Mio and Okayu discuss similarities and differences in their taste of anime and manga. It's not often you get to see people talk about the differences in what they like within the SMOK group. Expand for translator's notes. 0:05 - In general, I prefer to leave song names in their original Japanese, because it's easier for someone to google search and find the song this way. If I translate to something unofficial, it just gets harder to find and understand. 0:19 - It's moments like these where I question Okayu's idea of what makes something "mature" or "adult-like." She's talked before about how she thinks drinking coffee has a mature vibe to it, and while I get what she means to some extent, I don't really think drinking coffee or having a one-sided love is all that mature or adult like lol. 0:31 - Mio's response here really caught me off guard and made me laugh. It's pretty rare for anyone in hololive to talk on stream about their difference in tastes, especially in the way that Mio just disagreed with Okayu so quickly lol. This is the primary motivation I had to sub this, as I think it's cool to see them talk out their different perspectives and then to talk about what they have in common. But for the record, I'm with Mio on this one. Four people all in unrequited love sounds more like teenage drama (or just rich people drama) than a mature, adult relationship to me. 0:52 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZm6g5dmf7CHrNE If you're curious to know more about Mio's taste in manga, she goes into it in this stream, and it's the one Okayu is referencing. Mio's distaste for unrealistic stuff isn't all encompassing. She's fine with unrealistic stuff like super powered fighting (for example, Hunter x Hunter), but when it comes to romance, she gets irritated seeing things drag on with tons of new problems and slow conflict resolution. She actually points out that love triangles and stuff bog down her enjoyment because she gets frustrated with them, and much prefers when romantic subplots are resolved more quickly, or just aren't the main plot line. Mio likes series where the main focus is about characters pursuing their passions and doing their best to accomplish their dreams. Also, while she's okay with some supernatural violence, realistic violence is a no go for her, especially stuff with delinquents. Though, strangely enough, she seems to like Made in Abyss which has some of the goriest scenes I've ever seen in both manga and anime forms. 1:14 - To continue on about Mio's taste, she has mentioned that she feels like the series she likes is kind of a narrow field. While everyone has their own tastes, sometimes Mio feels bad because there's a lot of stuff that she just doesn't really like that a lot of other people do. That said, I think Mio shouldn't feel bad. Also, her taste in stuff is pretty great, as it includes things like March Comes like a Lion. 2:26 - Mio actually introduced Aggressive Retsuko to Okayu on the day they did this collab, and Okayu got hooked pretty quickly. 3:09 - I didn't want to write out the song name here, just because I want to minimize leaving in Japanese words untranslated when I don't need to put them there, but for anyone curious, the song's name is "Honnou." 3:28 - Just a personal thought, but sometimes I feel like Okayu doesn't think she's girly enough. Which is weird to me, because if you watch her somewhat regularly, it's pretty easy to tell she has a lot of really stereotypically girly moments (and her laugh can get reeeaaally feminine sounding too, especially compared to other hololive members!). No bonus clip this time because I felt like Mio messing with the echo button was kind of like a bonus clip anyway.

Thanks for the exceptional timestamped notes of some detailed thoughts! For all her focus on how she likes things when they feel mature(to her) I wonder, maybe if Okayu sometimes thinks she isn't girly enough, then maybe sometimes she also doesn't think she's adult enough?

Made in Abyss is still more fantastical violence than something that feels real like gang-violence. Okayu always seems to talk about adults in the sense of a board for age-ratings.

I share both Okayu's and Mio's view on romance Manga, it's really interesting to see how it plays out but there's that feeling on it not being possible in real life at all.

Rather than it being unrealistic I'd just find the entire concept thoroughly unenjoyable. I have no idea what Okayu sees in it or why she thinks it's "mature" tbh. Okayu really seems to be the type who thinks if something isnt happy = mature most of the time.

Everyday I like Mio a little more. It's not that complicated one-sided romances are "unrealistic" for me - I just find them incredibly frustrating. Be an adult and communicate like you would in a healthy relationship! Extended misunderstandings aren't romantic, they lead to toxic relationships! It's less "I want realism" and more "I like to be happy". For me a show where no one ends up happy doesn't sound like a good time, life can suck enough as is. XD

in my place here unrequited love drama is overused in teen shows lol

It's interesting how "Aggressive Retsuko" is the Japanese name, while "Aggrestsuko" is what it's called overseas. Titles in Japanese are usually given shorthands so I also find it amusing they both call it "Aggressive Retsuko" Thanks for the subs!

Oh Nodame! I remember watching that and got hooked on the music, I also remembered I got obsessed with piano because of it too. But alas I learned that I can't read music sheets to save my life. lol I'm similar to Mio I don't like shows that super focus on romance but don't mind shows that have romance subplots.
