Installing a set of Camso 4S1 Tracks on my 2002 Suzuki Carry DA52T. I am not a mechanic and I know nothing about tracks or installing them. Some days I have a hard time keeping my shoes tied so a lot of this has been from watching other videos, reading the manuals and trial and error. I’m just getting a feel for the truck now so hopefully in the near future there will be an overview of how the truck handles the tracks. I’m excited for this ice fishing rig!

Ambition Strikes made tracks for their Jeep Cherokee. They started with 4 used snowmobile track belts and designed the frames to fit them. They have a series of design and build videos and just recently offered the plans for sale for $99. Estimated build cost is $1500 per unit if you buy all new parts and materials. They've gotten quite a lot of use out of "Snowverlander" due to the heavy snow northern Idaho has been getting this winter.

Looking at it, it almost seems like you do want that pressure from the rear stabilizer pulling the track forward (pulling the rear of the track down). It'd keep the rear end pitched up instead of diving nose down. If it were to gain air, you want the track to land at the back, not dive into the snow. But a super cool project. That'd be a fun little toy to have!
@ianstraker3060
@ianstraker3060 Жыл бұрын
Geez! If I grab air in that unit I’m in all kinds of trouble! Haha. In the camso adjustments manual there is a set amount of preload that they want on those springs and if I would have jacked the truck to make them fit the adjustability would be gone. In hindsight it’s probably not a huge deal but neither was pulling the bracket to get it modified.

Just out of curiosity... did you try installing any of the 4 corners without the 1" spacers? Or did you need them just to convert the lug pattern? I have a 2002 HiJet DeckVan and am trying to avoid pushing the tracks out wider as it will affect my rear sliding doors on both sides.

I needed the spacers to change the lug pattern over. I do believe it would have needed them for the tracks to clear the front struts though. I can’t remember offhand exactly how much space there was though.

I don’t know how important the anti-rotation really is. I watch two other channels that have tracks on Jeep Cherokee’s ether one run them and have even said they have no problems. One is an off road recovery vehicle with a V8 and pulls other very heavy trucks out of deep snow. Great video though. I’m looking into getting a set for my Polaris. Down the line would like to use them on. Suzuki Jimny or Mitsubishi mini Pajero.

They do take some power to turn. I ran it in 4 low all last winter and you need to keep the revs up. There was always a gear you could use just don’t expect to go fast. Some ice crusted snow last year was tough to run through and took a lot of power and patience. (Reving out in 3rd gear but then bogging down when you shift up to 4th.) That being said, I can’t wait to get them back on and get out fishing this winter. It goes everywhere. Nothing like getting out on the lake where no one is able to drive to with wheels.

Speaking as someone that used to work fitting various kits on vehicles, I can't help but wonder if you realised that if you had made no modifications to that first bracket that it would have worked perfectly fine as it was meant to. I literally had a shudder go down my spine when you said you were going to cut it and weld an inch on. Because you did that is the very reason why you had to modify the bottom of the bracket.

It is roughly a 1/3 gear reduction with the 16 tooth sprocket that they recommend for these trucks. I think I found it on a Four Sons Off-road video where they explain it. The speedo is definitely showing a higher speed than actual but I haven’t actually compared GPS speed to it yet.
