I'm about to paint my own one of these - he's a been in a box in my various garages for over 30 years. Great vid, as i want to do bad moons too.

@@JonnyWatsonGaming Very much so, nearly done all my basing now. One question though, how'd you attach him to the base? Mine is superglued onto the original square base, but one foot has already come loose. If I keep holding the base to paint him he's going to fall off and break, so im having to hold the body. Not ideal...

Nice!! Great paint job dude. I don’t play 40k but man I love those retro models. I recently restored/kitbashed a space marine dreadnought rescued from a toy market.

Yeah you defo don’t have to play 40k to appreciate these old models. They have sooo much character. Ahh I love the old space marine dreadnaught. How did you convert him?

love it, I am just putting two of my old ork dreadnoughts together, got white dwarf 100 infront of me for inspiration, I love how everyone seem to put the arms in different places, IO went with one claw high and one low, it looks cool whatever though, I love the names, the big one was the super-attack onslaughter dreadnought, the little one was the killer dreadnought, its as cool as the imperial ones being Chuck, Eddie and Fury.

I'm going to give the greenstuff world paint striper a go. It says it's good for metal and plastic minis, and from what I've seen it seems to be ok.

OMG, that looks amazing. Got to be honest. You blew my mind. The fact you sprayed the model black and then went straight on with yellow???? I always thought you needed to use a white undercoat for yellow? Mind...blown!!!

Hahaha that’s the power of Averland Sunset 😀 The original GW model would have been painted over a white primer however but for me a white primer creates it’s own problems. That’s the the kind words 😀❤️

If u want to get better at filling gaps ditch the green stuff and use milliput. When mixed with cheap nasty plastercine it’s far superior. cut both parts of the milliput and an equal size part of plastercine, u will then have 1/3 of each and to mix together. to apply use same method as before, but use a wet cotton bud to remove any excess. when primed it will be invisible unlike green stuff most of the time. It’s less work and blends way better. Green stuff is great for sculpting but crap for filling.
@JonnyWatsonGaming Жыл бұрын
Wow thank you for this! I did not know this trick!
@Bodkin_Ye_Pointy Жыл бұрын
I know, I'm a year late. But hey, I'm the only who is probably interested in what I want to say and I didn't find this video before now. Just with the green stuff, I was in two minds about the torso but definitely think applying the green stuff to the joints of the arms was a mistake. In the torso, the sections could have been meant to turn to allow the dread to rotate and check its flanks. In the arms they were definitely intended to move. So by filling in the cracks with green stuff you are removing the impression of a functional joint for one that is immobile. Bear in mind that this is Ork tech' so the construction is not going to look super fine and slick. Da arm goes on and da shoota/klaw fits on da end.
@JonnyWatsonGaming Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a good point and something to bear in mind next time.
@Bodkin_Ye_Pointy Жыл бұрын
Observation on your commentary on pin washes. They are certainly not quicker that the method you just used. They require more control over specific areas in which you don't want the wash to spread out and consequently take more control and time to complete.
@JonnyWatsonGaming Жыл бұрын
Yes I would agree with this to be fair 😀
