though.
@kevinjohnbetts4 жыл бұрын
On the topic of the Keeley El Rey Dorado I've been chatting a bit with Robert about building another Univibe based workstation. He's covered two of the classic users with the Monterey (Hendrix) and the Dark Side (Gilmour) but the Univibe plus El Rey Dorado would give him the triumvirate by giving us the Trower sound in a box. I can live in hope can't I. Still, that's not helping you is it. My opinion is that if space is an issue then the Wampler Mini is your pedal of choice. If you want the modern(-ish) classic rock sound then the Plexidrive Deluxe is the one but if you're more into the late 60s/early 70s tone then the new Carl Martin Plexitone seems to recreate that sound perfectly.

@@kevinjohnbetts if I go plexitone either the small gold one or the new with added rangemaster, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it for the new one or not
@kevinjohnbetts4 жыл бұрын
@@EricBourassa I think the new version is perfect if you're running the Plexi side with stacks (pun intended) of gain. If you're just looking to add a little Plexi colour to your tone then the small gold one should be adequate. When I owned a Victory V40 I used a Xotic SL-Drive for classic rock tone and then drove it with JRAD Archer. For a dep gig I played 'Sweet Child Of Mine' with that rig and got pretty close to the 'Slash' tone. I did also drive it with a tubescreamer clone and got some great sounds. Lately I've been messing around with heavily overdriven tones on my Victory RD-1 and a Rangemaster (actually a Catalinbread Naga Viper) is delivering the goods. Whatever you choose should sound good but the way you want to use it will dictate which one that is. 🙂

It does not sound exactly like my JMP 50 amp build, but it definitely sounds closer to a Marshall that the Fender amp did to begin with (I think it would sound even closer with the amp running into Celestion speakers in a Marshall style 4x12 or 2x12 open cab). I am trying to think of a way my nephew can get his Twin Reverb to sound more like classic Marshall crunch that he needs for playing some stuff. He is at uni right now, so can't afford amps, but can afford pedals. I am not sure what would work with a Twin, if anything, because those amps are not exactly a neutral clean pedal platform, i.e., scooped and round etc.
