I like the idea of an X-Com style game where you play as the police. Being rewarded for arresting instead of killing, punished for killing unarmed enemies and shooting first, maybe a negotiator skill that let's you talk enemies into surrendering, using detective skills to gain advantages. Lots of good potential there.

@@ShinoSarna It sound insane being able to move 1 unit for turn. Why even having more units, then? Make 1 playable character, and all NPC move in a single npc-turn. Like a turn-based version of super-hot. To balance turns have the pg use "time points" to define the various action cost and how much he can do, like old x-com. As it is now I am afraid it's a late production decision not tested to "pad" the game? Or something like that.

Unpolished and sloppy is right. Two quick errors I noticed: they spelt Ecuador incorrectly on the mission map, and check out the sign on the desk that says “Drug Enforcement Agency”. It should be Administration. Also, “Primo” is Spanish for cousin, so technically they could call Gustavo Gaviria this as he was Escobar’s cousin...but yes, more likely a licensing thing! Another thing I picked up is that the developers obviously translated from Spanish spoken in Spain rather than the Latin American dialect (it is reflected in some of the Street signs in the game that you’d never see in Colombia). (Source: I took a break from Brisbane for a year and moved to Medellín.)

It seems kinda weird at they as developer they didn't really lean into the moral ambiguity of its material; and intern the genre as a whole. Games like Spec-Ops the line, FROSTPUNK and hotline mimai created completing but uncomfortable game play experiences that actually force you to question how banal violence and and how cheap life in theses contexts. A whole game about be brutal jackbooted cops and the dark stuff justified as "the greater good" is brimming with potential.

Halfway thru this I started wondering; what if there was an XCOM style Mass Effect spinoff inspired by the ME3 multiplayer & got rather deep into wishful thinking... Imagine if you would a story running parallel with the original trilogy, you a nameless, faceless commander have been put in charge of a ship that wanders the galaxy recruiting & training Spectre hopefuls from every race (similar level of customizations to XCOM 2), Early missions see you helping colonies with wild animal attacks & random gangs, ending act 1 with a few Geth attacks. Act 2 would see you facing the growing threat of Cerberus. Act 3? Reaper invasion with the final mission seeing your little army of Spectres taking part in ME3's finale on Earth. Sort of an unsung heroes thing with Shepherd taking the spotlight & glory while your team does vital dirty work out of sight. Maybe throughout the game you'd hear of Shep's exploits giving you a sense of timeline... maybe you'd be able to link an old save & hear of YOUR renegade femshep's exploits & feel like you are helping them save the galaxy, while they deal with the big bad threat, you're thinning the hoard, providing a distraction or destabilizing Cerberus' command structure.

I don't see anyone mentioning it and I know this is a year old, but I just wanted to mention that I believe the people behind xcom licenses out their engine to other smaller devs. So I saw at least one other $5 tv show tie in game that used the same exact engine. I think they just put together levels using the toolset provided, do some graphics art to reskin the ui and call it a day. And also probably tweak the gameplay rules, like the one move per turn.

I think my biggest problem was the brain-damaged AI and how stale the game got... Actually, the whole game is my problem. It had so much potential but fucked it up. It had some good parts, but not enough to make me forgive it. I liked how sometimes I could actually control the shooting, but it felt kinda weird, but it didn't do a full-on XCOM where you'd be right in-front of someone and have a 100% chance of hitting, then miss, like I'd have a 98% chance to hit in XCOM 2 and I'd miss the shot 14 times in a row, what the hell XCOM?

A gta esque Narcos game would’ve been preferable. Maybe you can play either Narco or DEA. But they both have drawbacks. DEA can’t kill civilians. Narcos can’t shield civilians. Maybe the narcos are those with Escobar and Gallardo. DEA are those who are against Escobar and/or Gallardo.
