This interview aired in late June 1979 but was filmed in early May of 1979. By the time it was screened however Minnie Riperton was already confined to bed in the final stages of her battle with cancer. If you note during her chat with Mike Douglas, her left arm is immobile and she keeps it stationary due to the effects of her illness. To smile, laugh, make conversation and sing perfectly knowing all the while your body is losing it's fight to a deadly disease and being in great pain. RIP.....

I love Minnie Riperton. She may not have been in a lot of pain. She may have had access to adequate amounts of opioid pain relievers which are very effective and very safe and can usually control the pain without knocking you out. Unfortunately politics and economic warfare and propaganda that creates a climate of fear around opioids, and makes physicians fearful about prescribing them, these days people often do not get adequate pain relief.
@thegoose2724 Жыл бұрын
@@soilmanted It's not that physicians are afraid to prescribe them. It's the government, red-tape and insurance companies that have placed to many restrictions on them being dispensed. Right now you must have basically a terminal disease or end-stage illness before they even consider writing a prescription. I understand and get the reason for the hesitance being the overwhelming misuse of the drugs themselves. However when a person is sick or ill resulting in servere pain they shouldn't have to be in the throws of dying or death to receive opioid drugs. In my honest opinion it is a miscarriage of fiduciary responsibility on behalf of the government and the physician to play Russian roulette with a patients illness. Especially because of the potential for misuse by a select few, which does not determine another individuals level of illness!!!! Out

You see that She cannot move her Right Arm.....and try to hide it as best she can ... she was so in pain at this time and still managed to do live show and interview ... God Bless her

Amazing knowing she was so sick but just a light absolutely gorgeous and seemed very happy am I the only one who noticed she also seemed at peace . I wish she were here tho with her husband and babies but her wings are probably big and beautiful and singing with her beautiful voice . 🥺

Minnie was so very beautiful! It is extremely hard to believe that she had just less than a month to live from the date of this appearance. God rest her beautiful soul!

Minnie's personality was totally captivating. Her humbleness & that sweet lil' midwestern accent. She was so cute.

Somehow this is the first time I've seen her speak. What a lovely (and talented and warm) woman she was. I wish she could have stayed with us, and her family, longer. :'(
