And hey, you know about Minnetonka? The city with 52,000 people?
@jasonmims50573 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it was mentioned but in both cities there's a skyway system that connects all the buildings so you can walk around downtown without going outside. The Minneapolis skyway us more lively than the st paul one.

I moved to MN in 2017 from Texas and I love it here. First lived in Saint Paul, then Minneapolis, then Brooklyn Center and now back in Minneapolis... ironically the same building I lived in back when I lived here before lol. I love both cities but I do wanna buy a home in Saint Paul as I prefer the cozier more down to earth vibe of Saint Paul. Minneapolis does have better lakes and parks though. My favourite park in SP is "Shadow Falls."

Similar story, but different. Grew up here. LIved in WA for 10 years. Moved back. LIved in Richfield, St Louis Park, Lakeville, Eagan and finally bought a house on the East side of St Paul. Is it the nicest neighborhood? No. But it has lots of charm. 107 yr old house on Dayton's Bluff overlooking the airport. Slowly upgrading and personalizing things. Costs $175k, so pretty affordable. I LOVE St Paul. Come check it out!

I sometimes have trouble telling them apart and in 2022 Minneapolis has 443,000 and St. Paul has 311,000
@bemhibbits41572 жыл бұрын
Minneapolis is glass and steel. St Paul is brick and mortar. I lived in WA and really felt like it was similar in some ways. Seattle=Mpls and Tacoma=St Paul

It's the same here in Germany. For example Nuremberg and Fuerth. They will never become one😂
@MarySchumann Жыл бұрын
it's hilarious - someone said the difference is "the people" - I think the difference is about 10 miles and age of the homes. ;)
@bjornbohm4809 Жыл бұрын
@@MarySchumann Yes, it could be 😂 but the rivalry here is so old. It's hard to change. And people like to tease the neighbour. How is it with you? Would it ever become a city? Here, both Nuremberg and Fuerth have their own history and identity. I think it would never be able to become a city. Greetings from Germany

I finally visited the twin cities in January of 2023. It was really awesome. I fell in love with it. And I believe I still want to move there. I won't be doing so till my credit score is better and till I have more money and a license and car.

Why do you show a scene of Portland, Maine (that's Warf Street in the OldPort) at the 1:49 mark when your V.O. describes an urban lifestyle?! 😂

What about job?

Thanks for sharing this video. I got a job offer, at Ann Arbor and Minneapolis. Which one do you think the best to choose? Thanks.
@MarySchumann Жыл бұрын
Now, you know what I am going to say! I have actually lived in Michigan as well though and Ann Arbor is a very cute little town. If you like city life, I do think that MSP has a lot more to offer and you can still get small town life if you like it. The closest city to Ann Arbor is Detroit and that has seen better days unfortunately. I think that if you can, you should visit and spend time driving around looking at each area. However, the most important thing may be the job opportunity, at least for a short while? Are you in academia? If so, congrats on getting TWO offers - I taught at a college in IL for a while, and the thought of trying to get a teaching job again was too much for me. :)
@vlk1 Жыл бұрын
Awesome. I will try to explore both the area. I am not in Academia but I am a researcher and this is kind of a job. If I have to settle down in one place then I have to think again to choose Ann Arbor or Minneapolis. Thank you.

Thank u so much for these informations about taxes and other things 🙂👋🏻, so is it one of the cheapest States for living and studying or naah 😅?
@MarySchumann3 жыл бұрын
probably not one of the cheapest over all - at least not in the metro area. Housing isn't inexpensive here, and I feel like food has a slightly higher price. It depends on what you are comparing it to! I grew up in NE Ohio and it is significantly cheaper there, but at the same time the economy is depressed and the government services that you expect or want aren't as available. The quality of life is high here in MN though - to some degree you get what you pay for. The least expensive places in the US can't afford to pay teachers well, have worse infrastructure, less well funded things like libraries & parks etc.
@sdtho65403 жыл бұрын
@@MarySchumann So the life in MN isn't that cheap and isn't that expensive too! You mean in the middle right?
@ohcanada80842 жыл бұрын
@@sdtho6540 Overall, for the entire state, it depends on where you reside. Plan on living closer to the Twin Cities? You Betcha it’s going to be more money; however, that’s pretty much any large metropolitan area.
