minimalism shouldn't be a competition at all because that's the thing minimalists escaped from at first when they don't want to be hoarders anymore. We escape from this "i've more shirts than you"-competition and it's nearly the same thing when you start "i-own-less-stuff-than-you"-discussions. you are not free at all when you still compare yourself to others and only change the direction.

You're so right and explain it so well! It's a lifestyle change and takes time :)

i would say its a journey rather than a one time stop as years go by your habits start to change and then you allow yourself to let go

I Love that you're showing a beginning...so inspirational! Aggravates me that all you see is people who are already there. First time I've seen someone showing "as you go". & that's one thing that freezes me and keeps me from starting....overwhelming just to start for me!! Thank you!! Much love

It's so much fun watching your vegan and minimalism- videos because you are kind of giving a more approachable perspective on the subject!

First, I appreciate you doing these process videos vs just showing the end result and talking about what you've done over the past year(s). My decluttering process started a few years ago and you'll find yourself revisiting your items and continuing to pare down as you reap the benefits of simplifying. I used to fill a long shelf weekly with items to donate and now I just have a fraction of that leaving my house, but it still feels good. It also shows that I'm now ruthless with what I bring into our home. It saves money, space and energy to buy less stuff that doesn't have lasting value. Secondly, I don't know if it was this video or another, but I love how you mentioned being on this path at this stage in your life. I'm a mom and trust me that the sooner you start, the better. It'll affect your purchasing decisions including what size housing you find yourself content it.

Great progress. I find when I reduce my possessions slowly, I can keep that amount and the. Reduce more again later. If I get rid of a large amount at a time, I can't maintain and then start accumulating again. I think weight loss is similar. Slow and steady is best.
@MadeleineOlivia8 жыл бұрын
Very true! I have compared minimalism to weight loss before also as everyone is on a journey and it takes time, it doesn't just happen overnight!

I've found that Minimalism isn't about having as little as possible and having a black & white aesthetic. It can be, but it's more about decluttering your life and being free of all of the 'stuff' and material goods we have around us cluttering our homes and our minds. I've been learning so much from minimalist youtubers and it's been great finding your channel as you're doing what I've been dong too! Yay for UK youtubers!

Thanks. I wouldn't worry about I've have at least halved my wardrobe and sold my old electronics which before starting a more minimalist lifestyle wouldn't have happened. I know people who purged everything but what they wore for a week and end up either re-buying it or getting donated items from friends because they find they have no coat or enough trousers etc. Definitely not the way to go unless very confident you will still have what you need by the end of the process. I find by reducing from a maximalist lifestyle you can find out what you do prefer. Having too much makes it very difficult to know straight away what you do like, need even want or just what you are like at work and elsewhere.

Have you thought about looking into the KonMari method of folding? It is great for socks, underwear, t-shirts & trousers. You can fit much more in, it is neater (no blocked drawers), and you can see at a glance what you have and pick out what to wear. A few good people for folding videos are Marie Kondo herself, GYST (Get Your Shit Together), Lavandaire and YoungMum (?) YoungMom(?) - I can't remember the spelling for her.

Thank you for the recommendations! I really want to buy her book as I am doing all of this off of my own general knowledge of watching other people live minimal lives. It's deffo the next stage of my journey to learn about tidying and organising in a better way

I've been really enjoying watching your minimalism videos tonight. ^_^ I've been in the process of editing my possessions down to those which have a meaningful place in my life. It's even been helpful when my boyfriend has come along and dug a bunch of stuff out of my donate pile saying, "What are you DOING? How can you get rid of this -- it's still perfectly fine and you work with this kind of product in your artwork!" Normally this is the exactly opposite of helpful with decluttering and minimising the "meh" out of life, but I've been able to laugh in response, let him take the things he wants for his projects, and continue on confident that I know what is best for me, and what I need in my life at this point.
@MadeleineOlivia8 жыл бұрын
You resisted temptation! I have had to go through clothes again for the second time when I was passing them onto my sister, and had to say no when she said 'Are you sure you want to get rid of this, this is so cool!' It is hard but shows you've changed your outlook when you resist taking them back.

Hi, firstly you’re absolutely stunning, defiantly a mix of Anne Hathaway and Lilly Collins in my eyes haha. I’m only 14 and I’ve wanted to become a minimalist for about a year now and just got my first job as well. I earn a decent amount of money for my age anyways and has been especially hard for me not to buy things and don’t depend on my mum to spend extra amounts of money on me for thing that I want not need. I was just wondering if you have any tips for that, keep doing what your doing and I love your videos - xo Lucy

I like to think I'm editing my items to live a more simple life. Minimalist is a label. I don't like labels. The esthetic of minimalism is something i am very drawn to but doesn't have to be black and white.
@MadeleineOlivia8 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right, it is just a label and there are so many different ways in which people can be 'minimalist' as it applies to so many different areas of your life! I try and look at it as just a good influence on my habits.
