Solatorobo WAS a labor of love. It was a sequel (not plot-wise) to their own Tail Concerto, and it took 10 years for the game to be released (nobody was willing to support it). CyberConnect 2 literally make other games so they can also make stuff like Solatorobo.

It's kind of like if the N64 had followed in the footsteps of the SNES, instead of the real life N64's trajectory. It's a 2D system at its core, even has strict limits on how many polygons it can render, while the N64 is all in on 3D and can't even render sprites. Much like modern graphics APIs, you have to project things as textures on polygons. Fascinating little system.

Dragon Quest IX is like, not only my No. #1 favourite DS game, it's probably my favourite RPG of all time as well, it nails everything that I want from an RPG and then some!

I'm really glad you mentioned Transformers Autobots and Decepticons on your list. Those were some of my favorite games on the DS. I have a lot of fond memories playing them. They really were quite ambitious and well made games, especially considering they were just a movie-tie-in to help sell toys. I honestly thought the story presented in each of them was better than the actually theatrical movie too!

Jack Stiffler probably not since the 3DS emulator Citra isn't very optimized, the ROMs are hard to find and I doubt he's gonna buy all those games AND a capture card for 3DS.

This is just a random suggestion, but you should check out the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games. Explorers of Sky in particular had a really good story (especially for Pokémon) and a very memorable soundtrack. It's definitely up there in my top 10 favourite games. The other games are also really good, but I find EoS to be the best one.

Solatorobo is among the best and most engrossing games on DS, period. Can't really pick between Solatorobo and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective as the game which leaves the sweetest memories.

If you ever get around to doing more, I'd recommend looking into Nanostray 2 and Transformers Prime: The Game's DS port. I admittedly haven't played either, but the first is a Shin'En Multimedia game and pretty much all of them are technical marvels, with Nanostray 2 (and Nanostray 1 for that matter) being no exception, and the second one I've played the Wii U version of, and from the footage I've seen, it's a surprisingly faithful port of the already-surprisingly-good Wii U/Wii/3DS game with surprisingly good graphics (especially notable are the graphical *effects*, such as the motion blur in driving sections, the impact effects in combat, the effect when you're charging a shot, etc. ).

I got it with the DSI one christmas and it was the only game i had for it (until I got pokemon and a few other games) I played it to death and remember getting frustrated at the boss battles! Vicarious Visions is one of the most underappreciated devs out there. Their Tony Hawk DS and GBA games, their Guitar Hero ports, their Crash remakes. They've just done a bunch of stuff better than they'd have to.

God, seeing transformers decepticons brought back a ton of memories. I remember I used to play this game with my brother, and we had this little inside joke because of it where we'd yell "Jerry! That's not a car, Jerry!" Whenever my character would run down the road while in decepticon form. It's nice to see the game appreciated for what it was

I'd like to point out too that ATV Wild Ride got a 3DS remake as well. I just wish they got to port Dementium II. Every last one got the remaster treatment except that game... And it's also really novel yet wacky to even see that some DS games ported to 3DS when it's already backwards compatible lol. Really cool though and the textures being refined whatever extra polish is just really neat. So way to go Renegade Kid.

I know the DS from 2004 was innovative and impressive but what I've seen on your channel...OMFG, some games look like early PlayStation 2 games. Also, Metroid Prime Hunters (showed at E3 2004) is very impressive. I owned the demo version which came with my purchase of the original Nintendo DS. Astonishing!

Sad to say but if you want solatorobo, your going to have to cough up a pretty penny for this one as this usually goes upwards to $300 CIB or $100 loose. Not to mention its important that if you really want it then go for an American copy as it has some of the dlc already installed unlike the European and Japanese versions. And no the dlc can't be reinstalled as the support for it was shut down on the Dsi a very long time ago

decepticons for sure, there's different missions in both games, but autobots is all about defending people, where as decepticons allows you to go all out, and it doesn't feel out of character when you go crazy and start getting your wanted level up.
