Hey there, pros and cons for both setups. Video reception was better for me when the antenna was mounted in the wing. Prob will shift it back out there sometime. Always best to get the vid antenna far away from the lipo as possible and also good to add more separation to the gps too which is my main issue with it inside fuselage. The UHF antenna placement doesnt make any difference to me. I still get the same kind of range now with it in the fuselage. Same power mode. Yes the lower part of the antenna does get a little damage. I believe the ground station plays a much more important role in healthy uhf rssi. Good antennas, good receiver, antenna tracking and as much elevation as possible makes the difference.

Yes I have some experience but never with V tale planes, only wings.. I'm using a Nano Talon as a guinea pig (because they are similar) and I'm going to try those PIDs in the MT... As soon as I have it well tuned, I,ll share .

Bloody hell that is sooo goood! Im building MT too and I hope I will get working DIY gimbal (Storm32) together with FatShark Trinity headtracker module. There is not much info on such a setup but headtracker output can be transmitted on selected channels via crossfire (big diversity reciever) and then fed via PWM into the Storm32 gimbal controller... If I will manage to put everything together it will be AWESOME!

Nice gimbal setup SD. I've got one of them on the shelf. In a previous video you said you are out off channels for tilt, with the Arduino and the taranis you could do some tricky mixing in the taranis and decode it in the Arduino to have everything on one channel.

Hi Mr Covert, how would you go about this? I cant think how to independently control pan/tilt/mode using one channel only. Is there some way to trick it with the ppm stream or something?

Using the programming power of the Taranis you send two different values on a channel, one after the other on a mode change, when switch is toggled send mode value then continue sending tilt value. The position is offset above the highest mode value and the arduino decides if it’s tilt position or mode, makes the needed adjustments to the tilt value output to bring it into range if needed. You will loose resolution but not much. Can get even more complex if needed.

Yes, I've used a 9x6 before. You don't want to run it full throttle for too long but for cruising it will be just fine

Hi William, im not sure. I would like to find another one myself. The only other gimbal that ive seen work good on a fixed wing is the Feiyu Texh Mini 3D Pro for the standard sized gopro but that too has been discontinued.

Yes, on my first mini talon the hinges ripped. But it happens to most EPO planes, easy to fix using Uhu Por and Blenderm

Nothing special, just taranis + EzUHF jr module + 4ch receiver. Antennas are 3D printed qczek moxon (can find on thingiverse) and a homemade dipole. The crucial part is the antennas, dont need fancy gear like crossfire or dragonlink just good antennas makes the difference.

I have reduced the quite a bit since my first MT, i like small movements so I can concentrate on shooting smooth footage. I've heard about some dud EzUHF modules but most of the issues come from the stock antennas which are best used for stirring paint. Upgrade the antennas and EzUHF will do 40km no problems.

Prob not worth the effort. There are many pilots who fly much heavier MT's than mine. Some people load them up with a shitload of 18650's for long range flights. I certainly don't think my plane feels overloaded at 1700g, it launches easy

With the Arduino code, any reason to not continue to the next location with the shortest rotation without doing a reset ? Is the location error with a timed movement not accurate enough and it stacks the errors with extra movements ?

Mr covert good question. If no reset is used you would have to calculate a panning time based on old vs new position for every change. If any of the gimbal presets are moved around, modified or deleted you would have to calculate everything all over again. This particular gimbal is a bit limited in the panning control as it locks onto a compass heading rather than relative to the gimbal itself

Awsome, how do you find the ezuhf I have the module and a receiver but haven’t put it in my fx61 yet, at the moment I am still using 5.8 ghz for video I just got a 1.3ghz receiver from rmrc which I use for my buggy for fpv Any suggestion on a cheap 1.3ghz ground station set up and antennas

I have had good experiences with EzUHF. We can run multiple units in a formation without any failsafes. Just need to upgrade the antennas - a moxon and a simple dipole work a treat. For a cheap 1.3 ground station I would use the RMRC VRX with the saw filter and then Skew Planar on both ends or go linear and use an inverted vee with a biquad on a swivel mounted tripod. But do yourself a favour and get a vector + eagle eyes + pan n tilt + yagi. No need for diversity

No build vid for the antenna. They are not too difficult to build and you don't need to worry too much about precise measurements. 5.8 + uhf works just fine. Let me know how you go

It all comes down to the antennas.... With the stock antennas anywhere from 0km to 10km, with something like a diamond srh7771 and a dipole about 20-30km, but for long range a Yagi and dipole will get you 50km+. EzUHF never had a great reputation but if you upgrade the antennas it works so much better, I even think it's better than dragon link
