So that's how a broaching tool works!!! Thanks for that demo. Congrats on finishing your flatcar. Now are you going to let the wood deck weather naturally ?? Or give it a coat of paint ?? Or maybe go all out and sand then varnish or stain it ??

Glad you found it educational, the broach was a recent addition to the shop and it sure makes keyways easy. I think I'll paint the wood top the same maroon color as my other carts.

Great video! Why did you lock the wheels onto the axles tho? Wouldn‘t it be better to have them rotate independently for driving curves (less friction)?
@Redundant_Communication Жыл бұрын
It's out of habit, built the other carts and the locomotive with wheels fixed to axles, so I did it the same here.

fantastic build, where did you get those wheels from?, they are fantastic, Thoroughly enjoy watching the progress of your railway, Much like my own here in the UK

I've gotten all my wheels from an ebay seller called burnzoil out of California, don't know what he's got listed right now though

@@Redundant_Communication I'll have to give it a look, and see if they'd ship to England, they'd be perfect for my snowplough project

What are you using for suspension springs? How did you calculate the load you were going to carry and how much the rails/cart can take? Thank you
@Redundant_Communication Жыл бұрын
The suspension springs are reused valve springs from a truck engine. No calculations really, I just built it by estimate, looked at other carts & hand-trucks and used the same thickness of beam, axle, etc. That and I don't have a properly sized scale to weigh such things.

@@Redundant_Communication im a mechanic too! I would have done the same thing. Interesting to see the progress. I cant wait for more
