hey. in minute 7:10 i didn't understand how you connected the motor. it's look cool but I can't see.
@daemn428 жыл бұрын
For whatever it's worth, those homemade anti-vibration mounts on the motor work even better if the rubber O-rings (or washers or grommets) are on both sides of the motor cross, instead of just one side. Working from the head of the machine screw downward, my stack is. Metal washer, then rubber washer with a little raised lip around inner hole, then the motor cross, then another rubber washer with the lip, then a thick rubber grommet (grommets are a little squishier than straight O-rings) which rests on the wood motor mount. I also reamed out the holes in the cross a bit to create a gap between them and the bolt, and the lip on those two rubber washers fills that gap so there is no direct metal to metal contact between bolt and cross. I find all these bits at Ace Hardware (washers with lip in hardware section, and grommets in electrical). Just have to be sure to use loctite to keep the bolts in.
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
These are not just rubber washers and long bolts, they are rubber standoffs with a stud coming out of one end, and a threaded metal insert in the other. I was concerned that I'd tear the rubber and lose the motor if catching the prop on landing, but so far they've been great on the Skyhunter. I'm not sure I would use these on a tractor prop setup, but I'm guessing they are a little safer on a pusher. Your setup is definitely more secure though, no question! Here's some similar to what I have (I got these from BEVRC a long time ago) www.canadadrones.com/Anti-Vibration-spacer-M3-x-12mm-p/vib-m3x12-spacer-rubber.htm
@daemn428 жыл бұрын
bonafidepirate Gotcha. I've looked at those, but most of em seemed to be stiffer than what I've got, and I have seen em tear apart (although rare). I'll have to try em on something though.

How did you mount the pan/tilt bracket to the bottom servo? Is it just using one of the servo heads with 4 arms or the circular one and that's sufficient? Or is there some kind of additional supports to keep it from breaking off the servo?
@SladkaPritomnost6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have a question regarding to rubber standoffs at 7:16 did you secure the nuts by something (e.g. with nut locker)? Just asking because to tight them up just by hand (it's rubber right) seems unsafe to me...
@bonafidepirate6 жыл бұрын
The nuts are secured behind the firewall, then the motor mounting plates are mounted using screws that thread into the standoffs. There's a threaded metal insert in the back that they screw into. They tighten up and don't turn when tightening the screws, you're free to tighten them right up as much as you wish. ;) Both the rubber mounts on the Skyhunter and Mini Talon are both still holding just fine, but I did have another set that bought separate from these and installed on my old Skywalker when I replaced it's firewall. Those didn't even last the ground testing before they failed. So I can't really recommend them, unless you're willing to take the risk and check them out thoroughly on the ground before flying with them... lol Several others have been using them with success also. Perhaps I just had some "bad" ones that went on the Skywalker, but all 4 of them failed when I ran the motor up almost immediately, and the motor cam off the plane. Didn't hurt anything, but I'm glad my fingers were not close by, and if it been in the air it could have meant a crash... (or at least a lost plane if I didn't make it home to land)

Hi. No new Mini T videos? How come you are not using a separate BEC for the servos/fvp? Or is that a completely wrong question to be asking?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I should have another video with the Mini Talon tonight/tomorrow. Normally I would use a separate BEC, it's the ideal thing to do for reliability. I chose to use the internal one this time around just to keep it simple. The only thing powered off it is the servos in the plane and Dragonlink RX. Everything else is powered off the Vector. (The Vector itself, camera, mic, vtx, all get power through the Vector) The Trust ESC has a switching internal BEC which is generally safe to use. I will be replacing it with a Castle Creations ICE 50A ESC too for the higher quality/reliability. That one has a switching 5A BEC built in.
@acgkplh8 жыл бұрын
bonafidepirate I look forward to the new video. OK re the BEC. I'll be copying your build so just wanted to be sure. How slow can your mini fly and do you get that scary left roll when you throw her up? Thank you.
@GarbachNL8 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about how you powered your Runcam!. So the Vector can provide enough juice to keep your runcam happy? I also noticed you only had 3 wires coming out the back of your runcam, so I assume the two grounds are connected and you removed one? I like the cleanlyness of that setup a lot! I have most parts ready and will attempt to duplicate your set up with regards to the pan/tilt unit and runcam use! Loved it!
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
Yes that is right, the Vector seems to have no problem running the camera. I have it supplying 5V. Also, yes on the wiring. The two grounds are soldered to the same pin, so I just removed one. I had opened the connector up and resoldered the wires anyway, so they came out the other side of the plug. The housing will snap on either way. All you need is power, ground, and video signal.

Another will done video as normal for you. Enjoyed the Talon series as I have almost completed mine with ET Victor and EZUHF Sunny Sky 2216/1250 4S 8x6 or 9x6. Now I am perplexed about the CG. It seems that in reading the post on RCGroups it ranges from 55mm to 67mm while the instructions call for 50mm??? Seems the higher numbers would be tail heavy (=crash) Wonder if you would share your CG is as yours seems to handle and launch with ease.?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I don't recall the measurement from the leading edge, but I do know that I have mine right on the main spar, centered on it. That's pretty much where the little CG decals are on mine too. I find it flies pretty good with it there, but I have never tried it farther forward or back from there to compare... lol

What is the best tape to use to cover the TX cable on the wing, or do you fill the crevice with Epoxy?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I have a roll of white packing tape from Tape Brothers, the same stuff we use for covering foamboard when building planes with it. I find that it sticks very well to the foam, and is plenty good for covering wires and things like that. I have some Scotch Tough Tape, fiberglass reinforced tape that I use for things like the tail skid where it needs to be more durable. It doesn't stick as well to the foam though.

Hello ;) can you show somehow how did you manage put inside batery strap? I'm using velcro... Pain in the butt...thanks
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I cut two slots in the bottom of the fuselage, slightly farther apart than the width of my battery. I glued two carbon strips in, one at the edge of each slot (on the inside edges toward the center of the fuse) so when I run the strap through the slots and around the battery inside, they tighten around those carbon strips which spreads the load into the fuselage.

Hey , just a one question , how about Eagle tree vector CG placement , on manual there is stated that CG on Eagle tree vector is on ''Tm" marking so on mini talon cg is around 55mm from Leading edge , and that box obstruct to place Vector on that meassured spot? is that placement ok by you?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I don't know exactly how close it falls, but I know it's not super critical either. The Vector will work fine anywhere within a few inches of the CG (probably more). My CG is on the center of the large spar through the wing, so the "TM" mark on the Vector is sitting about an inch behind that.

Yeah the pan servo centers like any other servo. It's the best servo I've found for pan by a long shot. I just wish there was a smaller/lighter version of it... lol I agree the tilt is a little jerky, but it works. I like being able to see straight down without any of the plane in view. I may work on the linkage for the tilt servo later and see if I can tighten it up a bit. The servo itself is not bad at all, it's just there's a bit of free play in the linkage.

That was an Awesome Vid. I really like the overview of the build. I use the vector, and Dragon link as well. What caused the ESC to heat. It wasn't big enough. Do you run everything off the one battery., or do you use a second one for the video?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I run everything off one battery. That ESC must have a problem, it should have been fine. The max current the motor pulls on the ground or in the air is around 23 amps. The ESC was rated for 30A continuous. After that flight I ran the motor on the ground a bit and the ESC was getting hot fast. I guess it's finally dying, it's an old one that I've used in a few planes before... lol I've got two flights on it with the 45A Trust ESC, and the motor and ESC are both barely warm after the flight. A number of people are running 30A ESCs without issue on the forums.

+Bobuilt This one has a 400mw 1280/1258 vtx from RMRC. The sound is not real clean with this particular one though, so I may replace it with a spare 800 soon. This 400 was my spare that I put aside when I had audio problems on a different plane.
@evertonms20247 жыл бұрын
bonafidepirate How you put your vtx ? Vtx is glued inside wing without heatsink ?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's flush mounted in the wing with one side exposed to airflow. I cut out a little pocket just deep enough for the transmitter, then stick it in with foam tape. It's a snug fit in the pocket too. I haven't had one come loose yet, or run hot in the air. Of course they will get hot if you run them too long on the ground without airflow though.

They were some rubber isolators sold at BEVRC years ago. I've used these on a couple of planes with success, but BEVRC has been closed down for a while now. I tried similar ones from some quad stores but they're not as durable, one of them even let go and the motor came off my Skywaker when running it up on the ground. I'd say it dangerous to use them... lol I've left the old stronger ones on but I would be very cautious of using new ones unless safely tested for durability first.

Do you launch your Talon with the vector in 2D Hold? wondering if the FC has an auto take off?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
Hally FPV There is no auto launch, but I do launch in 2D mode, no hold. With hold, it will try not to climb. Instead I use just 2D with a small amount of up elevator mix on a switch. I can launch hands off this way.
@HallyFPV8 жыл бұрын
Yeah i have just finished my Mini Talon and possibly looking to replace parts with a Vector for the reason you said above, an easy self launch. So in regards to launch when you put it in 2D mode what is this helping with? Is it just keeping it straight? Thanks for the feedback.
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
Yep, 2D without hold just levels the plane. Adding a bit of up elevator just holds the nose a bit higher than level for a nice climbout. 2D with hold will attempt to hold a heading and altitude as well.

Brave going out that far and low on a maiden lol. What are you using for a video receiver antenna (and where I can get one)?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I use two receivers, using the Eagle Eyes for diversity. One with a 8db patch antenna, and one with a cheap little Yagi I've been trying out, and like. I don't need two receivers though, and flew with just the patch antenna for years. I honestly think either antenna will serve you well, it's hard to see any difference in the two, and the diversity hardly ever favors one over the other. Here's the patch - www.dpcav.com/xcart/1280MHz-Patch-Antenna-8dBi-Custom-Tuned.html and here's the yagi - www.wa5vjb.com/products2.html You will need your own cable to solder on the yagi, and you can also get the patch cheaper and trim the elements inside yourself to better tune it for 1258/1280. Here's some info on that - www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1400185

Nice choice of plane m8, yet to start building mine...I also have the (expensive) 50A Hobbywing ESC too for mine, maybe I should test it.?.suprised really they are Heli ESCs?..Pleased you used the compact single Camera setup, did you tape over the Cameras USB plug?..Dont know about your Futaba TX but on the Taranis you can set a servo slow function, maybe you could smooth up that little digital tilt servo with it..?..Or use a smoother analogue servo maybe..? The 90 deg lookdown is great thats exactly how it should be IMO.....Nice job....:)

I can only slow the throttle channel with the 10C... One day I'll jump ship and get a Taranis... lol I've been using Hobbywing ESCs for a while and never had a problem with one until now. Even this one has been in a couple of planes before and worked fine. I guess maybe it's just finally dying off... lol The Trust that I put in it as a temp fix is working well. I would just leave it, but it's a PITA to program it and I have not idea how it's set up right now. I will probably put the ICE in it when I get that one. I have the USB Castle Link for it. Having the extra logging won't hurt anything either.

You could drop in a servo slow PCB, like they used to have on retract sequencers?...Yes, its overkill using this Hobbywing Platinum 50A ESC as the little Leopard Hobby motor is only the LC2835 - 1038kv....I will be using an 8 x 6 Master Prop....They are really nice quality though, the finish on mine is first class and its smooth running with a nice Prop hub driver...An 8 inch prop is the right choice for this bird IMO....yours is doing 45mph on about 5 amps...that's good. A bigger prop would slow it down and make the launch hazardous IMO....Look forward to seeing more footage, our weather has turned real cold Today, still went for a fly though....LOL.....Ball link on that downward Pan link will fix it maybe..?

No I don't have one of those. I saw Bruce posted a video today, but haven't checked it out yet.

you're not using an actual airspeed sensor?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
No not on this one, just GPS ground speed. I may add the airspeed sensor at some point later on, but for now this is fine.

bonafidepirate I see, by the way, eagle tree air speed sensor is i2c type. Will my pixhawk's i2c airspeed sensor be compatible with the eagletree? Planning to install a vector too :)
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I can't help there, sorry! The Vector is the only one I've ever used an airspeed sensor with. I have one in my Skyhunter.

I already bought an air speed sensor for the vector :) hope to set this up properly on my mini talon too

What vtx antanna are you using?
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
It's a center fed dipole from FPVPro. I forgot to show that in the video. It's mounted through the wing just like the UHF one is. The vTX is also out in the wing a few inches from the antenna.

bonafidepirate have you ever thought about pitlab fpv system at all or is eagle tree vector your go to ap seems like from what I've been reading pitlab seems more locked in then etv but it just looks so messy compared to etv
@bonafidepirate8 жыл бұрын
I've looked at the Pitlab a bit, and it seems like an awesome system that's very capable and has some unique features. I like the Vector since it's so simple to install, and the software makes it relatively easy to configure. Before the Vector, my first choice was the RVOSD, which I still like and fly one in my Skywalker. Once I tried the Vector I liked it better though. Honestly I would like the try the Pitlab, but I'm not really up to learning all the ins and outs of yet another system when the ones I have are working so well. Maybe some time down the road if I get bored and want something new I'll get one. ;)

Do you find that the VTX on the wing screws up the roll balance? Do you have a counter weight on the opp wing?

Totally Awesome video!

Your ESC is overheating because you got it inside the fuselage at the back where there is no ventilation. Place the ESC outside or at least fit it so that the heat-sink is exposed to the outside via a hole in the fuselage.
@bonafidepirate5 жыл бұрын
I just had a run of bad luck with the ESCs I ran in this one. There's plenty of air flow through the fuselage and the ESC comes down cool after a flight. I ended up running a Turnigy Trust 45A ESC in there for many flights.

bonafidepirate I see. and do you have any up trim with it
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
No, control surfaces are all neutral when trimmed for level flight.
