Love the car shot at 4:27 😍 Nice camera, but I prefer, if the camera can be used in both modes, panoramic and normal. A few of my SLRs can do that.

The DX code reading only 100/400 was a cost saving thing. It will only use 1 DX contact to determine film speed which means it doesn't need a computer to even calculate film speed. It was very common on cheaper cameras as a cost saving measure.

Wonderful shots, as always. I didn’t know that about the DX coding, I wonder how it would read the Lomochrome line from Lomography? Guess I’ll be finding out since I have a roll of Lomo purple in mine. It does seem to like color I will say that. Which makes me happy since shoot color more than bw film.

Thanks - It will most likely read it as ISO 100. I just shot some Fuji 200 (rebranded Kodak Gold) in this camera in Chicago last weekend. I really liked the results.

Pseudo-panorama is actually a pretty cool format to shoot, especially on Medium Format. I shoot some on my RB67 with a few soft modifications and it's put you in a pretty weird spot yet and intriguing one. For me, it's way to fun to shoot Landscape, especially like me who accidently shoot on redscale with a Motion Picture film...

Another really interesting video, ive thought about buying one of these cameras for a while as im a sucker for the cropped panorama look and the colour pictures especially you took are very good, but i think the negatives you highlighted outway the positives. I briefly owned a second hand minolta panorama zoom 28mm till it sadly passed away and bought a Pentax zoom 280P as a replacement to solve that panorama itch, its a great all round camera and was originally bought to my attention by none other than yourself in a previous video.

Interesting video, Dave. I often look at those cheapo panoramic cameras and think about getting one. That said I would probably hate the compromise of having to stick to a single ratio for a whole film. I guess that we've all been spoiled with digital cameras and the freedom to change with the push of button. With the price of x-pans you'd have to part with much of your collection 😊Might as well stick with the Minolta and enjoy it.

Lovely shots! Something very atmospheric about a panoramic photo 📸 Just a shame it's just a cut down 35mm standard frame rather than a true panoramic wide frame. I have a couple of compact cameras that have a panoramic mode. My olympus mju zoom 140 has a panoramic function.

Great pano shots, Dave. I think you hit upon the best way to display panoramic photos: wrap them in a black frame. It really enhances the photo and sets a natural boundary around the image. Cute quirky camera! ❤👍🏻

Nice! The xpan series of cameras have a limited lifespan because of them being so electronic heavy which makes it more expensive and harder to repair!

The B&W shots are a tad melancholy with the overcast sky and the grain, but still, great shots! And even though such panoramic 35mm cameras do not use the full 35mm frame, those images are still a little larger than the frames on a 35mm half-frame camera, so the apparent increase in grain isn't quite as much as from a half-frame camera. And besides, how else can you take a good shot of your 7-foot, 3-inch son playing basketball unless you shoot a vertical panoramic shot!

A lot of those point and shoots had fixed ISO’s. Maybe the manufacturers figured the exposure latitude on most consumer film stock would make up for the metering. I think there are a few point and shoots of this era that had panoramic masks that could be opened, so you could shoot full frame or cropped panoramic shots on the same roll with the same camera.

Yes, I’ve got a Stylus Epic DLX and a Nikon LiteTouch that you can switch back and forth between pano and full frame.

I have a point and shoot somewhere that has a slider you slide and it closes up the back into a pano mode just like that but mine allows you to chose either pano mode or standard.. Ill have to dig it out and look it over. I never used it I don't think lol

I’ve got an Olympus and a Nikon that you can switch back and forth too - I like having both options available.

@@theoldcameraguy I found them both are Pentax IQZoom models one is newer model that is a bit smaller and has more sensors on the front of the camera and says MultiAF on it.. I think I shot a roll of black and white in it but have not developed it yet. Ill see how sharp and clean the images are from it and if its any good maybe ill run another roll of film in it but color this time.

Exactly what are the dimensions of the images produced by the Minolta Panoramic camera? Are they 16x36 or 18x36 or 20x36mm?

Thats a pretty wide lens, I think most of the cheapo “wide panoramic” ones are the standard 34mm (ish). You could mask your Reto of Vivitar ultra wide that would be interesting. Just looked it up the sprocket rocket is 30mm. Interesting
