You can strain the fiber from the juice, yes, but that's actually healthy for cleaning out arteries and intestines ~ soluble + insoluble fiber. Also, just straight fruit juice (unless it's blueberry) is high on the glycemic index - spikes glucose similar to sugar and honey.

If you have any kind of medical conditions or if you’re on any medications, do some research first and maybe talk to your doctor. Celery is high in sodium, so might be contraindicated for high blood pressure. Beets are very high in sugar, so diabetics need to be cautious. And as another person mentioned, the high oxalates in spinach (all dark leafy greens, actually) and beets can be problematic for those like myself with history of kidney stones. I absolutely believe in food as medicine, but I also know that just because it’s “natural” doesn’t make it harmless in all cases. Also, if you do pure celery juice, be ready to be near a bathroom. It’s very “cleansing.”

It’s a fantastic juicer and totally worth the $400 price tag (in my opinion). However, if I was in the market for a new juicer, I’d probably go with the Nama J2 because it’s a gravity fed system so you don’t have to push the ingredients down. You just load it up, turn it on and walk away. Plus it looks easier to clean. That will probably be my next juicer. I wish I had a discount code to share for Nama, but I don’t yet 🤷♂️ I’m going to reach out to them about collaborating.

exactly. what would be wrong with using kale instead of spinach? or use kale and a 16th of a pound of spinach?
@calisongbird Жыл бұрын
@@taintmueslix all dark leafy greens are high in oxalates, including kale. For anyone with a history of kidney stones, that can be problematic when consumed frequently.
@MinusTheGym Жыл бұрын
Our bodies naturally produce oxalate oxidase and decarboxylase, both of which are enzymes for metabolizing oxalates. A normal functioning human body has no issues with oxalates. However, some individuals, possibly due to genetic mutations or other factors, don't produce enough of these enzymes and will struggle to metabolize the oxalates leading to kidney stones and other potential problems. So, I think the fear mongering from certain "nutrition experts" on social media has given oxalates a rather undue bad reputation. In reality, in the same way phenylketonurics need to monitor their phenylalanine intake and those with celiac disease need to avoid gluten, certain individuals definitely need to be careful with oxalates, but those cases are few and far between. The vast majority of people have no problem metabolizing oxalates (like myself) and should embrace all the high oxalate foods like dark leafy greens, celery, almonds, beets, etc. because they're extremely healthy for us.

Hi Susan. Yes, the juice recipes in this video are ones I make frequently. Typically I’ll use a smoothie as a meal, because smoothies are blended and include the fiber, so they’re higher in calories and more filling. But I’ll often make a juice and use it as part of a meal.
@namelesstemple6 ай бұрын
What I don't understand is, how is juicing so healthy when it removes all of the fiber from the vegetable? Do you re-add the pulp to the juice?
@UnaNeary6 ай бұрын
I love the juice from fruits and some veg - not keen on the pulp at all. Celery, for example, is full of strings (LOL) and lemons are too bitter to eat on their own. Oranges have lots of pith, carrots are hard to eat raw etc etc.. Juicing is a way of getting lots of vitamins every day. But hey, each to their own. :)
@MinusTheGym6 ай бұрын
Stay tuned. I’ll be making a video about this exact topic. Short answer is: our most ancient hominid ancestors (we shared a common ancestor with chimps and bonobos) did their own manual form of juicing called “wadging,” where they chew a fibrous stem or fruit peel, swallow the juice and spit out the fiber. They’d sometimes get a considerable potion of their daily calories from wadging, up to 20-30% at some times. So consuming juice without the fiber has been a part of our evolution all along. Fiber is good because it adds bulk to your stool and helps build a healthy microbiome, but it’s not essential at every meal. Also, fructose (the main sugar in fruits and veggies) does not require insulin to unlock the cell. It’s metabolized by an enzyme produced by our liver called fructokinase. So you don’t need to worry about insulin spikes or high blood sugar from consuming juice, unless you’re a diabetic consuming loads of fruit juice. For diabetics, I’d recommend sticking to vegetable juice mainly.
