Consider adding jars of water to your fridge. The air exchange when you open and close a half empty fridge makes it run more.

I loved the tour, your space is beautiful and also importantly for me, I love how the video itself was simple, minimal and to the point. It’s hard to find videos esp tours that aren’t painfully long! Also, I did end up making the Norwegian cake you posted on another video. The recipe made two cakes, (I used small square Pyrex dishes I had) and they turned out wonderfully. I gave one to my neighbor, and my partner got the other for Vday. He loved it! We have been trying to cut sugar and it was nice because you couldn’t tell it was processed sugar free. The frosting was particularly amazing. And, I make the breakfast with quinoa and lentils and cacao often. It’s a bit of a staple now! So simple, healthy and delicious. Thank you so much for sharing your lifestyle with us.💛

Thank you so much for the kitchen tour! I am so impressed with how your kitchen functions with minimal belongings. I love Swedish cloths and use them all the time. I usually put the used ones in the dishwasher when I run the dishwasher then let them air dry. On a side note, I made your porridge recipe with the millet, quinoa and red lentils. I made it once with cocoa powder and another time with chopped up apple and cinnamon. I love it!

Thank you for commenting 😍 the Swedish cloths are a game changer. I also use them to clean windows and our bathroom! (Different ones though) That’s so exciting to hear! I’m always a bit nervous when someone tries a recipe so I’m so happy to hear you liked it!!!

Thank you for this, it was inspiring and helpful! I want to challenge you and ask you about the things that makes the most messy feeling in my kitchen, and to hear how you deal with them: 1. The tools that can't be dishwashed, and ever-drying on the counter in our very active kitchen. 2. The things we use to clean the dishes and kitchen: rubber gloves, a rag, a kitchen towel, a sponge. They always need to be outside to get dry without getting moldy, so they are not very aesthetic. 3. Machines which are heavy and we use daily: a food processor, a blender, toasters (pressed one and regular one). I find it difficult to store them every time when used so frequently. Besides, we also make very natural food from a scratch, that's why we use the kitchen so much. Would love to hear your ideas or own experience!
@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! That’s such a fun challenge. I also make all food from scratch so we use the kitchen three times a day. So I’ve thought a bit about this 1. Yes, that’s a hard one. I also could imagine if you have children… phew! So many dishes. I would maybe purchase one of those “racks” that look like a oven rack so they’re flat but a grid shape. They can go in the bottom of the sink so at least they can’t be visible when washed. Or buying a nice wooden washing stand and make it part of the decor. Third option is of course to dry after each use but I know myself that can be difficult. 2. Same here. I hang mine in the sink and when I use gloves I put a hook on the door of the cabinet underneath the sink. This way they get enough airflow to dry but aren’t visible. And that made all the difference. 3. Ohh. In my future dream home I am going to build a cabinet simply for my blender. Just to solve this problem! I currently have a blender on the counter and moving them around is just not easy. So if you don’t have a cupoboard with an electrical outlet you could use them in, I’d suggest leave them on the bench but try to make them the decor. So remove everything else and it will be easier to clean and would look like a homely kitchen. Hope this helped! Gave me so much to think about for my future Home 🥰🤞
@oufaze
@oufaze Жыл бұрын
@@SagaJohanna Thank you for your lovely comment and thoughts! I agree that providing a formal place for the drying dishes is still more neat than just placing them on the counter randomly. Maybe I will try to do something like this inside the sink like you suggested. About the gloves it's nice to know they dry well enough in the cabinet. Might try this too. And about the big machines, I agree too. Thanks!

Thanks for the tour of your kitchen. It was interesting. I suppose with the type of food you cook you feel no need for a microwave oven, but I wondered if you had other objections to owning such a thing? I have recently begun to wonder why we own ours and what we use it for! If we were to follow some of the recipes you use for example, we may be better off with a blender of some kind. We have a small kitchen so we have to pick what gadgets we use very carefully. Anyway, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the subject! Thank you in advance.....
@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😍 I am aware that some people are concerned about the radiation of microwaves. I’m also not sure about them but I haven’t found that compelling evidence. However, I prefer less tech in general so not using a microwave feels good. I reheat food in a pot or in the oven, super easy and less messy. Microwaves mainly take up a lot of room I think, and I really don’t like cleaning them! For me a blender is essential to eat healthy because I can make sweet treats 😂
@susanashton6608
@susanashton6608 2 жыл бұрын
@@SagaJohanna Thanks for that. Yes, I am not wild about too much tech either so I want to choose what brings value, rather than acquiring things just because they are there and everyone has them!

I'm no true minimalist, but lately I've become overwhelmed by the sheer volume on kitchen and pantry inventory. Add to that I'm an intermittent faster and really only cook one large meal a day. It's too much to manage now that we are in the empty nest season. But I still like to cook and dream of cooking for my kids as their own families begin to grow. Looking for inspiration.
@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna Жыл бұрын
Yes, the kitchen easily gets messier than other areas too I find. Maybe because we spend so much time in there, but I find that if it's not quite minimal and well-organized I easily end up with appliances, tupperware and bowls all in the wrong cupboards haha. We cook all of our meals from scratch at home, and I think we have almost everything we need. In Sweden we say that when planning for a kitchen it is usually enough to have everything + 2 for when families come over. So if you have 2 kids and let's say 3 grandkids, you could have one plate for each family member plus two. But no more than that! Hopefully that keeps the kitchen a bit easier to manage. :)

Do you eat a lot of carrots and or sweet potatoes? You have a yellowish/orange ish tint to your skin especially around your mouth area which is very indicative of having excess beta-carotene. It’s not harmful though.

You lost me at the no need for kitchen appliances. Some appliances are not a luxury or excessive, we use our electric kettle multiple times a day , my teenagers make toast and I use my food processor to grate cheese or make hummus frequently at least weekly. My kitchen is tidy and minimal even with these appliances.
@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna 2 жыл бұрын
Of course your kitchen could be minimal still. However I choose to minimize electrical equipment since it’s pretty much impossible to recycle and they normally don’t last that long anymore.. it was better before. My grandparents still use their food processor after 40+ years! Personally I toast bread in the oven and boil water on the stove to avoid buying more appliances. :)
